Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Amarillo South Church with Charlie Cox officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery East by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. John was born Feb. 19, 1950, in Hollis, Okla., and was a graduate of Wellington High School. He has been a resident of Amarillo for many years, working as a carpenter as well as a cabinet builder. He enjoyed doing many things including playing his bass guitar and taking his grandchildren for rides on his custom-built Kawasaki "Chopper" motorcycle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Edith Abernathy. Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Loden of Amarillo; a brother, Bobby Cole of Hollis; a sister, Donnie Terry of Hollis,; and four grandchildren, Tori, Dakkota, Hunter and Katelyn, all of Amarillo. Maria Robles Garcia married Timoteo Hernandez Galan on Sept. 7, 1953. She was preceded in death by her parents, Esteban Garcia and Concha Robles Galan in September 2003. Georgia St. Mr. Bourland was born in Matador in Motley County on June 22, 1942, to John Blakley Bourland and Genelle Standefer Bourland. During his early years, he lived at the Frying Pan Ranch in Bushland. He graduated from high school at Canyon. He served two years in the Army "Big Red One" - Vietnam and was proud to be a veteran. He married Nancy Helton Bourland at Canyon on Jan. 10, 1975. He "cowboyed" in the Amarillo area and at the Amarillo Livestock Auction for many years. He loved his life, his family and his many, many friends. He will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Bourland and Genelle Lowery. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with Dr. G.A. Roach, pastor of Bushland Community Church in Bushland, officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Mr. Bryan was born in Plainview and had lived in Amarillo since the 1950s. He was a retired Navy lieutenant, had been a civil engineer for the Texas Highway Department and was on the team of engineers that constructed Interstate 40 from New Mexico to Oklahoma. He retired in 1989 after 32 years of service. He was then an engineer for Cornerstone Engineering Lab for several years. Mr. Bryan was a graduate of Borger High School. He was also a Texas Tech University graduate. He married "Jackie" Selner on July 4, 1964, in Amarillo. He and his family were founding members of the Deaf/Blind Multi-handicap Association and he served as treasurer for 11 years. He was a Presbyterian. Survivors include his wife, Jackie Bryan of Amarillo; two daughters, Lynn Perry of Liberal, Kan., and Lee Ann Bryan of Amarillo; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Pitts of Lovington, N.M., and Dorothy Grigsby of Wheatridge, Colo.; a brother, John Bryan of Albuquerque, N.M.; and four grandchildren, Trent Gibson, Nisa Gibson, Emily Salvador and William Salvador. Bell St. Chad was born March 7, 1979, in Borger to Elizabeth "Liz" and David Casida Sr. Chad was a 1998 graduate of Borger High School where he loved to play football for the Borger Bulldogs. After high school, Chad worked for RPM, his uncle's shop in Borger. In 2005 Chad was living in California and working at So-Cal Speed Shop. Most recently Chad was employed by Amarillo Fabrication Shop. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Borger. Chad had a love for welding and had a most profound compassion and ability to build motorcycles. He lived life to the fullest and made lasting friendships wherever he went. Chad will be truly missed by all his family and friends. He was strongly connected to all his family and was dearly loved by one and all. He was preceded in death by both parents. She grew up in White Deer and attended Chillicothe Business College in Missouri before graduating from West Texas State University with a business degree in 1942. Mrs. Scott worked at the Psychiatric Pavilion from 1977 until her retirement 14 years later. She married Beecher B. Scott on Aug. 18, 1951. He preceded her in death in January 1985. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St., with the Rev. Robert E. Field, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Military rites will be by DAV Chapter No. 26. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Wood was born Jan. 28, 1919, in Howe. He was raised on a farm near Lark. Mr. Wood attended Clarendon College and West Texas College. He served in the Navy during World War II as a captain on a sub chaser. After returning to Amarillo, he began working for Texaco. In 1949, he left Texaco to run a ranch for his brother-in-law in southeast Colorado. He returned to Amarillo in 1952 and rejoined the Texaco Corp. While at Texaco, he returned to college and received a BS in mathematics from West Texas State University. He worked as a chemist at the Amarillo refinery until 1963 and then helped with the opening of Texaco Refineries in Guatemala and Honduras. After returning to the states, Mr. Wood worked in environmental areas until his retirement in 1974. He married Jeanne Elizabeth Whitaker in February 1942. After his retirement from Texaco, they moved to Mountain Home, Idaho, where they owned and operated an electrical company. Following Jeanne's death in 1982, Raymon returned to Amarillo. He resided at the Continental. Mr. Wood loved music and played the guitar for the Lakeside Ramblers and the Half Price Band. He was a member of the Western Swing Music Association. Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Wood and wife Barbara and Jim Wood and wife Fern, all of Amarillo; a brother, Bobby Wood and wife Mary of Clarendon; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Klyda was born Feb. 9, 1924, in Wellington, Texas, to Clarence Ernest and Enice Narcissus Obenhaus Coleman. Klyda attended school in Shamrock, Texas, and moved to the Durant area in 1998 from Amarillo. She worked at TG&Y and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Her hobbies included sewing and crafts. Klyda will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarance and Enice Coleman; and a brother, C.E. Coleman. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Parklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Drew Travis of First Presbyterian Church of Plainview officiating. Arrangements are by Wood Dunning Funeral Home. Mr. Hudgins was born Dec. 22, 1938, in Hagerman, N.M., and moved shortly thereafter with his family to Plainview. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1957. He served in the Texas National Guard from 1956 to 1965. He began his career as a court reporter in the district attorney's office in Houston. He later worked for Santa Fe Railway, first in the Amarillo office, and then in Chicago, spanning 21 years in the labor relations department for the railroad. After moving back to West Texas, Mr. Hudgins worked 14 years for the city of Lubbock in codes administration. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Hudgins; and a brother, Earnest Hudgins. Survivors include his beloved daughter, Christy Stewart of Amarillo; and his mother, Mae Jones of Lubbock, to whom he was a devoted son. Amarillo Globe-News, April 18, 2006 ============================================================================ Gary Preston Brown CHILDRESS - Gary Preston Brown, 58, died Saturday, April 15, 2006, in Amarillo. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Norman Rushing officiating. Military burial will follow in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. A host of angels carried Gary Preston Brown, 58, to his heavenly home April 15 while at the Veterans Hospital in Amarillo. Gary's disease took his presence from us, but his precious memory will remain in our hearts forever. Gary was born April 22, 1947, in Hollis, Okla. He attended elementary school through his sophomore year of high school in Childress before his father was transferred to Illinois. He was affectionately known as "Tex" to his Illinois classmates because of his boots and accent. Upon completion of high school, he attended college at the University of Missouri and later worked for the Santa Fe Railway in Long Beach, Calif. Gary was drafted into the Army in July 1967, and completed basic training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, where he achieved the expert rating with the M-14 rifle. This is the highest mark a soldier can achieve on the weapons qualifications testing. Gary proudly served as a Squad Leader in Company B, 3rd Battalion of the 25th Infantry Division's 22nd Infantry, and was later promoted to sergeant while in Vietnam. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Army Commendation Medal for Heroism. He was a true hero in every sense of the word. Gary always counted it an honor and a privilege to have served his country to protect and preserve our American rights and freedoms. Gary loved Childress and was a loyal Bobcat fan. He enjoyed following their many accomplishments in the 2005-2006 season. He was a member of First Baptist Church. The family would like to thank Dr. David Caldwell of Childress and all the doctors and nursing staff at the Amarillo VA Hospital for their compassionate care. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Brown, in February 1998; his maternal grandparents, Pope and Elsie Taylor; and his fraternal grandparents, Perry and Cora Brown. Left to cherish his memory are his loving mother, Margaret Jo Brown of Childress; his brother and best friend, Mark Brown and wife Leslie of Abilene; his adoring sister, Susan Holland and husband John of Hurst. Tommy Joe Bryant passed away Saturday, April 15, 2006, at her home in San Jon, after an extended illness. Tommy Joe Beggs Bryant was born March 12, 1935, in Amarillo, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Rose Beggs. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Duwayne Bryant of San Jon; two sons, Brad Bryant and wife Julie of San Jon and Gary Bryant and wife Melissa of Houston; six grandchildren; a sister, Earlene Wooten of San Jon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wood passed away Saturday, April 15, 2006, in a Brownwood nursing facility. Katharine was born Nov. 9, 1919, in Waverly, Kan., to Henry and Ava Chamberlain Boyd. She married Gordon Wood in January 1944 in San Diego, where Gordon was stationed during World War II. Together they moved to Brownwood in 1960 when Gordon accepted the position of athletic director for the Brownwood schools. He passed away Dec. 14, 2003, after 59 years of marriage. Katharine was a longtime, faithful and active member of Union Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; and a brother. Survivors include a daughter, Pat Wood of San Antonio; a son, Jim Wood and wife Jan of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Ty and Erin, both of Amarillo; and a large extended family that she had helped through the years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Union Presbyterian or to the Pearl Griffin Latch Key Program at Union Presbyterian Church.
