Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery with Allen Williamson, chaplain from Park Central, officiating. Memorial services will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the original building of First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Batson officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Andrews was born Sept. 29, 1908, to Athelston and Emily Andrews in Abilene. He died at Ware Care Center on April 4, 2006. He married Mary Mildred Vineyard in 1932 in Amarillo. Mr. Andrews attended Hardin Simmons University. He worked for Borden's Ice Cream, opening all the ice cream stores in Amarillo and the vicinity. He also worked for J.I. Case dealerships in Amarillo and Clovis, N.M. He owned A.T. Machinery in Clovis. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Clovis and currently was a member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo. Mr. Andrews was also a Gideon. He was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Andrews; a brother, Frank Andrews; and a grandson, Lane Huckabay. Survivors include his wife, Mary Mildred Vineyard Andrews of Amarillo; a son, Guy Joe Andrews of Hyde Park, N.Y.; a daughter, Viviene Huckabay of Amarillo; two granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; and a great-great-granddaughter. He served 20 years with the U.S. Navy and worked in security for several local companies. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St., with Supt. Elisha L. Demerson officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Her career included working as a dietician in Louisiana and Illinois; teaching elementary school for East St. Louis (Ill.) Public Schools and Muroc (Calif.) Unified School District, Edwards AFB. Thelma married Forris Edd Crow at Scott AFB, Illinois, and relocated to the Antelope Valley. She was active in church and community affairs. She served as a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church Senior Choir, the Usher Board, and Bertha Brown Missionary Circle. Thelma was a charter member of both the Antelope Valley Juliettes and Epsilon Chi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., the California Retired Teachers Association and Disabled Veterans Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Lubertha Spears; a brother, Charles Joseph; a sister, Pernola; and her stepmother, Mary Locks Spears. She leaves to mourn, her husband of 41 years, Forris E. Crow; two brothers, Andrew S. Georgia St. Mrs. Holley was born Sept. 11, 1940, in Grand Saline to Nathan and Allie Hobbs. She attended nursing school at Amarillo College and retired from Bivins Memorial Nursing Home. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Booker Friends Church. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery in Beaver, Okla., by Johnson's Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker. Dorothy Lockhart was born July 30, 1917, in Patterson, N.M., the fourth of 12 children born to Pearl and Maud Lockhart. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class in Grenville, N.M. Dorothy married Ezra Simpson on Aug. 13, 1936, in Beaver. The celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 2005. They were blessed with two sons, Kenneth and Lynn. Dorothy and her husband moved to Elmwood, Okla., in 1943, where they owned and operated the Elmwood Grocery Store. In 1944 she became the acting postmaster for the Elmwood Post Office. In 1947 she received her permanent appointment as the U.S. Postmaster, a position she held for 38 years, two months and 15 days until her retirement. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care she received from BSA Hospice and Georgia Manor Nursing Home during her battle with Alzheimer's. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ezra; a son, Lynn Simpson; and 10 brothers and sisters. White Sr. QUANAH - Van R. White Sr., 82, of Amarillo, formerly of Quanah, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Quanah Church of Christ with Mike Marsalis of Waynoka, Okla., and Larry DeLong of Quanah officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park by Smith Funeral Home. Mr. White was born July 26, 1923, at the family home in Kirkland to T.A. and Hazel White. He graduated from Quanah High School in 1941 and went to work in the shipyards in Orange as a welder. He joined the Navy in 1942 and served his country for four years. He returned to Quanah in May 1946 and went to work in the family business, Pioneer Welding. In 1952 he began his own business, Van White and Associates, selling oil field and seismograph drilling supplies all over the United States. Mr. White was a faithful member of Quanah Church of Christ, where he taught Bible class for 20 years, served as a deacon and then as an elder for 20 years. He and his wife enjoyed golf, fishing and traveling together for more than 58 years of marriage. They moved from Quanah to Amarillo in 2003, when Mr. White became a resident of Ware Living Center due to illness. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred Black; and a younger brother, Charles White. Survivors include his wife, Aileen, of Amarillo; a son, Van R. White Jr. "Bill" and wife Vickie of Quanah; a daughter, Cathy Reyna and husband Andrew of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Jennifer White of Phoenix, Angie White of Lubbock and Brian Spencer and wife Kristin, Adam Spencer and Chelsea Spencer, all of Amarillo; and two brothers, Clyde White and wife Billie and John White and wife Jan of Quanah. Muriel Aline Horton April 2, 1913 - April 3, 2006 Muriel Aline Horton was called home to her Lord on Monday, April 3, 2006, at 11:45 a.m. at Mansfield Nursing and Re-hab center in Mansfield. She was 93 years, 1 day old. She stayed here with us through her beautiful 93rd birthday party on April 2, 2006, at which her family and friends gathered. The following day she drifted slowly off to sleep while accompanied by her granddaughter, Lisa Anderson, and her great-granddaughter, Julia Anderson. Muriel Hill was born April 2, 1913, at Cobb Hill Crossing on the banks of the Brazos River just West of Mineral Wells. Her grandfather, Cobb Hill, ran the ferry on the Brazos from the 1880s until 1915. She married Raymond Horton in Mineral Wells on March 3. 1929. They farmed at Perrin until moving to Borger in 1942. Raymond "Happy" Horton was a carpenter and Muriel was a famous cook in and around Borger. For more than 37 years you could find her every Wednesday cooking for the Borger Noon Lions Club. They made her an Honorary Lions Club Member. Her cooking and cakes were a local legend and she catered dinners for corporations, weddings and other events in and around Borger for more than 40 years. She was "West Texas Famous" for her Chicken-Fried Steaks and Chocolate and Coconut Creme Pies. After "Happy" retired she managed and cooked at several lodges in the beautiful mountains of Vermejo Ranch, N.M., which was near their cabin in Ute Park, N. M., that was her and Happy's home away from home. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Borger for 53 years and prepared hundreds of banquets for the church. She was selected as "MOTHER OF THE YEAR," in 1984 by Calvary Baptist Church. Her Spiritual gift was serving others. Family and friends were everything to Muriel and she lived for the times when they were together, and was always looking for an opportunity to invite someone to the cabin in Ute Park or join family and friends that made annual treks there. There is no doubt that those annual treks will continue and Muriel will always be there in spirit. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Dexter and Etta Jane Hill of Perrin; five brothers, Mitchell, Finus, Juriel, D.C. and Estes; two sisters, Ruby Dickenson and Leta Lagomarsino; and two great-grandchildren, Angela Hernandez and Austin Phillips. Survivors include her three children. Dorothy was born June 14, 1919, in Cushing, Okla., to Otis James and Lula May Davis Weldon. She married Arthur C. Survivors include two sons, Edward Redd of Independence and Burnett Redd of Black Rock, Ark.; three daughters, Betty Smith of Moline, and Helen Scroggins and Peggy Cariker, both of Marysville, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, April 6, 2006 Jo Alice Ellett CAMERON - Jo Alice Ellett, 71, died Sunday, March 26, 2006, in Austin. Services were at 11 a.m. March 31 in the Oak Hill Cemetery Pavilion with the Rev. Don Legge officiating, and Judge Robert Stem speaking. Arrangements were by Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron. Mrs. Ellett was born Sept. 11, 1934, in Amarillo to Josephine and Windy Morris. She graduated from Gulf Park High School in Gulfport, Miss., and later from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She and her husband, Bob, lived in Frankfurt, Germany, from 1954 to 1958 during his service in the U.S. Army. Afterward they moved to Cameron, where they made their home for 45 years. Jo Alice was an artist, especially noted for her creative jewelry design. She and her husband were known for their generous hospitality, entertaining many friends in their home and at their mountain cabin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. "Bob" Ellett, who died Dec. 3, 2005. Survivors include a son, Marc Ellett of Cameron; a grandson, Micah Ellett of Lubbock; a sister and husband, Susie and John Chambers of Midland; two nieces, Lisa Salerno of Midland and Claire Chambers of Kerrville; an aunt and husband, Alice and Howard Federer of Amarillo; and cousins, Denny Fahrenthold of La Grange, Joe Wheeler of Austin, Mary Berry of Canyon, Clark Federer of Chicago and Mary Floye Federer of Houston.
