Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Pleasant Valley Christian Church with Hal Rogers and Jerry Davey, pastors, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Clyde Murrell Ward was born Feb. 17, 1931, in Sudan to John and Jessie Bilderback Ward. He grew up on the family farms in Sudan and Littlefield. Later his family moved to Melrose, N.M. During his very early years, it became necessary for Clyde to work to help support his family during the Depression. He married Phyllis Joanne Curl on Jan. 12, 1950, in Las Lunas, N.M. Clyde was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and served with valor as a medic and combat soldier. Due to his experience as a medic, Clyde was required to stay in Korea until after the armistice was signed. He then returned to Albuquerque, N.M., where he was a self-employed as a master carpenter and general contractor working on commercial multi-story buildings and government installations in Albuquerque and Los Alamos, N.M. It was during his years in Los Alamos that he met President John F. Kennedy as he inspected a military site in which Clyde had been job superintendent. In later years, he moved his family to Ruidoso, N.M., in order to be closer to his parents. In 1975, he moved to Amarillo. He retired as a journeyman carpenter from Western Builders after a number of years service as a master carpenter. He enjoyed and loved to spend time with his family, tinker on his numerous "projects," hunt for deer and play dominoes. He looked forward to attending church services several times a week. Clyde was a man of honor, courage, integrity, faith and character who survived great hardships and continued to love well and deeply. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 20, 2000; his parents; and four brothers, Raymond Ward, Melvin Ward, Tom Ward and Bill Ward. Survivors include three daughters, Roberta Lynne Dean and husband Bob, Mary Jeannette Evans and husband Ricky and Wanda Lee Akens and husband Craig, all of Amarillo; three brothers, Lee Henry Ward of Ruidoso, Jim Ivan Ward of Mayhill, N.M., and Will Dan Ward of Las Cruces, N.M.; two sisters, Jessie Fay Stoner of Lampasas and Nancy Rose Beggs of Pep, N.M.; seven grandchildren, Reina Laura Dean of Barre, Vt., Robert Lee Dean Jr., Amy Nichole Ayars-Evans, Amber Rachel Evans, C.J. Lewis Evans, Angel Joanne Irene Evans and Lacey Paige Akens, all of Amarillo; and three great-grandchildren, Kurstie Danae Phillips, Samantha Lynn Dean and Trinity Cheyenne "Turtle" Evans. Amarillo Globe-News, June 14, 2006 ======================================================================== Melvin A. Romines Melvin A. Romines, 80, of Amarillo died Sunday, June 11, 2006. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by Fort Hood Army Base. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Romines was born in Kiowa County, Okla. He was a heavy equipment operator for J. Lee Milligan and Gilvin-Terrell Construction companies. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a POW in Germany and the recipient of a double Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Order of the Purple Heart and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge. He married Frances Kelly on April 6, 1986, in Amarillo. She preceded him in death in 2001. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Lynn Smith, in 2002. Survivors include four daughters, Judy Gordon and husband Bill and Kathy Wheeler, all of Amarillo, Leslie Selby and husband Don of Las Vegas and Jo Ann Scruggs of Springtown; two sons, Larry Kelly and wife Evelyn and Buford Wheeler, all of Amarillo; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, June 14, 2006 ======================================================================== Robert "Bob" Jackson DUMAS - Robert "Bob" Jackson, 79, died Monday, June 12, 2006, in Plainview. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Morrison Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Tubbs, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by Gordon Zeigler, Mr. Jackson's son-in-law. Burial will be in Northlawn Cemetery. Mr. Jackson was born April 29, 1927, in Scituate, Mass., the son of Charles Frederick and Sylvia Jackson. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 17. He served as a gunnery crewman in the Pacific aboard the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La, (CV38). His service spanned the launching of the new ship to its arrival in the Sea of Japan at the end of World War II. After his naval discharge in 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was trained as an artilleryman at Fort Bliss. He was in the Korean theater and assigned to the 92nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion. He was discharged from the Army at Camp Drum, N.Y., having attained the rank of sergeant first class. On Sept. 12, 1953, he married Barbara Irene Crowell in Harbor Methodist Church in Scituate. He began formal training to become a lifelong painter and wallpaper hanger. He entered the painting trade in August 1955. Answering a call to ministry with the Independent Baptist movement, he enrolled at Elohim Bible Institute in Warsaw, N.Y., and graduated on June 21, 1959. He accepted pastoral assignments in Maine and later served congregations in Coatsesville, Pa., and Connelsville, Pa., including pastorate of Church of the Open Door. He moved to the Midwest in the late 1960s to pursue ministerial duties in Albuquerque, N.M., and later in Morse. He later moved to Dumas where he founded Bob Jackson Painting, remaining here almost 30 years before moving to Plainview several years ago. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dumas. He served for many years as a supply minister to Baptist churches in the Texas Panhandle. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn, of Pensacola, Fla. Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Plainview; two daughters, Leah Zeigler and husband Gordon of Plainview and Beth Jackson of Dumas; a son, Stephen Robert Jackson and wife Becky of Pampa; two brothers, Walter Jackson of Brockton, Mass., and George Jackson of Scituate; and four grandchildren.
