She married Edward Arnold Ivey II on Nov. 9, 1957, in Dumas. She was preceded in death by her husband and by a grandson, Justin. Colson Radford Milton "R.M." Colson, 82, of Amarillo died Wednesday, March 29, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Church of Christ at The Colonies with Dick Marcear, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Radford was born on Feb. 14, 1924, in Willow Grove, Tenn. He grew up in Granite, Okla., and later served his country in the Army. He married the love of his life, Margaret Stewart, on Nov. 22, 1947, in Wellington. They lived in Pampa together for 22 years where he worked for Cabot Corp. until his retirement. He really enjoyed farming and ranching, so after his retirement they purchased a farm in Sayre, Okla. He also helped his son on his farm, after moving to Amarillo in 1987. While living in Amarillo, Radford also greeted many people, for 12 years, with a friendly smile at the Wal-Mart on Coulter Street. He attended Church of Christ at The Colonies. Radford loved music and was a very talented musician. He also had a very beautiful voice, although he was bashful about it. He touched the lives of many with his compassionate heart, and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack and George Colson; and a sister, Lou Ann Leckie. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Margaret; a son, Sam Colson and wife Winona of Amarillo; a daughter, Brenda Downs and husband Johnny of Pampa; two sisters, Beula Leckie of Oklahoma City and Hallie Blair of Canton, Conn.; a sister in-law, Beatrice Colson of Granite; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and his poodle, Prissy. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Galaviz was born April 25, 1960, in Amarillo and was raised here. She graduated from Caprock High School in 1978. She worked at Amarillo Mop and Broom for several years. Mrs. Galaviz attended Iglesia Betel House of Prayer. She was a very loving mother, sister and friend, that always went beyond to make everyone happy. She will be missed very much by all who knew her. Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Robert Ziehmer, pastor, officiating. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Ms. Gruver was born Aug. 17, 1959, in Amarillo. The most important things in Shelly's life were her nieces and nephews, her church and her school. Shelly graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in education. She taught at Will Rogers Elementary for 22 years. During her years at Rogers, she helped train many future teachers through student teaching and mentoring programs. Education was very important to her. She was honored as Teacher of the Year for the Rogers campus. She served on the campus site-based decision-making team and as an early literacy trainer. Shelly was active in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program for several years and was honored as Big Sister of the Year. She was an active member of First Christian Church. She served as deaconess and elder. She had been moderator-elect of the board. She was active as a sponsor in local and area youth programs, as well as many other local and area church programs. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and LeEtta Davis Gruver. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia with the Rev. Rob Lindley of First United Methodist Church in Tulia officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Wiman was born Aug. 20, 1922, in Tulia, the youngest son of Milton and Marguerite Wiman. He graduated from Tulia High School and attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock. While in high school and college he played competitive tennis and later served as a Junior Davis Cup tennis coach. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Methodist Church and a leader in service organizations in the Lubbock area. He was employed in life insurance sales and management for many years. Later he worked in men's retail clothing sales and radio advertising. Survivors include a son, Pat Wiman Jr. of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Sheryl Coomer of Healdsburg, Calif.; a grandson, Jeremy Coomer of Albuquerque, N.M.; a great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. ============================================================================== ==== Charles Arden Wood Charles Arden Wood, 90, of Amarillo died Saturday, April 1, 2006. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Savala officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Wood was born April 18, 1915, in Nicholas County, W.Va., to Giles Claborn Wood and Lilly Adkins Wood. He worked as a coal miner. Mr. Wood served as a missionary all over the United States, including six trips to Alaska, where he helped build the Christian radio station, KJNP. Mr. Wood was the last survivor of 13 children. He was preceded in death by two children, Carl Arden Wood and Barbara Robinson. Survivors include his wife, Sybil Wood of Amarillo; a daughter, Gayle Demoss of Ohio; four stepsons, Ralph Savala, Felix Savala, Danny Savala and Jesse Savala, all of Amarillo; two stepdaughters, Toni Huggins and Joanna Huggins; 24 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. ============================================================================== ==== Willie Lee "Dunnie" Thomas Willie Lee "Dunnie" Thomas, 94, of Amarillo died Thursday, March 30, 2006. Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Roy Wheeler officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.. Mrs. Thomas was born Dec. 6, 1911, in Comanche County to Cora Ellen Castlebery Dunlap and Thomas Jefferson Dunlap. When Willie Lee was 2 years old, the family traveled by covered wagon to Fairview, on the south side of Palo Duro Canyon, and later moved to Wayside. At the age of 2 or 3, Willie Lee became sick and it was not until she was 13, after a trip to Kansas City with her mother by train, that she was diagnosed with polio. Willie Lee rode horseback to the one-room school with the help of her brothers and sisters in her younger years. In May 1931, she received her high school diploma from West Texas Teacher's College High School in Canyon. In the fall of 1931, she began attending the Northwest Texas Nurse Training School in Amarillo with financial help (a $50 loan) from the Whittenburg family. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1934. After graduation, she worked as a nurse at Northwest Texas Hospital, as well as working for Dr. Vaughn and helping Dr. George Waddell, who had just started his medical practice across the hall from Dr. Vaughn. On April 21, 1935, Dunnie (nickname for Dunlap) married Richard Ralph "Dick" Thomas in Amarillo. In 1942, Dunnie had an opportunity, with financial help from the Kiwanis Club, to go to Boston for two years where she attended and graduated from Harvard's Physical Therapy School. Beginning in February 1945, Dunnie gave up her professional career as a registered nurse and physical therapist to stay at home with her two children. Dunnie was a charter member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. She taught Sunday school classes for many years as well as spending many summers as the camp nurse at El Porvenir Christian Camp. The family wishes to thank the Juniper-2 staff at Ware Living Center for their love and care of Dunnie these past days, weeks and years. Dunnie was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; three sisters; and husband, Dick Thomas. Mrs. Hardin was born Feb. 22, 1924, to William Hoyle and Ethel Traweek Ellis in Watonga, Okla. She married William Eugene "Billy" Goodman on June 5, 1940, at Sayre, Okla. He preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1988. She married Homer Hardin on Nov. 22, 1990, in Clarendon. She was a resident of Clarendon most of her life. She ran Goodman's Furniture Store with her husband Billy and also worked at The Nook in Clarendon. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Clarendon where she was a Sunday school teacher and record keeper for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Goodman, on Sept. 18, 1988; a daughter, Barbara Jeanne Goodman; two brothers; and a sister. Bettye was an avid bridge player, loved her grandchildren, enjoyed decorating her home and crocheted caps for the Eveline Rivers Project. She was also a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Max and Jon McAfee; and a granddaughter, Jacqueline Ward. He served in the 472nd Military Police at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, with the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He worked as a planner at Pantex and retired in 1997. He moved to Panhandle from Clarksville in 1979. He loved antique cars and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Janie West; and a sister, Janet Schiners. He married Catherine Westhoff on April 17, 1971, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger. They made their home in Houston, where he worked as a funeral director for SCI at Waltrip and Geo. H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Homes. He changed career paths and began working in the automotive finance business with GMAC in 1980. He began working at Primus, a division of Ford Motor Credit, which took him to Kansas City and later to Austin. Hardin ARLINGTON - Monroe L. Hardin, 87, died Thursday, March 30, 2006. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Wade Family Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. Monroe was a farmer's son who grew up in Forestburg, married LaVerne Hardin on July 4, 1942, then was drafted into the U.S. Army on July 24, 1942. Tours of duty were Normandy, Omaha Beach, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. In the European-African-Middle East Theater, he was awarded the Campaign Medal with five Bronze Stars and a Bronze Arrowhead and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a medic among the first wave at Normandy-Omaha Beach on D-Day in World War II. Monroe departed the U.S. Army on Oct. 16, 1945. He returned to Amarillo to wife, 3-year old daughter and unemployment. While in Paris, he noticed the hairdressers were men and thought that would be a good occupation. Monroe enrolled in beauty school (with three other men who were the first ones to attend beauty school in Amarillo) and continued a 40-year hair dressing career. He owned and operated House of Beauty in Amarillo. Monroe endured a major car wreck in 1950, which limited his mobility, but he still enjoyed hobbies of car racing, hunting, fishing and antique car restoration. He moved to Arlington in 1995 to live with his daughter. Monroe began lighter hobbies of making wooden bird, bat, butterfly and squirrel houses and enjoying nature and his three dogs. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne Hardin; brothers, Roy Hardin, Hershell Hardin, Sylvester Hardin, and Pat Hardin; and a sister, Vida Lee Hardin Holt. Survivors include a daughter, Gailon Hardin of Arlington; a brother, Earl Norman Hardin of Arlington; a grandson, Michael O'Connor of Fort Worth; a granddaughter, Carrie O'Connor Ragge of Grapevine; a grandson, Don Gordon Jr. of Arlington; and a great-granddaughter, Stephanie Gordon of Wabash, Ind.
