Drake Sheila F. Drake, 59, of Amarillo died Tuesday, March 28, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Vera Walton officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 Saturday in Boise City Cemetery in Boise City, Okla., with the Rev. Mark Roberts officiating. Local arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Drake was born in Wichita, Kan., to Vinita and George Walton on Sept. 13, 1946. She graduated from high school in Boise City. She married William E. "Gene" Drake on Dec. 10, 1965, in Keyes, Okla. They moved to Amarillo in 1975. Mrs. Drake and her husband were partners in their business, Drake Properties. Last year they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. She was an exceptional wife, mother and grandmother. Her life revolved around the lives of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Jeaneen Phillips and husband Todd of Amarillo; two sons, Erik Drake of Amarillo and Kevin Drake of Round Rock; a brother, Shelby Walton of Amarillo; and six grandchildren. Hughes St. Claudia Sims was born April 17, 1935, in Omaha to Claude and Lanie B. Johnson. She was a resident of Amarillo for more than 50 years. She attended the public schools of Omaha, where she graduated from high school. Claudia was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and North Star-Electra Chapter No. 23, Order of the Eastern Star. She was employed by and retired from Amarillo Independent School District maintenance department after 17 years of service. Survivors include a brother, Zebbie D. He enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Amarillo Air Force Base in the 1950s. He was retired from the Amarillo Helium Plant. He was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He loved fishing, traveling to visit with family and visiting with friends over coffee and doughnuts. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Hinsley; and his mother, Mildred Reid. She married Elgie Hilbert Rudder on Oct. 16, 1937, in Dickens. She was a resident of Clarendon since 1975 before moving to Amarillo last year. She was a homemaker and worked at Bivins Pharmacy in Clarendon. She was an active volunteer for Burton Memorial Library and Donley County Senior Citizens, was a member of the Genealogy Club and a member of First Baptist Church in Clarendon. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 30, 1988; and a sister, Lou Shaffer. Blackburn Jr., 93, of Amarillo died Monday, March 27, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with the Rev. Jeff Conway officiating. Mr. Blackburn was born on April 25, 1912, in Marion, Ala., to Estelle and E.M. Blackburn Sr. He lived in Amarillo since 1919. E.M. married "D. Jo" Bush on June 15, 1935. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2001. He joined the American Business Club in 1931 and held every office in the club, including president in 1940, before his retirement in 1985. He was vice president of the first Junior Chamber of Commerce formed in Amarillo. He was a deacon of First Baptist Church and chairman of the building committee when the Sunday School addition was built. Mr. Blackburn also served on the boards of the Better Business Bureau, the Salvation Army, the Maverick Club, Faith City Mission, Amarillo Country Club and Lake Tanglewood, where he helped organize and raise money for Lake Tanglewood Church. He was instrumental in the organization of the Amarillo Club. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce, serving as president in 1952. He was president of the Amarillo Independent School Board and on the committee that purchased the land for Tascosa High School. He served twice as president of the United Fund. Mr. Blackburn was recognized by the Panhandle Funeral Directors Association with the E.M. Blackburn Pioneer Award. This would have been his 78th year in the funeral business. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She married Heliodoro L. Silva, who preceded her in death in 1968. She was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana since 1975. She had countless friends in Pampa and Mexico. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a son, Jose Angel Silva. Peggy Jean Harding was born Nov. 6, 1925, in Byers to E.P. and Eula Bea Goble Harding. She grew up around Bowie, and graduated from Canyon High School in 1943. Peggy attended West Texas State College and on March 31, 1945, she married Dwayne Roberts in Clovis, N.M. They lived in Fort Chaffee, Ark., prior to moving to Dalhart. Peggy worked at the Dalhart Clinic for Dr. Cunningham for 25 years. An active member of First Presbyterian Church, and elder of the Presbyterian Women's Association, Peggy was also a member of the Busy Mrs. Club and loved to play 42 with the ladies 42 Club. She was also a member of the Twin Mirrors Camping Club and was camp host at Columbine Park, Red River, N.M., for many years. Peggy loved the mountains and enjoyed fishing. Peggy's family will always remember her as the "Heart & Soul of our family" and she will be dearly missed. Donald Monroe Giles, 73, of Colorado Springs, Colo., went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 30, 2006, in Colorado Springs. He was born Oct. 27, 1932, in Amarillo, Texas, to Clarence and Maude Austin Giles. Donald served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps; he also worked as a Civil Service worker at Fort Carson. He has been a resident of Colorado Springs since 1977, having moved from Georgia. He is also a member of American Legion. He married Janet Rice on May 20, 1972, in San Antonio, Texas. Survivors include his wife; his children, Donald M. Giles Jr. and wife Cindy of Seattle, William L. Rick loved in life most his family, friends, hunting, fishing and Dallas sports teams. He was a wonderful father and loving friend and will not be forgotten. Mr. Stone was born April 5, 1936, to Myrtle and Ray Clarence Stone Sr., in Childress, where he was reared and educated. He married Sue Williams in Childress on May 28, 1955. He worked at Waco Meat Service for 20 years, retiring in 1996. In 1999, he and Mrs. Stone moved to Mart. He worked at Ace Hardware in Mart for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Lynn Stone Sr. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Russell Stone and wife Dean of Houston and Randy Stone of Mart; a daughter, Janet Summers and husband Bobby of Mart; a sister, Marilyn Keene and husband Richard of Amarillo; five grandchildren, R.W. and Carolyn Symmonds and Carol Kefauver, all of Houston and Jarad Summers and Landon Summers, both of Mart; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
