Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in 6th Street Church of Christ in Friona with Leon Talley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Friona Cemetery by Blackwell Funeral Home. He was born Nov. 17, 1961, in Friona to Eugene and Patsy Reed Bandy. He resided at the State School in Lubbock since 1969. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bud and Juanita Reed, Wayne and Viola Maciolek and Fred and Stella Bandy; and a niece, Jami Kyle Bandy. She married James Hagemann on Sept. 2, 1995, in Pampa. She worked for Visiting Angels as a home health provider for the past two years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a member of the Light House Ladies Sunday School Class. She was also a counselor for Divorce Care for Kids at the church. She was very devoted to her family, friends and church. She attended schools in Laredo, graduating from Martin High School in 1954. She married Alfredo "Freddie" Barrera Sr. on July 27, 1958, in Laredo. She attended South Plains College, then graduated from West Texas State University in 1975, where she was on the President's List and Dean's List and graduated with honors. She began her teaching career as a bilingual teacher at Shirley Elementary, then at Tierra Blanca Elementary then finally at Stanton Learning Center until her retirement from the school system in 2004. She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Carmen Barrera and Eric Barrera; and two grandchildren, Amanda Castro and Victoria Pena. One of 11 children, Neva was born Oct. 30, 1913, to William H. and Pearl Griffin Arterburn in Brazos. Neva was a graduate of Tulia High School. She married Dawson Jackson on Feb. 26, 1938, in Tulia. Neva was longtime Deputy County Clerk for Swisher County until retirement and also worked in the Sheriff's Department as a clerk. Upon retirement Neva and Dawson lived several years in Corpus Christi and then in Amarillo. She moved to McLean in 2000. Neva is a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Tulia. She was preceded in death by her husband in March 1998. Survivors include a son, Wm. Box 45, Tell, TX 79259. ============================================================================== ===== Edith Lillian Smith Womble SPEARMAN - Edith Lillian Smith Womble, 88, died Thursday, April 6, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church in Morse with Jerry Womble, pastor of Church of God (Seventh Day) in Stinnett, officiating. Burial will be in Lieb Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. She was born Oct. 29, 1917, on the Jeff Seitz farm near Mobeetie in Gray County. She attended schools in Mobeetie, Grandview-Hopkins and Stinnett before graduating from Panhandle High School in 1936, where she was a member of the state championship basketball team her senior year. Edith married A.C. "Kid" Womble on Oct. 23, 1937, in Panhandle. They began their married life on a farm west of Pringle, worked on the family farm near Nara Visa, N.M., for a period of time, then lived and farmed near Pringle. In 1948 they bought a farm near Holly, Colo., where they lived until 1952, when they moved to Morse. The couple farmed in Hutchinson County until Kid's death in 1967. At that time Edith entered licensed vocational nurse training with Hansford County Hospital District, completing the course in 1968. She was then employed as a nurse at Hansford Hospital until she retired in 1992. Edith will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and helpmate. She was an inspiration to her community, as well as her co-workers at Hansford Hospital. Her advice and counsel were often sought by her extended family as well as fellow citizens. Edith freely gave her time and energy to others; most recently the beneficiaries of her caregiving were those associated with Hansford Hospice. One of Edith's cherished memories was working hand in hand with her husband and children in their farming and cattle-raising operations. Kid and Edith taught that hard work is a joy and blessing, and they taught this lesson through energetic example - an example they learned from their parents, Texas Panhandle pioneers. Edith was a quiet and effective witness of Christianity, and when her time on Earth ended she gladly graduated to her Heavenly rewards. Mrs. Womble was a charter member of Hansford Hospice and very active in the program for a number of years, as well as a member of First Baptist Church in Spearman, a life member of Morse PTA and a member of Grand Chapter of Texas Order of the Eastern Star for 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, A.B. and Mattie Lou Webster Smith; and two brothers, Orville Smith and Newell Smith. "Bill" Tarwater Jr. William B. "Bill" Tarwater Jr., 83, of Amarillo died Wednesday, April 5, 2006. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Field officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Bill was born Nov. 24, 1922, in Childress. The family lived in Estelline. In 1930, the family moved to Amarillo. Bill graduated from Amarillo High School in 1941. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was in combat for 36 months in the Northern Solomons and in the Philippines. He was awarded two Bronze stars and various campaign ribbons. After being discharged from the Army in January 1946, he returned to Amarillo. He was in the auto sales business where he retired as president and partner of Amarillo Imports, Mercedes/Volvo Dealership in 1980. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting and playing Texas Hold 'Em Poker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Bartles Tarwater in January 1995. Survivors include two sons, Michael Wafford Tarwater and William B. Tarwater III, both of Amarillo; a niece, Elaine Brown of Amarillo; a nephew, Jack Davis of Anaheim, Calif.; and a brother, Wesley Leroy Vinson of Portland, Ore. Private burial will be in Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Don King was born March 14, 1927, in Dallas. He graduated from Stinnett High School in 1944, and served his country in the Navy. He married his high school sweetheart and lifelong love, Ann B. Claybrook, in 1946. Ann and Don were blessed in celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on March 31 of this year. The couple moved to Amarillo in 1954. Don retired as vice president of Ivan Dement after 35 years with the company and then worked as a consultant for DePauw Fly Ash until 1999. Don and Ann were members of St. Stephen United Methodist Church. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Don is survived by his wife, Ann; a son, Jim King and wife Karen of Bronxville, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Lily Claybrook King, a senior at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania; a sister, Shirlee Heard of Lubbock; a sister-in-law, Jackie King of Amarillo; and his nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St. Neldehn "Nanny" Ross was born July 29, 1921, in Vernon to Jack and Ora Mae Ellis. She was a "True Texas Legend" among cowboys and those who wear handmade boots. She was simply known as "Mrs. Ross" to cowboys far and wide. She married Charlie Ross in 1937. The following Monday, she went to work with him and her father-in-law, D.V. Ross, began teaching her to make boots. She became one of the best boot makers in the world and continued making boots for 65 years. The tradition is carried on today by her sons. She was a "True Texas Legend" and a "World Class Mom and Nanny." She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie; a grandson, Brittain Dehn Bryant; and a sister, Betty Harrison. She graduated as an LVN in 1981 and worked in nursing until she retired in May 2001. She was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness in 1969. Wanda was preceded in death by her father, Cecil Cook, in 1989; her mother, Marion Stover in 2003; and a grandson, Jacob Luna on Feb. 11, 2006. Survivors include her husband, Marvin Stephens; four sons, Joseph Luna and wife Sonja of Borger, Celestino Luna and wife Jana, Rickey Luna and wife Sara and Greg Luna and wife Crystal, all of Amarillo; two daughters, Andrea and Jack Johnson of Liberal, Kan., Katie and Nick Lee of Big Spring; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; brothers, Cecil D. Mrs. Rhonda Moon Dees succumbed to metastatic breast cancer, after a long period of illness, in her home April 5, 2006. Rhonda had an insatiable passion for sports, books, gardening, sewing and watercolor painting. She also possessed a great love and understanding of animals, particularly horses and dogs, and the love that each one gives back. Rhonda was a 1979 graduated of Methodist College, earning a bachelor of science degree with cum laude honors. Rhonda was past chairperson of the Fayetteville Academy board of trustees. She was also a member of the LaFayette Garden Club and the local Book Nuts Book Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pat Eugene and Ruby Lee Moon.
