Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Llano Cemetery and memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Polk Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marty Hamrick, associate pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Guy Wayne Leach was born May 12, 1922, near Mountain Grove, Douglas County, Mo. He graduated from Borger High School in 1940 and from the University of Oklahoma in 1949 with a B.S. degree in geology. He was a charter member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Chapter at Oklahoma University. He married Patricia Dean Webb on Jan. 23, 1947, in Norman, Okla. IN 1950 they moved to Amarillo, where he was a geologist with Santa Fe Energy/Oil Development Co. of Texas until his retirement in 1980. He served as a consultant for the energy industry after his retirement. He was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army Air Force serving as a flight engineer and gunner on B-17s. He was a member of the 8th Air Force, 452nd Bomb Group and received several medals for his World War II service. He was actively involved with the athletic programs at Kids, Inc., where he served as a coach and mentor for many years. He was a member and held leadership positions in the Air Force Association, Sons of the American Revolution, Confederate Air Force, High Plains Aviation Association and Texas Aviation Historical Society. He devoted many hours in working with the Air Force ROTC of Palo Duro High School. He was a longtime member of the Homebuilders Sunday School Class at Polk Street United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patti, in 2001. Survivors include a daughter, Janet Stowers and husband Richard of Pampa; a son, Alan Leach and wife Susan of Fort Worth; a brother, Henry Milton Leach and wife Gladys of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Sean Stowers of Pampa and Kelley Stowers of Abilene; and treasured companion, Peggy Youngblood. Georgia St. Mr. Thames was born May 4, 1929, in Colorado City to Joe Bailey and Zudie Lee Thames. He graduated from Andrews High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 until 1954. He married Conetha Fennell on June 16, 1951, in Earth. They would have celebrated 55 years of marriage in June. He was a lifetime member of the Lions Club. It was his life's passion. Mr. Thames was privileged to hold every office in the local Lions Club. He was governor of T-21 International, director of the eye bank of Texas, a President of the Eye Bank Association of Texas and was an authorized collector of donated eyes. He was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award, the highest honor of the Lions Club. He was a member of South Georgia Church. Willie Mae Wiley was born April 11, 1921, to Ida Mae Kunz and George Washington Wiley, near Snyder. She graduated from Ira High School in 1940 and on June 1 that same year, she married A.G. Flippin. They lived initially in Snyder, but moved to Amarillo in 1942. Willie Mae's primary career was that of homemaker, but she also worked as a telephone operator for a period during World War II and the early '50s.She then was bookkeeper for A.G.'s plumbing business. In 1962, they moved to the farm near Vega and Willie Mae helped with the farming and ranching operations. She also worked for 10 years with the U.S. Postal Service in Vega and Amarillo. Willie Mae was a member of West Amarillo Christian Church and later attended Trinity Baptist in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her four brothers.Survivors include her husband of almost 66 years; her children, Wanda O'Connor of Round Rock and Arvil Flippin Jr. of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.Pallbearers will be five grandsons and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Imogene Geisler, in 1990. He worked on a ranch before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He was a platoon leader and was stationed in Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash. After his service to his country, Mr. Welch returned to Silverton. They moved to Swisher County in 1961 where he continued to farm and ranch. He was an assistant manager of Tulia Feed Lot for 12 years. He attended First Baptist Church in Kress. He was a charter member of the National Cutting Horse Association and life member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merida and Lillie Welch; and two brothers, Lynn Welch and Clauda Welch. He married Judy Burson on Sept. 17, 1956, in Fort Sumner, N.M. She preceded him in death on Sept. 19, 2003.
