Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St., with Dr. Jim Smith, senior pastor of St. Stephen United Methodist Church, officiating. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum. Mrs. Lakner was born Dec. 28, 1919, in Simpson, Colo., and grew up on a ranch. She married Frank Lakner in 1940. After following Frank around the country during World War II and spending some time in Colorado, she and her family moved to the Texas Panhandle in 1954 near Dumas, where the family lived until 1967. She and the family moved to Amarillo in 1967 and became an early member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lakner enjoyed playing bridge, volunteering at St. Stephen and in her early life loved playing basketball. Dorothy remained an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Houston Astros baseball team when she moved to Houston in 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Lakner; brothers, Lester Davidson, Walter Davidson, Charles Davidson and Theodore Davidson; and sisters, Ollie Rae and Juanita Grimsley. Survivors include a son, Randy Lakner of Houston; a daughter, Connie Taylor of San Antonio; grandchildren, Andrew Taylor, Jordan Lakner and Sophie Lakner; and a sister, Rachael Will of Pueblo, Colo. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Meals on Wheels of Amarillo, Salvation Army or St. Stephen United Methodist Church. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Edward Eugene Bawcom Edward Eugene Bawcom, 70, of Amarillo died Wednesday, April 12, 2006. He attended Ranger Junior College, Sul Ross University and West Texas State University. He gave 25 years of service to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch as a coach, teacher and administrator. Mr. Bawcom was a member of First Baptist Church and was an avid golfer. His biggest passion was his grandchildren and all of their activities. He married Melba "Chis" Chism on Aug. 22, 1957, in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife, Chis; a son, Butch Bawcom and wife Vickie of Midland; a daughter, Sheri Collins and husband Tom of Waxahachie; grandchildren, Tye Bawcom, Logan Bawcom, Boomer Collins and Bridgett Collins; two brothers, Leon Bawcom of Bryan and Leamon Bawcom and wife Nell of Wellington; and a sister, Patsy Dodge and husband John of Lebanon, Mo. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Essie Kennett was born May 29, 1910, in Coleman to William and Minnie Brewer. She worked for Sears, was an accomplished artist, a Sunday school teacher and a homemaker. She married Claude Kennett on Nov. 28, 1927. She was a member of First Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Bob Kennett; and three brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Janie Weatherly and husband Kenneth of Amarillo; a daughter-in-law, Jean Kennett of Amarillo; a sister, June Nevill of Tahoka; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Lolley was born Nov. 11, 1925, in Salina, Kan., to Fern and Leon Northern. She married Robert W. "Bob" Lolley on Dec. 20, 1957. Bob preceded Nadine in death in 2003, and the two were married for 46 years to the day. Bob and Nadine moved to Amarillo in 1958. Together they owned and Nadine operated Lolley's Ornamental Iron. Nadine loved music and could play several instruments including the piano, organ, kettle drums and xylophone. She loved politics and was very active in the Democratic Party. She was active in the Potter County Democratic Women's Club, serving as president. She worked for years as an election judge. Nadine served on the Church Service Committee at Grace Lutheran Church before joining Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Palo Duro Nursing Home in Claude for their loving care of Nadine for the past four years. Survivors include three sons, C.W. Palmer, died Thursday, April 13, 2006. She was 88. Mrs. Palmer was born in Amarillo, where she lived most of her life. She married Richard D. Palmer in 1941. She attended Amarillo High School, Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Amarillo College. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Junior League of Amarillo, Women's Club, Palo Duro Club and was associated with various community programs over the years. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Richard D. Palmer Jr. of Denver and Dr. Michael R. Palmer of Boulder, Colo.; and four grandchildren. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Scott Thompson was born June 25, 1962, in College Station to Altus and Bill Thompson. He graduated from Caprock High School and Amarillo College. He was in the first graduating class of radiation therapy in Amarillo, and went on to instruct several different classes. He worked at Harrington Cancer Center and served as the Director of Oncology Services at College Station Cancer Center. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Hufhines was born Aug. 26, 1942, in Duncan, Okla. She moved with her family to Weinert and attended Weinert public schools through 1959. She married Garry Richard Hufhines of Amarillo on April 24, 1959, in Wichita Falls. They spent the first few years of marriage in Jayton. In May 1962 the family moved to Dimmitt, where they have resided since. Mrs. Hufhines worked for Continental Telephone Co. and Allsups before becoming a substitute teacher for Dimmitt ISD. She worked as the ISS teacher for 18 years, retiring in 2002. Her hobbies included crochet, cross stitch, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading, gardening and canning. She loved to travel, fish and hunt for treasures at garage sales and auctions. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and confidant who will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her father, John Hawkins; and three brothers, Clayton, Curtis and Joe Hawkins. Survivors include her husband, Garry Hufhines of Dimmitt; two daughters, Trisha Crow of Norman, Okla., and Keri Magby of Lubbock; a son, Brian Hufhines of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her mother, Joyce Hawkins of Haskell; three sisters, Darlene Conn and Margaret Tatum, both of Haskell, and Floradean Cockerell of Abilene; and six brothers, James Hawkins of Wichita Falls, Gary Lee Hawkins and Sammy Hawkins, both of Haskell, Glendon Hawkins of Lincoln, Ark., Johnny Hawkins of Jerrell and Bobby Hawkins of Lewisville. Graveside services are pending in Borger, where she will be buried next to her beloved Floyd. Myrtle Blair, known to her family as "Mom Blair," and to her friends as "Butch," passed away Wednesday at her home at The Forum in The Woodlands. She was 96 years young. Born in 1909 in Delhi, Okla., Myrtle Blair followed her husband to the oil fields of the Texas Panhandle, where they made a home in the Huber carbon black camp in Borger. Her husband, Floyd Blair, preceded her in death in 1969, and she never remarried. She moved to Montgomery County in 1995 to be near her family, and lived independently until her death. Survivors include a sister, Annie Mae "Dutch" Robertson of Erick, Okla.; her only child, Jimmy Don Blair, and wife Nelda Luce Blair; and her only grandchild, Maris Ann Harkins, and husband Bradley Harkins, all of Montgomery County. Box 7652, The Woodlands, TX 77385. --------------------------------------------------------------- Richard Edward Guest WEATHERFORD - Richard Edward Guest, 61, died Thursday, April 6, 2006, in Fort Worth. Graveside services were at 1 p.m. Saturday in Memory Gardens in Weatherford. Richard Guest was born Dec. 22, 1944, to Wilson and Dortha Jean Guest. He attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Richard married Donna Bledsoe in Sweetwater in June 1964. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Besides being a successful businessman, Richard was also a charismatic storyteller with a quick wit, a gifted artist and an exceptional horseman. Richard never met a stranger; those who knew him could not help but love him. He will be remembered for his generosity and fierce loyalty to those he held dear. LaVoe was born July 25, 1927, in Roaring Springs to Clyde Everett Mitchell and Cora Ann Pnipps Mitchell. She attended and graduated from Roaring Springs High School. She married Joe M. "Buzz" Thacker on Aug. 25, 1946, in Roaring Springs. LaVoe worked as the secretary of Thacker Supply with 30 years of service. Mrs. Thacker was a board member of Friends of the Depot, Secretary of the Roaring Springs Cemetery Association for many years, Charter Member of Predicta Study Club, serving for three terms as president, and a member of the Springs Ranch Golf Club. LaVoe was an avid golfer, winning the club championship on numerous occasions. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Mrs. Thacker was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Clyda "KeKe" Nichols; and a brother, Don Mitchell. Survivors include three sons, Joey Thacker and wife Ann of Lubbock, John R.
