Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Hobbs Plaza, 4000-B W. 58th Ave. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Carter was born May 15, 1940, in Clarendon to Roy L. and Mildred Jackson Carter. He was employed by U.S. Securities Inc. in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Christopher W. Carter; and a stepdaughter, Pamela Lea Copeland. Survivors include his beloved wife, Pat Carter; a daughter, Kelly Carter of Amarillo; a brother, Jackson Carter and wife Teresa of Allardt, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Julie Sillivent and husband Cliff of Amarillo; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two nephews; a niece; and a great-niece. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Farmington, N.M. with Jack Wheat officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon and Cope Funeral Home of Farmington. Earl Gerome Goodwin Jr. was born Aug. 16, 1929, in Springfield, Colo., to Margaret McArthur and Earl Gerome Goodwin Sr. He lived in Farmington for years before moving to Amarillo in April 1999. He graduated from North Avondale High School in Colorado and attended West Texas State in Canyon. Earl retired from El Paso Natural Gas after 30 years in Farmington. Survivors include four sons, Danny Goodwin and wife Chris of Gilbert, Ariz., Dennis Goodwin and wife Ilene of Roswell, N.M., Daryl Goodwin of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kelly Goodwin and wife Carolyn of Rifle, Colo.; a daughter, Debra Hurfford of Farmington; a brother, Myrl Goodwin and wife Pam of Canyon; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a member of Sunray Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Gordon Taylor, Gene Taylor and Ronnie Taylor; and a sister, Evelyn Young. She enjoyed oil wall painting and was a member of First Baptist Church of Aiken. Sidney Preston Burgess was born Sept. 10, 1918, in Happy to John Burgess and Sallie Crawford Burgess-Willson. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from West Texas State in 1939 and his MS in Greeley, Colo. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as specialist T in the U.S. Navy. He married Elloese Stevens on Dec. 24, 1941, in Butler, Okla. Sidney was a teacher from 1939 through 1979. He was a lifetime member of Presbyterian Church in Canyon. He was a Scout Leader, an elder in the church, on the board of trustees and on the building committee. He was also a member of the Lions Club from 1946 through 1960. Survivors include his wife, Elloese Stevens Burgess; a daughter, Linda Hicks and husband Jay of Charlottesville, Va.; a son, Steve Burgess and wife Jeannie of Shreveport, La.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Winston Burgess of Amarillo; and a sister, Estelle Parken of Augusta, Ga.
