Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with Jon Petty, assistant pastor of Cowboy Church, and Mark Payne, pastor of Revealed and Restored Word Ministries, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Yoakam was born April 9, 1922, to Ira and Avie Lee Hickenbottom. She married Russell LeRoy Yoakam on Nov. 13, 1940. They were married 59 years. She served God playing the piano, singing and teaching Sunday school for many years. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. She was preceded in death by her husband in July 2000. Survivors include a son, Jimmy Yoakam and wife Virginia of Amarillo; a daughter, Donna Johnson of Amarillo; two sisters, Ruby Moody of Amarillo and Mary Pickering of Sterling, Colo.; two grandchildren, Rusty Yoakam and Jeannie Graham and husband Nate, all of Amarillo; three great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and another great-great-granddaughter expected in September. Amarillo Globe-News, July 2, 2006 ======================================================================== Don Gardner Don Gardner, 84, of Amarillo died Thursday, June 29, 2006. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Cherokee City Cemetery in Cherokee, Okla., with the Rev. Kyle Gardner officiating. A tribute to Don's life will be held Aug. 12 - his 63rd wedding anniversary - at Westcliff Bible Church. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Gardner was born March 4, 1922, in Alva, Okla., to Gaynell and Vance Gardner. He and his two brothers grew up in Alva. He married Barbara Newlin of Cherokee in Hugo, Okla., on Aug. 12, 1943. Mr. Gardner served as a tank driver in Gen. Patton's 47th Armored Division in World War II. After his discharge from the Army, he completed his college degree at Northwestern State Teachers College, now Northwestern State University. He began his career in Hazleton, Kan., serving as a football, basketball and track coach and occasionally as the team bus driver. Eight years later, after completing a master's degree from Oklahoma University, he came to Amarillo to serve as the football coach at Austin Junior High. He went on to be the tennis coach at Tascosa High School. Mr. Gardner finished his teaching career as an administrator at Bowie and Travis Junior High schools. Don enjoyed refereeing football and basketball games in the region and also refereeing Southwest Conference games. He was a member of Westcliff Bible Church. We have seen and felt God's love and God's hand in these days of Don's struggles to live. We do love and appreciate each one of you. He was preceded in death by his father; his mother; and two brothers. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ron Gardner and wife Candy of Southlake, Tom Gardner and wife Carol of Dallas and Kyle Gardner and wife Su of Niles, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Beth Comoglio, Geoff Gardner, Josh Gardner, Pete Gardner, Jill House, Anastasia Beezley, Christine Gardner Keel and Chris Gardner; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors who cared for Don more than he knew. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with Regi Fowler, pastor, and Roy Wheeler, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Duncan was born Oct. 16, 1944, in Hereford. He moved to Amarillo as a small child and lived in Amarillo most of his life. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1963 and attended West Texas State University. He received a diploma in industrial and military electronics from the National Radio Institute in 1970. He worked for IBM as a customer service engineer from 1969 until his retirement in 2000. He worked from home for the past five years as a field inspector for several companies. He married Sandy Roush Williams in Amarillo in 1996. He was very involved with Meals On Wheels and delivered meals for the past eight years. He was a member of Toastmasters for several years and received many awards for public speaking. Carl was an avid reader and a gifted artist in both oil and acrylic painting. He enjoyed music and live theater and had season memberships to the Amarillo Symphony, Broadway Spotlight Series and Amarillo Little Theatre. He loved to drive and travel and had been to 49 of the 50 United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and New Zealand. He was a gifted photographer, was known as "Mister Fix-It" and loved animals and everything in nature. He was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church and New Beginnings Sunday school class. The family wishes to thank the church staff, church members and friends who have been so supportive during this difficult time. She was a unit clerk of rehabilitation units at both St. Anthony's and later Baptist St. Anthony's hospitals. She was an avid reader. Her favorite hobby was crocheting. She loved her family and her husband of 53 years as well as taking care of people. She was a member of West Amarillo Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Burt and Ed; and a sister, Ethel. She was a member of United Pentecostal Church for more than 75 years. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Harry Dale Henson; a grandson, Kelly Henson; five sisters; and three brothers. He was truly a gift from God. He brought so much joy into our lives. He had a heart as big as Texas. He loved everyone and was always there for anyone who needed anything. He had such a kind spirit. He loved riding motorcycles with his granddaddy, camping, being in the mountains and anything else the world had to offer. Rest well my precious son, you are at peace now. You were and forever will be loved and missed. He was preceded in death by his granddaddy, J.R. Horne, whom he loved tremendously. She graduated from Goodnight High School in 1941. She married Paul D. Talley in Amarillo in 1947. She was a homemaker for many years and also worked in the employeeÕs nursery at High Plains Baptist Hospital for several years. She had a special way with children. She later moved to central supply at High Plains and also worked at the Osteopathic Hospital. She was a longtime member of Fairview Baptist Church, now Southeast Baptist Church, where she taught nursery and worked with children for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Lee Shores and Clara Shores; four sisters, Ruth Matheson, Helen McDowell, Eunice Morris and Inez Shores; and a brother, Alba Shores. Mr. Gafford was born Oct. 8, 1922, in Turkey. He grew up there and graduated from Turkey High School in 1941. He married Margie Huckaby on April 26, 1942, in Amarillo. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He returned to Turkey and farmed and served as U.S. Postmaster there for several years before moving to Floydada in 1966. He worked as a rural mail carrier until retiring after 36 years with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Turkey. He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 7, 2002. Survivors include a daughter, Rhenda Burson and husband Jimmy of Silverton; a son, Larry Gafford and wife Kathy of Amarillo; a sister, Jo Copeland of Lubbock; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
