Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Cutrell was born Nov. 27, 1928, in Silverton. She married Roy Cutrell on Nov. 1, 1947, in Memphis. Bettye was a member of East Amarillo Church of Christ. Bettye and Roy started Cutrell Trucking Co. in 1961 and retired from the business in 1992. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon in 2001. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery in Morgan by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. DeShazo was born March 31, 1929, in Sterling City and was the oldest daughter of Arthur Lewis Findt and Edna Lee Duke Findt. She had been a resident of Amarillo since 1990. She graduated from Tahoka High School in Tahoka and from Draughon's Business College in Lubbock. She married R.J. "Red" DeShazo on Dec. 31, 1989. He died Jan. 7, 2003. Mrs. DeShazo retired after 35 years as a civil service employee with Veterans Administration (Veterans Affairs) in regional offices in Lubbock and Waco. Amarillo Globe-News, May 28, 2006 Robert "Nelson" Canode Jr. Robert "Nelson" Canode Jr., 54, of Amarillo died Friday, May 19, 2006, in Spring. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. today in Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeff Conway and the Rev. Marty Loberg officiating. Mr. Canode was born Dec. 8, 1951, in Amarillo to Robert Nelson Canode Sr. and Shirley Stern. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1970 and spent most of his life in Amarillo before settling in Spring with his wife, Debbie. He had a prolific career in sales, which included his own flooring company he opened in 2002. The company prospered not only locally but all along the southeastern United States as well. Nelson lived a vibrant life, filled with stories. From beginning to end, he took everything he did to the limit and then went a little further. It was all or nothing with "Ol' Nelly," as he liked to refer to himself. He was bigger than life, impacting everyone and everything he came into contact with. To know Nelson five minutes was to remember him forever. He was fun and funny, always laughing and playing practical jokes, always the life of the party, even if there wasn't one. He had a great passion for golf, which he shared most often with his sister, and a passion for filling his life with stories that he shared most often with his brother and friends. His love for bowling was shared with his sons, whom he consistently beat, coining the phrase "Touchdown, Nelly!" He loved to go out to eat and try new restaurants, taking his family along as much as possible to make the experience all the better. Above all else, his greatest passion was loving his family. There were no limits to how much he loved. As a grandfather, father, husband, brother, uncle and friend, he was greatly loved and appreciated and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents. He had a love for music and had a charming smile. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church with Nancy Ruff, commissioned lay pastor of First Presbyterian Church, and Roger Hunter, his son-in-law, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Bohlander was born Feb. 20, 1925, in Erie, Kan. He came to Pampa in 1954 from Stark, Kan., where he graduated from Stark High School. He married Mary Lee McPheeters in 1947. She preceded him in death in 1960. He later married Betty Myatt on Aug. 23, 1961, in Pampa. In 1963, he purchased Pampa Bearing Service Co., which built industrial engine bearings for jet engines. He established a construction company called Pampa Grouting Service and performed work for the oil, gas and chemical industries in the Texas Panhandle and the western part of the United States. He was a pilot and had logged several thousand hours of flying time. He was a member of the Pampa Flying Club, did volunteer work for Pampa Meals on Wheels and was an active volunteer for BSA Hospice for 10 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Pampa Masonic Lodge No. 966 AF & AM and the Lubbock Scottish Rite Consistory and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Bohlander. Monte was born Sept. 19, 1930, in Dalhart, Texas, to Earl Owen Thomas and Priscilla Beatrice Dutton Thomas. Monte attended schools in Dalhart and graduated from the Kemper Military Academy. Monte then continued his education at Goodwell College. Monte married Myrna J. Tryon on Dec. 20, 1949, in Guymon. Monte retired as a maintenance supervisor in Dumas, Texas, was a member of the Dumas Lions Club and was a deacon in First Christian Church of Dumas for many years. Monte moved to Oklahoma in 1997. Monte enjoyed fishing and playing solitaire. Monte will be missed by all who knew him. Monte was preceded in death by his wife and his parents. Amarillo Globe-News, May 28, 2006 Elsewhere Derward Thayne "Red" Amonett CEDAR PARK - Derward Thayne "Red" Amonett, 86, formerly of Lubbock, died Thursday, May 25, 2006. Celebration of life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. John's United Methodist Church of Lubbock. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock by Rix Funeral Directors of Lubbock. After 86 joyful years, Mr. Amonett passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 25, in Cedar Park. The youngest of 10 siblings, Thayne was born to Elmira Octivie Irwin and John Alvis Amonett on Dec. 29, 1919, in Beaty. The family moved several times before settling in Flomot. Thayne participated in various school athletic events, which would help him gain notoriety in his college career. After a stellar football career at Flomot High School, Thayne moved on to play at Texas Technological College. Burl Huffman delighted in introducing Thayne as the "Flomot Flash who flattened Floydada Friday; fans feel flabbergasted." To the end of his life, Thayne delighted in proclaiming that phrase to all he met. World War II interrupted his education, and he served as a warrant officer with the Army Air Corps in England during the war. After completing a degree in education at Texas Tech, his former coach, Pete Cawthon, recruited Thayne to play for the Detroit Lions. He then went on to coach football at Matador, Ralls, Crowell and Wellington. He is still remembered by many across West Texas as "Coach Amonett." After a 34 year career as an educator, coach, principal and superintendent, Thayne retired in 1982 from Lubbock Independent School District. In addition to his distinguished coaching career, Thayne was a loving father and grandfather, always finding time to attend athletic events and band trips. He was a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat who loved provoking arguments with the local Republicans. During his later years, he was a devoted fan at Texas Tech football and basketball games and loved to eat at 50-Yard Line and Black-Eyed Pea. Thayne will be remembered for his humor, his love for his family and his devotion to Texas Tech football. Thayne will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Maxine Johnson Amonett.
