Col. William Frank Dillon Retired Lt. Col. William Frank Dillon, 84, of Amarillo died Sunday, May 14, 2006. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Whitt, pastor of Coulter Road Baptist Church, officiating. Military rites will be by Fort Hood Army Base. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St. Lt. Col. Dillon was born June 10, 1921, in South Hammond, N.Y., to Hazel Julia Reynolds Dillon and Charles Kenneth Dillon. He graduated from Hammond High School and attended Canton Agricultural College in Canyon, N.Y. He managed the Feed and Farm Supply Store in Ithaca, N.Y., for three years. On May 20, 1956, he received his bachelor of science degree from West Texas State University in Canyon. Lt. Col. Dillon served our country proudly in the U.S. Air Force. He was a B-24 pilot, a member of the 467th Bomb Group and a member of the Carpetbaggers Mission. Serving missions in Normandy, Northern France, the air offensive in Europe World War II and the Korean War, he received many service medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was also retired from the U.S. Postal Service of Amarillo. He had a green thumb and also worked at the J.C. Penney garden shop when it was located in Sunset Center. He was loved by many people, and he coached for many years for Kids, Inc. including girls' softball, basketball and volleyball. He was a member of Coulter Road Baptist Church. He married Tilatha Vernice Long on Jan. 4, 1944, in Salt Lake City, and they had enjoyed more than 62 years of being together. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Ellen; and his parents. Survivors include his wife, Tilatha Vernice Long Dillon; his children, Marsha and Harold Waters of Longview, James Dillon of Amarillo, Patricia "Poo" and Jeff Wiarda of Sheldon, Iowa, and Kathy and Travis Russ of Hospers, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Ivey was born in Abilene to William Guy and Jesse Bates Ivey. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. As a young man, he attended seminary and served as the music minister of Buchanan Street Baptist Church. Mr. Ivey was a talented man and held many different occupations, from a business manager to city and school bus driver. Even after retirement, he sought out different ways to help in the community and kept active until his health prevented it. He was an active and involved member of Paramount Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice McCormick Ivey. He worked as an oil pumper for Cabot-Pampa Plant for 40 years, retiring in 1995. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during the Korean conflict. He loved his family and his grandchildren. He was an avid bowler for 30 years and loved to play the guitar and sing. When he was 12 years old, he had a 30-minute musical radio program at KVWC in Vernon.
