Sutton C.O. Sutton, 92, of Amarillo died Sunday, April 23, 2006. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard K. Batson and Dr. Winfred Moore officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Sutton was born Aug. 7, 1913, in Collinsville, Okla. He graduated from high school at Sand Springs High School, where he excelled in track and field, winning numerous medals in pole vaulting and tennis. He attended Oklahoma State University, formerly Oklahoma A&M, to get a pre-med degree and then transferred to Kirksville School of Osteopathy & Surgery, Kirksville, Mo. He married Frances Kerr on Nov. 24, 1938, in Sand Springs, Okla. They moved to Amarillo in 1945 with White and Kirk Department Store, where he was a window decorator. He decorated windows for many years all over the Panhandle. He was a general contractor based in Amarillo for many years until his retirement at the age of 78. He and his wife loved to travel and had the opportunity to go to six continents. He loved the game of golf and shot his age (83) on his 83rd birthday. He and Mrs. Sutton had a deep love for worldwide missions and were instrumental in planting churches and schools in India and Brazil. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon as well as on many committees and served as a greeter at the front doors of the church since 1951. He was a member of the Henry Brown Sunday School Class. Mr. and Mrs. Sutton were instrumental in starting Faith City Mission with founders Dick and Bea Hogan. Mr. Sutton had served on the board of directors for Faith City Mission for more than 50 years. The new family shelter under construction at this time is to be named the C.O. and Frances Sutton Family Shelter. The new facility is being built beside the existing facility that was built by Mr. Sutton. He had a servant's heart, a sweet spirit and a deep love for his Lord and for his family. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2004 and a son, Stephen Dean Sutton in 2001. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Sutton Gilmer and husband, Jimmy, of Nashville, Tenn., and Janice Sutton Heineman and husband, Robert, of Colleyville, and four grandchildren, Taylor Heineman, Parker Heineman, Oliver Sutton and Stephen Sutton. She graduated from nursing school in Lubbock in 1956 and taught nursing in Midland. She married William Lee Land in 1962. He passed away in 1995. She retired soon after his death and moved to Amarillo to be with her family. Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Young of Carrollton; a son, Stephen Land of Amarillo; two sisters, Sarah B. Phillipp and Nancy McKee, both of Amarillo; a grandson; two great-grandchildren; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Mr. Anderson was born Sept. 12, 1945, to J.C. and Margie Anderson. He was a lifetime resident of Amarillo and retired from the city of Amarillo after 33 years. Forkner on July 6, 1946. He preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1983. She moved to Amarillo in 1954 from Memphis. She was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. She married Richard Fox on Sept. 22, 1971, in Clovis, N.M. She had lived in Amarillo since 1957. She worked at Dino's Drive-In for more than 20 years. She enjoyed painting, crocheting, knitting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for her kindness and compassion toward all people. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Elvie Lee; two grandsons, Dennis Roberson and Richard McDonald; and a granddaughter, Christina Chuley. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Katherine Lou Jackson, Mary Sue Walker and Addie White, all of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Mrs. McMurtry was called home to the Lord on April 22, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Sandy began her journey of life on July 10, 1944, in the town of Paris, Texas, before moving with her family to Houston, where she remained until retiring with husband, Wayne, to Amarillo in 2002. In Houston, they lived for many happy years in the community of Hearthstone, where they had many many dear friends and neighbors. Sandy had a contagious gift for life and always held out a helping hand to all in need. She was a wonderful homemaker and cook and loved to have her home filled with friends and laughter. Special thanks to her extended family at Memphis Convalescent Home for all their dedicated care and kindness. The memory of her happy smile and true gift of life will forever live in the heart of her family and friends. He retired from Diamond Shamrock in 1995 after 35 years.
