Mr. Hewitt was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Roswell, N.M., to E.C. Hewitt Sr. and Carrie Hewitt. He graduated from Hereford High School in 1939 and attended West Texas State Teachers College. He farmed southeast of Hereford for 50 years and ran the skating rink in Hereford for 28 years. He married Novella Urban on Jan. 18, 1944, in Clovis, N.M. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Cole Hewitt; his parents; three brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lynda Duncan and husband, Phil, of Amarillo; a brother, L.C. She had worked for Delgado Junior College for more than 45 years as an accountant before retiring. She had lived in Metairie before moving to Amarillo seven months ago. She was an Episcopalian. Mrs. Graves was born Sept. 17, 1953, in Canyon and was raised in Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1971. Mrs. Graves married Oscar Graves on Nov. 11, 1977. She worked at Red Lobster. She was a very loving person and loved her family deeply. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Tommie Caskey, and a brother, Paul Caskey. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery by Bailey-Ware Funeral Home. Mr. Gillispie was born May 6, 1926, in Shamrock to Thomas Jefferson Gillispie and Bessie Edith Gillispie. He met and married Hazel Sanderson on July 11, 1943, in Shamrock. They were married for 62 years. Mr. Gillispie bred and raised horses all his life. He also showed and raced horses. He was a strong, Christian man who was saved shortly after he married. He was a member of Church of God in Shamrock, but recently was attending Arena of Life Cowboy Church in McLean. He was a wonderful, kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He had a large family, whom he loved very much and to whom he was very special. He was a very wise and well-respected horse person, whom everyone loved very much. He always had a smile on his face to encourage and uplift everyone. He felt all his friends were his family, too. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jerry Billingsley and husband, Bill, of McLean; a son, Leon Gillispie and wife, Debby, of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Pam Wilde, Billie Billingsley, Deana Sparks, Bryan Gillispie and Lisa Dietz; seven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Moon of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews. She grew up and attended schools there. She graduated from Silverton High School in 1954. She attended Clarendon Junior College for two years before transferring to West Texas State College and graduated in 1958 with a degree in education. She taught in Pampa for two years before returning to Silverton, where she taught for eight years. She married William Earl Martin in 1961. He passed away in 1979. They moved to Tulia in 1965, where she worked for Caprock Home Health Care for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she took care of the nursery for more than 20 years. Kendrick, 84, died Friday, April 7, 2006. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in KilpatrickÕs Rose-Neath Funeral Home with Andy Addison of Leesville officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Dumas Cemetery in Dumas, Texas. Mr. Kendrick, a former resident of Dumas, died on April 7 at his home on Toledo Bend Lake in Louisiana. Mr. Kendrick was born May 13, 1921, in Rochelle to Henry Wesley Kendrick and Martha Amanda Kendrick. He moved to the Texas Panhandle in the late 1930s and was employed for Continental Carbon at its plant located between Dumas and Sunray. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army from 1942 to 1945. During that time, he was involved in the construction of the Alcan Highway between the continental U.S. and Alaska. He later served in the Third Army in Europe as a mechanic/truck driver under Gen. George Patton. After the war, he returned to Dumas. In August 1946, he married the former Edith Wood. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in 2005. Mr. Kendrick retired in 1985 after several years as an independent truck operator, when he and his wife moved to Toledo Bend Reservoir so he could enjoy fishing and other outdoors activities.
