Amarillo Globe-News, June 4, 2006 John Thomas "Jack" Clifford CLARENDON - John Thomas "Jack" Clifford, 70, died Friday, June 2, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Tamplen of Midland and the Rev. Tom Garmon, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Clarendon, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mr. Clifford was born Jan. 22, 1935, in Clarendon to Dewey M. Clifford and Walter E. Clifford, the second of three boys. Jack attended Clarendon High School, graduating in 1953, followed by Clarendon College, where he met his future wife, Shirley McAbee. They were married March 28, 1954, in Hereford. Jack served in the U.S. Army in 1958 and 1959. Following his military service, Jack and Shirley returned to Clarendon in 1959 and went into the family grocery business. He continued in the grocery business and pursued other business opportunities in the community until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Clarendon. His greatest joy and pride rested with his children and grandchildren. He was also very proud of his many loyal friends and customers he had acquired during his many years of living and working in Clarendon. He valued faith, loyalty, honesty and integrity above all other traits. He was an avid supporter of Clarendon and thought it is the greatest place in the world to live. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a brother, Bob Clifford. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Central United Methodist Church with Jerry Moore, Everett Statler and Paul Hill officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. Dixon was born Aug. 3, 1909, in Ellis County, Okla., near Shattuck, Okla. She was the fifth child of Newton H. Rogers and Mabel Barnes Rogers. The family moved to Lipscomb County in 1915. She had all of her schooling in Lipscomb. Edythe married Earl Jefferson Dixon in 1935. They moved to Dallam County in May 1937, where they farmed and lived 22 miles west of Dalhart on south sedan route in the Bunkerhill community. They moved to town in 1968, where she resided until just before her stay at the Coon Home in January 2006. Edythe was a charter member of Bunkerhill Home Demonstration Club, in which she was Woman of the Year in 1977. She was also involved in other organizations including Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce, Womens Literary Club, Home and Garden Club, board member of the 55 Plus Club, Meals on Wheels, American Cancer Society, Coon Memorial Home, Interstate Fair Board, 4-H Club and Dalhart Senior Citizen Center. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and a member of the Martha circle. She was preceded in death by husband; her parents; two sisters; and two brothers. Amarillo Globe-News, June 4, 2006 Beryl Lee Long SILVERTON - Beryl Lee Long, 85, died Saturday, June 3, 2006. Private family memorial services will be at a later date. His body was donated to Texas Tech University Medical School according to his wishes. Arrangements are by Myers-Chancellor Funeral Home. Mr. Long was born Dec. 3, 1920, in Dallas to Maude and Henry Long. He moved to Silverton at an early age and lived with Monty and Clyde Lightsey. He helped Clyde with the farming until he was 16, when he moved to Los Angeles. He went to El Monte High School in Alhambra. After graduation, he went to work as a pattern maker at Douglas Aircraft in El Segundo, Calif. He married Viola Dorothy Bonnet on Aug. 27, 1946, in Hawthorne, Calif. He was a farmer, served as commissioner of Briscoe County and was president of the Farmer's Union. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Darwin; and a sister, Juanita. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike Long and wife Laura and their children, Ethan and Emily, and Jay Long, all of Silverton. Mrs. Fillingim taught school and was a homemaker. She married Leon Fillingim in 1935 in Arnett, Okla. He died in 1999. She moved to Texas in 1940 from Colorado and moved to Wheeler in 1960. Mrs. Pepper was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Wheeler County to Jasper Ross Henry and Jessie Cora Henderson Henry. She married J.L. Pepper on April 28, 1944, in Sayre, Okla. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2000. Frankie worked for Leggitt, Laycock and Walton Insurance Agency as a secretary. She helped with Meals on Wheels and First Baptist Church Ministry Center and was a member of Tres Amigas. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Shamrock. Mr. Stephens was born April 13, 1914, in Elk City, Kan. He was retired from the insurance and real estate business. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Rotary, president of the board of First Federal Savings and Loan, on the state board of Public Service Co. of New Mexico, a member of the Pendaries Golf Resort Association and a deacon of First Christian Church of Las Vegas. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Las Vegas Planning and Development Committee. He served in the U.S. Army. He married Wanda Bever on July 15, 1940, in Sayre, Okla. She preceded him in death in 1993. He married Cecile Singleton in 2000, and she preceded him in death in 2006. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Lewis passed from this life June 2, to go meet her maker. Mrs. Lewis was born Sept. 15, 1921, in Russellville, Ark., to Viola and Frank Davis. Naomi married the father of her three children, Willie Osburn, in 1939. She was a longtime resident of Amarillo and worked as a waitress for many years before many health problems forced her to retire. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Mrs. Lewis was always lending a hand to those in need. Mrs. Lewis was a member of East Amarillo Church of Christ. After losing her mother at age 10, she and her four younger siblings were cared for by her brother, Edward Davis. She was preceded in death by 10 siblings, and a son, Charles Osburn of Amarillo. Lane MERCER ISLAND, WASH. - Frank W. Lane, 71, died Friday, May 19, 2006, in Bellevue. Memorial services were at 1 p.m. Friday in First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue. Arrangements were by Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home. Mr. Lane was born Dec. 6, 1934, in Amarillo, Texas. The family traveled during World War II and later settled in Willow Springs, Mo., where Mr. Lane graduated from Willow Springs High School in 1953. The family returned to Amarillo, where he attended Amarillo College for two years. On June 28, 1957, he married Suzanne Patterson in Amarillo. Mr. Lane was drafted into the Army in 1958. He graduated in 1962 from the University of Colorado in electrical engineering and business administration. After a long tenure with Square D Co., a manufacturer of electrical equipment in Los Angeles, he transferred to Mercer Island in 1976 and retired in 2000. Mr. Lane was past president of the Rotary Club of Mercer Island, a member of the Mercer Island Beach Club, a 32nd Degree member of the Free and Accepted Masons and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue. He enjoyed biking, hiking, skiing, spending winters golfing in the Palm Desert area and especially spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren. He and his wife also enjoyed working on various volunteer projects here and abroad. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard K. Lane and Mark A. Lane, both of Kenmore; a daughter, Andrea S.
