Graveside services were in Claude Cemetery in Claude with the Rev. Regi Fowler of Paramount Terrace Christian Church officiating. Arrangements were by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Beverley was born in Kansas City, Mo. She was a member of Senior Citizens and loved to play bridge. She was a fine Christian woman and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Survivors three daughters, Rita Brown and husband Luther of Lake Tanglewood, Sue Jones and husband Trav of Floydada and Donna York and husband Ralph of Amarillo; two sisters, Marge Chase of Covina, Calif., and Patricia Mendoza of Los Angeles; five grandchildren, Karie, Brent, Rod, Kyle and Dink; and five great-grandchildren, Jessica, Kale, Karsyn, Kenna and Kady. Amarillo Globe-News, May 4, 2006 ============================================================================ Area Oran Gossett DALHART - Oran Gossett, 82, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, in Amarillo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. James Episcopal Church with the Rev. Ken MacKenzie as celebrant. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Floyd Oran Gossett was born Sept. 28, 1923, in Des Moines, N.M., to Floyd and Anne Rowlett Gossett. Raised in Des Moines, Oran was captain of the football team and graduated from Des Moines High School in 1940. He moved to Dalhart after he graduated and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1943. Oran was a tail gunner and bombardier and was shot down over Europe. He was a P.O.W. for more than a year before being released at the end of World War II. He returned to Dalhart after the war and married Lois Polk on Nov. 22, 1947, in Des Moines. Oran farmed and ranched in the Dalhart area as well as in New Mexico. He was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church and had served as junior and senior warden many times. Oran was a member of the Ambassadors Club and received his 50-year pin from the Rock Island Masonic Lodge; he was also a member of the Elks Lodge, former XIT rodeo and reunion director and a past Lion. Oran loved his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and their husbands; and a nephew. Survivors include his wife, Lois Gossett of Dalhart; a daughter, Lorilann "Lolly" Gossett of Dallas; a son, Charles Scott Gossett of Plano; and a niece, Sandra and husband J.G. Wells of Ozark, Ark. Arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Mrs. Gibson was born July 10, 1919, to Ernest Randolph Gibson and Belva Womble Gibson in Comanche. She married Robert H. Gibson on Feb. 21, 1942. Survivors include two sons, James Gibson of Friendswood and Charles Mac Gibson of Houston; a daughter, Mary Warren of Amarillo; two sisters, Ernestine Gibson Wheelock of Austin and Mary Dena Usrey of Portales, N.M.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Phillips, 60, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Hampton Vaughan Crestview with Jim Moore, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. Gary was born Oct. 17, 1945, in Turkey to James and Dorothy Hulen Phillips. He married Marylin Pierce on Nov. 6, 1998, in Wellington. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was employed by the city of Wichita Falls. He was a member of VFW David Gibb's Post No. 8878 and TAVV. Gary was loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, James Phillips. Survivors include his wife, Marylin Phillips; his mother, Dorothy Phillips of Wellington; a daughter, Kimberly Jennings and husband Daniel of Wichita Falls; sons, Michael Murphy of Wichita Falls and Matt Murphy of Carlsbad, N.M.; best friend, Richard Lucas of Wichita Falls; sisters, Dorothy Stadleman of Burkburnett, Brenda Barton and Alta Porter, both of Wellington, and Judy James of Snider; brothers, Jimmy Owen Phillips and Bub Phillips, both of Childress; and grandchildren, Amelia and Isabelle Jennings.
