Harris Jr., 89, of Amarillo died Thursday, April 13, 2006. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Harris, our loving "husband, daddy, father-in-law, granddad and great-granddad" died Thursday, April 13. W.L. was born April 6, 1917, in Amarillo to William L. and Geneva Harris. He grew up working at his parents grocery business located at 1623 S. Buchanan St. He was a 1935 graduate of Amarillo High School. For 38 years, W.L. worked as an engineer for the Santa Fe Railway in the Amarillo area and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. From 1958 to 1966, he also operated Harris Paint and Hardware Store on south Buchanan. He married Evelyn Mincher on Sept. 26, 1937, in Tulia. They lived in Amarillo and were very proud of their 68 years of marriage. With Evelyn, W.L. was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Upon retirement from Santa Fe, W.L. and Evelyn built their summer home at Spanish Peaks, Colo. They dearly enjoyed their many summers together there with family and many good friends. We would like to give special thanks to the caring staff at BSA Hospice. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles; and a sister, Virginia Ann. Georgia St. Mr. Bourland was born in Matador in Motley County on June 22, 1942, to John Blakley Bourland and Genelle Standefer Bourland. During his early years, he lived at the Frying Pan Ranch in Bushland. He graduated from high school at Canyon. He served two years in the Army "Big Red One" Division in Vietnam and was proud to be a veteran. He married Nancy Helton Bourland at Canyon on Jan. 10, 1975. He "cowboyed" in the Amarillo area and at the Amarillo Livestock Auction for many years. He loved his life, his family and his many, many friends. He will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Bourland and Genelle Lowery. He was a longtime member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church and the Amarillo Executive Club. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Boone Evans; a grandson, Michael Webb on Oct. 2, 1981; a sister, Marion Wheatley on Sept. 30, 2001; and a daughter, Jacqueline Clark on June 15, 2005. After serving in the Navy, he began his broadcast career with Marsh Media, which spanned 33 years. John served not only his country but his community by participating on various boards and committees. He was a teacher in many ways, and his advice was sought by friends, family and community leaders. John cherished the times he spent with his longtime friends pursuing their mutual love of hunting and spending time outdoors. He was the perfect Daddy and a fun and playful Papa to the grandchildren he cherished. As a husband, he was an encouraging and tender companion to his wife, Pat, whom he married on March 1, 1996. After taking retirement from KVII as general sales manager, he and Pat moved to Santa Fe, N.M., where for seven years they enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and company of new friends. They returned to Amarillo to be closer to family and friends in 2004. He worked for Child Protective Services for seven years and recently earned his five year pin as a counselor for Texas Rehabilitation Center. Dana loved to fish and was an avid Cub's fan. She was the youngest of 10 children and the last survivor of her generation. She was a loving mother and good homemaker, raising her children in Wheeler and Collingsworth counties. Early in life, Laura and Clarence Williams were married and had two children, Dean and Ruth. A few years later, Laura moved to Texas with her children and soon married William Tatum "Bill" Mayberry. She was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1968; a grandchild in 1986; a great-grandson; her parents; five brothers; and four sisters. Mrs. Niles was born Feb. 3, 1919, in Fort Worth to James and Ora Gaither McAdams. She married James Niles in Fort Worth on Sept. 6, 1947. After her husband was ordained a minister in 1956, they served churches in Dallas for nearly 20 years. In 1975, James and Elizabeth came to serve St. James Episcopal Church in Dalhart. Elizabeth was church secretary and a vital part of the ministry. She was a member and served as president of the Daughters of the King and was also a member of the Episcopal Church Women. Elizabeth remained in Dalhart after her husband died in December 1984. She remained an important part of St. James until her passing. Survivors include a brother, Edgar McAdams and wife, Joyce A. Mr. Lowrie was born Aug. 17, 1918, at his family home in Hunt County to Walter Dee Lowrie Sr. and Anna Riley Lowrie. He attended A&M in 1937. He moved to Fort Worth in 1947, where he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and retired after 31 years of service. In 1966, he married Marilyn Eppes of Fort Worth, and they enjoyed extensive traveling from New England to western Canada to northern Mexico. He was also an avid gardener. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Marilyn. Survivors include a daughter, Carla Jo Allen of Fort Worth; a stepson, John A. Eppes of Reno, Nev.; a grandson, Matthew W. Allen and wife, Wendy; two granddaughters, Jennifer L. Allen and Courtney Eppes; a great-grandson, Matthew Blake Allen; a great-granddaughter, Kylie Brook Allen; two sisters, Annette Stevens and Mozelle Eakens; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and good friends, Mike and Tena Lutz. She lived in Amarillo and Odessa prior to moving to Austin in 1989. Mrs. Kirksey enjoyed a 46-year career with the Santa Fe Railway and served as past president of National Railway Business Women. She was known as an expert telegraph operator. During the last several years of her life, Mrs. Kirksey found great pleasure in working as a teacher and chapel director of the one- and two-year-olds at Hyde Park Baptist Preschool and as a Sunday school worker at New Life United Pentecostal Church. She cheerfully served the Lord and lived life to the fullest, driving, working and helping us all up until two days before her passing. A beloved sister, mother, grandmother and friend, her unconditional love was felt by all. She truly lived by Psalm 17:17, "A friend loveth at all times..." She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Leatha Dickinson, and two brothers, Carroll and Ronnie Dickinson.
