Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 29, 1931, in DeQueen, Ark., to David Higgins and Illa Christine Snyder Higgins. She married Aaron Smith on March 10, 1953, in Albuquerque, N.M. She was a dietary manager for a nursing home. She attended art school before serving in the U.S. Army as a surgical nurse stationed at West Point, N.Y. She retired from High Plains Baptist Hospital (BSA) in 1998 after more than 20 years of service as a surgical nurse. Pat was a loving mother and friend who touched many lives, and will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Harrison; her parents, Bartholomew and Grace Sughrue; and brothers, Bart, Dennis, Peter and Timothy. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Lewis was born in Elgin, and had lived in Amarillo for 40 years before moving to Madill, Okla. He married Dorothy Washer on Oct. 3, 1940. Mr. Lewis was a longtime member of The Lighthouse Church before moving to Oklahoma. He retired from Pantex and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He volunteered in the church's food program. He was also a Mason. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by a son, Darrell; and all of his siblings. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Ann Killingsworth and husband of Wheeler; a son, Eddie Morris of Tyler; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Romero was born April 27, 1931, in San Arita, Calif., and moved to Amarillo in 1958 from California. She married Ricky Romero in 1949 in Fontana, Calif. He passed away in January. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She supported her husband in his travels as a professional wrestler and took wonderful care of their home and their six children. She was also preceded in death by a son, Steve Romero (Jay Youngblood), in 1985. Mrs. Preston was born in Riverton, Wyo. She had an extensive background that includes real estate brokerage, the hotel business, teaching and radio broadcasting. Priscilla was the director of sales and marketing for the Sheraton. She was a corporate sales representative for the Amarillo Hilton Inn and the director of sales for the Amarillo Ramada Inn. She was a former member of the Amarillo Women's Network, Hotel Sales and Management Association, Amarillo Board of Realtors, Beta Sigma Phi International and the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, where she was on the membership relations committee. She was an international pharmaceutical representative and former marketing director for the American Heart Association in Denver. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bette Ruth Champ Mirabal in 1992 and Thomas Valentine Mirabal in 2001; two brothers, Michael Mirabal in 1967 and Thomas Mirabal in 2002; and a sister, Ann Wickline in 1993. Amarillo Globe-News, July 16, 2006 ======================================================================== Robert Lewis "Bob" Saunders Robert Lewis "Bob" Saunders, 77, of Amarillo died Thursday, July 13, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Winfred Moore officiating. Private family burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Bob was born May 28, 1929, in Franklin, Ky., was raised there and graduated from Franklin-Simpson High School. He received his industrial engineering degree from Tennessee Tech. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He married Mary Ann Smith on April 3, 1952, in Lebanon, Tenn. He began his career in the aerospace industry in 1952. He entered the Air Force Reserve in 1955 and served in Japan, leaving as a captain in 1956. Going back into the aerospace industry, he worked with Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa, Okla. In 1957, he was hired by Taylor Instruments and began a career in industrial automation. Taylor Instruments moved him from Tulsa to Amarillo in 1958, and he continued to work for them in Amarillo for 28 years, retiring in 1986. Not missing a day of work, he subsequently worked for Smith-Thompson Inc. from 1986 until retiring in 2003. He continued as an independent consultant until the time of his death. In 1958 he joined First Baptist Church, where he served in many areas including deacon, Sunday school director, Sunday school teacher and the television/broadcast ministry. He, along with his wife, Mary Ann, worked in the Children's Ministry at the church for many years. He volunteered at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospital from 2003 until the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Addie Saunders; and a sister, Elnora Dunn. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of Amarillo; three sons, Thomas William Saunders III and wife Vickie of Colorado Springs, Colo., Edwin Lewis Saunders and wife Alice of Portland and Andrew Nelson Saunders and wife Sharla of Colorado Springs; and nine grandchildren, Rutledge, Elizabeth, Edison, Paul, Rebecca, Ian, Robert, Annie and Alex. Amarillo Globe-News, July 16, 2006 ======================================================================== P.B. Taylor P.B. Taylor, 93, of Amarillo died Thursday, July 13, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with Mark Zimmerman and Bob Schroeder, pastors, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Taylor was born March 22, 1913, in Celina. He owned and operated Western Fence Co. P.B. graduated from Celina High School, where he played end on the football team. He enjoyed all sports and loved to play golf throughout his life. He moved to Amarillo about 1931 and went to work for his brother, Edgar, who owned Taylor's Market on Taylor Street. He later went to work at Pinkney Packing Co., where he met and married Margie Gristy. They were married for 62 years. After her death he married longtime friend, Louise Blaker. After working at Pickney Packing Co., he went to work for Curtis Candy Co., and soon after, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. He received a Purple Heart after he was wounded in action in France. After serving in the Army, he returned to Amarillo and continued to work for Curtis Candy Co., but eventually bought and owned P.B.'s Drive-In and Cafe on SixthAvenue. P.B. bought Western Fence Co. while he and his wife, Margie, ran the drive-in for several more years. He continued to own andoperated Western Fence and later went into partnership with Fred Carter until P.B. retired in 1977. P.B. was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church and The Lamplighters Sunday school class. He was a member of Khiva Temple of Shrine, Khiva Patrol and the Masonic Lodge. He was one of the original men who went into partnership to develop Lake Tanglewood, originally called Stockton Lake. He moved to Lake Tanglewood and lived there for many years. P.B. was very proud of his family, which he enjoyed very much. He left a great legacy to family for his strong work ethic and smart business sense. He was articulate and very sharp-minded to the very end. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Taylor, in 1977; and a daughter, Joyce Morton, in 1979. Georgia St. Mr. Witt was born Jan. 3, 1912, in Danville, Va., to Anthony Witt of Austria and Anna Burke of Boston. He graduated from high school in Posen, Germany. He attended Duke University and Boston University. At the latter he studied hotel and restaurant operations. His professional life was spent in this field, owning inns and restaurants. In addition he worked for the large Statler-Hiltons in Chicago and Boston. He and his wife, Paula, were part of the start-up management teams of Holiday Inns of America. He married Paula Harrell of Cherokee, Ala. They had a daughter, Phyllis Payne of Amarillo. He had a son, David, by a previous marriage. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David; two brothers; two sisters; and two stepchildren. Services will be at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in Church of Christ in Claude with Kent Watson, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mauvine was born Feb. 15, 1921, in Claude, the first child of Paul and Edna Hood. She graduated from Claude High School in 1938 and attended Abilene Christian College. During World War II, she was a WAC in the Women's Army Corps stationed in Jacksonville, Fla., and in Fort Myers, Fla. She married John Michael Chamales on Sept. 26, 1943, in Claude, and in June of 1945, she gave birth to their only child. In the fall 1946, they moved to South Dakota, where they farmed and ranched nine miles east of Pierre. In 1951, they moved west of Hugo, Okla., and ranched there until 1962. In June of 1962, they moved back to Claude, abiding there until 2000, then moving to Lubbock. She was a member of the Church of Christ all her life. She was preceded in death by her parents. Hall, 60, a Realtor, teamed up with the Lord Thursday, July 13, 2006, and is free to ride the range. John D. Hall was born March 6, 1946, to Jack and Marjorie Hall. He attended Paschal High and graduated from Texas Tech University, where he was in the Rodeo Club, with a degree in agricultural business. He was a member of University Christian Church, the Petroleum Club and Glen Garden Country Club. He loved the Western way of life. He was a longtime employee of M L Leddy's Boot and Saddlery in Fort Worth and San Angelo. He had oil and gas, cattle and real estate interests throughout West Texas. He was an avid golfer. He behaved in the old-time way, and lived by a high moral code. His many friends will miss him. He was preceded in death by parents; and an uncle and aunt, Flem and Lucille Hall.
