Kristen was born Sept. 20, 1986, and being in a tragic accident at work, she went to join her husband, Bryan Minton, and her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, Friday, June 16. Kristen was raised in Amarillo and had relocated to Diboll in December 2005, where she worked for N-Line Traffic Maintenance Co. Kristen had a deeply loving spirit, a ready and beautiful smile and made all those around her feel loved. She loved to draw, design clothes, listen to music and be with her many friends and family. She was always drawn to animals and brought home any who needed her love. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Osage St. Oscar "Gordo" Esparza Jr. was born March 19, 1996, in Amarillo. He was in the fourth grade at Lawndale Elementary and attended Cornerstone Baptist Church. He fought a long battle with Ewing's Sarcoma cancer. He played first base, had many MVPs and home runs and even had the chance to throw out the first pitch for the Houston Astros. He was also a big fan of the Amarillo Dillas. He was a caring and loving brother and lived a very full life. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Harper was the daughter of Herman Wright Spear and Daisy Myrtle Watts Spear of Lakeview. She and her sister, Muriel Rigdon, grew up in Tulia, Happy and Lakeview, where she graduated from high school. Pauline married George D. Harper, a pharmacist, in 1945. They lived in Amarillo for their life together. Their son, Jerry G. Harper, was born in 1946. In her long life of helping others, she was a rural mail carrier, a pharmacy assistant, a cook in the public school system, a nursing home and hospital cook and a church nursery worker. She will be remembered for her many cookies and cakes and hot sauce. Before moving to St. Paul to be near her son, she had been a member of Temple Baptist, Paramount Baptist and San Jacinto Baptist churches. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and her husband. She was reared and attended school in Floydada, where she lived until moving to Amarillo 20 years ago. She was a member of Quail Creek Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. For many years, she was employed by Levi Strauss, and she retired from Luby's Cafeteria. Amarillo Globe-News, June 25, 2006 ======================================================================== Thelma Jean Blythe Thelma Jean Blythe, 84, of Amarillo died Tuesday, June 20, 2006. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive. Burial will be private. Mrs. Blythe passed from this life on Tuesday, June 20. She was a Christian, which gave her the promise of life in heaven. She was a longtime member of Southwest Church of Christ, where she taught children's Bible classes and worked in the nursery. Jean was born in Amarillo on Sept. 29, 1921, to Jere and Hattie Lawrence. She married William E. "Bill" Blythe on Aug. 24, 1939. A son, Robert, was born in Amarillo before they moved to California, where work was available for Bill in the aircraft industry during the early part of World War II. Two more sons, Jerry and Ronald, were born in California before the family returned to Amarillo near the end of the war. The family built their own home in south Amarillo in 1956, and Jean lived there for 48 years until becoming too ill to live alone. Jean was widowed in 1961, but had strong family support to sustain her. She studied accounting and found employment in that field. She worked in an accounting office until she was 75 and then continued doing some bookkeeping at home for several years. She loved sewing and was forever making and altering clothing for family and friends. She liked staying close to home, but was persuaded over the years to take trips to Germany, Mexico City and Honolulu. She was much loved by her grandchildren and cherished the time she got to spend with each of them. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Roland Lawrence; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Lawrence. Mrs. Padgett was born June 27, 1929, in Logan, Okla., to Walter C. and Helen Sperry. She worked as the office manager at McCarty-Hull Cigar Co. for more than 25 years. She married Warren Padgett on April 9, 1949, and they were married for 56 years before his death in 2005. She loved to bowl and encouraged many others to join area bowling leagues. She loved to fish in Colorado. Her favorite hobby was taking care of her grandchildren. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Mr. Griffin was born March 9, 1935, in Lefors to Issac Dewey Griffin and Vivian Mae Griffin. Dewey served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 until 1957, serving a one-year tour at Thule, Greenland. He married Melva Jo Pierce on Jan. 29, 1954, in Clovis, N.M. The family moved to Amarillo from Pampa in 1968. He worked for Bell Helicopter as a tool and die maker. After his retirement in 1991, Dewey applied his machine shop skills to designing bit, spur, knife and belt buckle making equipment. He and his machines are well known in the cowboy artist community. Music enriched Dewey's life, singing as a child, and later teaching himself piano, guitar, and other instruments. He served others as a deacon at Anna Street Church of Christ and enjoyed ministering through singing with church groups at retirement homes. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Dewey's memory will be cherished by many. He was preceded in death by a brother, Marlin Eldis Griffin. Amarillo Globe-News, June 25, 2006 ======================================================================== William Daniel "Dan" Welch FARMERS BRANCH - William Daniel "Dan" Welch, 71, formerly of Quanah, died Thursday, June 22, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Quanah with the Rev. Jesse Dea, pastor of Quanah First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park with Masonic graveside rites. Mr. Welch was born July 4, 1934, in Quanah to Judge Charlie York Welch and Elgan Easley Welch. He was an endowed member of the Quanah Lodge No. 689, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Hella Shrine of Dallas. Survivors include two daughters, Emilie Welch and Katharine Welch, both of Farmers Branch.
