Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Perry Hunsaker officiating. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Gardner, daughter of William and Anna Crawford, was born March 6, 1911, in Hunt County. She graduated from Celeste High School and received her bachelor of science in education from Southeast Oklahoma State in 1933. She began teaching in Tulia. She married Burlin N. Gardner in 1938. He preceded her in death in 1978. The Gardner family moved to Amarillo in 1942. She taught first grade for many years at Avondale Elementary School. She retired from teaching in 1975. The Gardner family were charter members of St. Paul United Methodist Church. In addition to church work and activities, Mrs. Gardner also was a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa Education Sorority, and a member of the Federated Women's Club and Texas Retired Teachers Association. After retirement, she served as a volunteer at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospital. Survivors include a daughter, Dannye Boyer and husband Charles of Littleton, Colo.; two grandchildren, Carol Cooley and husband Ray of Littleton and Becky Byers and husband Scott of San Antonio; and five great-grandchildren, Megan, Brooke, Kaitlyn, Noah and Madeleine. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. ============================================================================== ===== Otis C. Rhoades Otis C. Rhoades, 76, of Amarillo died Monday, April 3, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Washington Avenue Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Shelburne officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. Otis was born July 20, 1929, in St. Joseph, Mo. He married Benette Banks on Aug. 17, 1956, in Greeley, Colo. He has been active in Washington Avenue Christian Church since 1957. Otis was a member of the Men's Class, served as an elder and was heavily involved in the Music Ministry. Otis was an employee of the Amarillo Independent School District for more than 30 years. He served as a band and orchestra director at numerous elementary and junior high schools. The majority of his career was spent as an elementary school counselor, where his quiet influence encouraged many students. Otis was a past member of the Amarillo Symphony, where he played the french horn. He continued to enjoy and support the symphony until his passing. Otis was a loving husband, dad, and grampa who will be missed by all. Survivors include his wife, Benette of Amarillo; a daughter, Melody Stinsman and husband Lee of Amarillo; a son, Ryan Rhoades and wife Robyn of Levelland; a sister, Shirley Rhoades of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three grandsons, Ben Stinsman, James Stinsman and Michael Rhoades; and a granddaughter, McKenzie Rhoades. ============================================================================== ===== Area Alberto Reyna Barrera HEREFORD - Alberto Reyna Barrera, 58, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, in Amarillo. Mr. Barrera was born Dec. 18, 1947, in Edinburg to Alberto Salazar Barrera and Julia Reyna Barrera. He married Gloria Villareal on May 28, 1967, in Hereford. Survivors include his wife; a son, Ernest Barrera; three daughters, Irene De La Garza, Norma Martinez and Ofelia Barrera, all of Hereford; a sister, Mary Lou Caro of Edinburg; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the 6th & Gaines Church of Christ with Clark Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Mr. Daniel was born Aug. 20, 1932, in Hood County. He grew up and attended schools in Paluxy, in Clovis, N.M., and in Tulia. He served in the National Guard for nine years in Tulia and he also worked for Mid-Plains Rural Telephone Co., Triangle Butane, Young & Ellis for 16 years. Then he owned and operated Bill's Mobile Station, then Bill's Fina Station. After he retired he was a driver for the Panhandle Community Services more than 10 years and also worked for RSVP in Tulia. He was a member of the Tulia American Legion and 6th & Gaines Church of Christ. He married Charlie Mae Johnson on Jan. 31, 1953, in Clovis, and she died Dec. 27, 1996. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Joni and Wes Daniel-Ross of Tulia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kirk and Bonnie Daniel of Tulia and Scott and Kris Daniel of Canyon; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Maryann Daniel of Granbury; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was an avid woodworker.
