Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church of Keller. Burial will be in Friona Cemetery in Friona by Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel of Fort Worth. Beulah Mae Deaton, 91, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2006, ending a life of devotion to family and faithfulness to God. Beulah Mae was born Oct. 11, 1914, to Glen and Bettie McCrate just as World War I began. In 1919, the flu pandemic spreading around the world took the life of her 1-year-old baby sister. Both scarlet fever and rheumatic fever were common childhood illnesses in the 1920s and she had both, as well as smallpox. She moved to the small farm community of Black in the early '20s. Beulah Mae married Kermie Deaton in 1929 when she was just barely 15 years old - two days after the stock market crashed. During the first decade of their marriage, the nation was gripped in the clutches of the Great Depression. Also, during the '30s, there was a severe drought across the Plains, known as the Dust Bowl. The '40s brought World War II. Family ties became stronger and people working together helped defeat these great challenges. Beulah Mae Deaton was a kindhearted woman, who raised her family with love, getting things done, helping others and using her creative gifts to make a home filled with music and laughter. Her tender heart, ready smile and sense of humor impacted so many with her personality and her character. She exhibited faithfulness to God and integrity toward her fellow man. Musically talented, she taught herself to play the piano by watching the keys of a player piano. She was a gifted artist who did oil painting, china painting, assorted arts and crafts, crocheting, copper work, embroidery and quilting. The testimony of her life leaves a rich legacy for her friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Bettie McCrate; two brothers, Woodrow McCrate and Paul McCrate; her husband, Kermie Deaton; a daughter, Bettie Temora Buck; a son-in-law, Keith Duderstadt; and a granddaughter, Dianne Martin.
