Mr. Rodriquez was born Jan. 26, 1948, outside the city of Morton to Charles and Cruz Rodriquez. He was raised in Brownfield, but moved to Amarillo in 1996. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Amarillo South Church with Charlie Cox officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Michael was born Jan. 25, 1966, in Spearman and raised in Amarillo. He attended Caprock High School and was a member of Grace Community Church. He was employed as a master trim carpenter most of his adult life and also lived in California for several years. Michael loved to spend time with his family and friends and enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, camping and skiing. During his time in California, he was an avid surfer. Survivors include his fiancee, Edna Hawkins of Amarillo; a son, Justin Babcock of San Diego; his father, Burl Babcock; his mother, Sybil Adcox; three brothers, Ben Whipkey, Robert Whipkey and Dale Whipkey, all of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Amanda Parish of Amarillo; a stepson, James Clark of Amarillo; and a granddaughter, Katelynn Clark of Amarillo. Amarillo Globe-News, July 4, 2006 ======================================================================== Riley S. Poindexter Riley S. Poindexter, 82, of Amarillo died Monday, July 2, 2006. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery East Mausoleum Chapel with Bob Crass of Central Church of Christ officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Poindexter was born in Celina, Tenn., and had been a resident of Amarillo since 1950. He was the chef and restaurant manager for the Crossroads Restaurant. Mr. Poindexter served with the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine during World War II. He was a member of Central Church of Christ. He married Hazel Poindexter on Oct. 28, 1958. She preceded him in death on April 5, 1993. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Riley Poindexter on May 25, 2005. Survivors include two sons, Ricky Poindexter and wife Laura of Amarillo and Steven Poindexter and wife Sharon of Edgewood, N.M.; two daughters, Teresa Nelson and husband Steve of Amarillo and Brendia Sloan of Pueblo, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in South Georgia Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Miller and the Rev. Robert Field officiating. Arrangements are by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Russell Cemetery in Belleville, Ark.. Arkansas arrangements are by Mike Cornwell Funeral Home in Danville, Ark. Mr. Bull was born Sept. 22, 1928, in Belleville, was raised in Belleville and moved to Amarillo from Little Rock, Ark., in 1993. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served four years during the Korean conflict. After the service, he worked for Worthen National Bank in Little Rock for 20 years before going to work for the state of Arkansas as a supervisor in the payroll and distributions department. He retired from the state in 1993 after 23 years of service. He married his high school sweetheart, Sarah Hicks, in 1993 in Booneville, Ark. He was a Mason and had received his 50-year pin. Mr. Bull was a longtime bowler and was chaplain of the Seniors Bowling League and former member of the National Amateur Bowlers Association. He was ordained as a deacon in the Baptist church in 1964, and was ordained as a minister in 2002. He was active in prison ministry in Arkansas as well as Amarillo. Other than his strong faith in God, music played an enormous role in his life and career. He sang lead vocals with The Believers, a gospel group out of Booneville. As well as singing, he played several different musical instruments. He played concerts, church revivals and secular venues for many years making 12 different cassette tapes as well as five CDs. He was a member of Singing Men of Texas and had been singing and playing gospel music for more than 50 years. His goal was to show Jesus through his music. He was a member of South Georgia Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Maudie Black Bull. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Bull of Amarillo; a daughter, Ramona Jean Thompson of North Little Rock, Ark.; a son, Michael David Bull and wife Tammie of North Little Rock; three stepdaughters, Debbie Gillispie and Sharon McLaughlin, both of Amarillo, and Betty Collins of Fritch; a sister, Ruby Duggar of Plainview, Ark.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 16, 1923, in Columbus, Miss., to James Boucher and Iven Randall Boucher. She retired from the Veterans Administration as the chief of purchasing and contracting. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association for 30 years. She and her husband, Joe Smith Jr., were married 61 years. She was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. She graduated from McLean High School. She married Earnest Albert Stocker on Dec. 31, 1939, in Amarillo and was a full-time homemaker. She was preceded in death by six sisters; a son, Daniel Leo Stocker; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Byrd TULIA - Wylie A. Byrd, 84, died Saturday, July 1, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the J.W. Byrd Home Place, 12 miles east of Interstate 27 on Farm-to-Market Road 285. Burial will follow in Wayside Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Mr. Byrd was born May 5, 1922, in the Wayside area to J.W and Julia Byrd. He attended Wayside schools. He married Billie Harral on Aug. 25, 1941. They moved northeast of Tulia, where he was active in farming and ranching. In 1957 he began manufacturing a machine to pick up down crops, the Roll-A-Cone, which is still made today. The business grew to include large tillage and other farm equipment and is still operated by the second and third generation today. He was also known for his metal frame houses. He was active in his farming and business until he was almost 80 years of age, when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Survivors include his wife of almost 65 years, Billie Byrd of Tulia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Pat Byrd and Joe Lynn and Julie Byrd, all of Tulia; four daughters and sons-in-law, Freva and Don Adams, Wyla and Ed Miller, Kylene and Ron Miller and Dera and Paul Rousseau, all of Tulia; two sisters, Esther Quarnstrom of Amarillo and Lorene Visser of Bertram; a brother, Earl Byrd of Tucson, Ariz.; 23 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
