Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Batson, pastor, officiating. Private family burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Adams was born June 8, 1931, in Stratford, the youngest of two daughters of Nelle and Henry Alexander, who predeceased her. Her older sister, Lenoir Mauldin, also predeceased her in Longview. She attended public schools in Stratford, Amarillo and Canyon, in the latter of which, she graduated from Canyon High School. She also received a bachelor's degree in English from West Texas State University. Mrs. Adams was a homemaker, devoted mother and avid reader, who inherited much of her mother's beauty and kind and compassionate nature with a ready smile for all. A woman of boundless energy, she enjoyed utilizing her many God-given talents, including her culinary skills and the use of her melodic voice in singing solos at various school and church functions. But her greatest pleasures came from employing her talents as both a renowned painter of oil landscapes, and impeccable taste in designing and creating elegant and beautiful ladies clothes, the latter of which evolved from making doll clothes for spending money in her youth. Mrs. Adams led an idyllic life with Richard E. Adams, her loving husband of 26 years, with whom she also shared a love of Christ as dedicated and longtime members of First Baptist Church of Amarillo and the Minnie Murphy Sunday School Class. Survivors include her husband, Richard; three children, who were born during a prior marriage to the now deceased Clifford Burtz, a daughter, Marla Rushing and husband Ron of San Antonio, two sons, Lawrence Christian Burtz and wife Sandi and Lane Clifford Burtz, all of Plano, and Richard's two sons by a prior marriage to the now deceased Wilma Jean Jones, Brian Cass Adams of Houston and Scott Alan Adams and wife Linda of Sugarloaf Key, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Jason Day of Madison, Wis., Joshua Day and wife Lisa of Houston, Brian Burtz and wife Kiersten, Taylor Burtz and Danielle Burtz, all of Plano, and Matthew Burtz and wife Jacqueline of Chicago. The family suggests memorials to Olivia's Angels, who so eased her passing, in care of BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105. The family will be at 7731 Baughman Drive in Amarillo.
