Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Monsignor Harold Waldow celebrating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Addie De Rose Wittenburg Belcheff, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at her home in Amarillo surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. De Rose was born July 2, 1931, in Georgetown, spending her childhood in Lometa and graduating from Lometa High School. She attended Incarnate Word College and graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in home economics. As an incredibly beautiful and intelligent young woman at Tech, she was chosen Top Tech Beauty and also South Plains Maid of Cotton participating in national finals in Memphis, Tenn. While at Tech she met George Belcheff from Sofia, N.M., and they were married in 1952. She worked at SPS in Lubbock, KZIP radio in Amarillo and taught at St. Mary's School. A strong believer in education, she earned her master's degree in education-psychology at West Texas State University. De Rose initiated and developed special education programs for the Texas Education Agency. She spent most of her teaching career at River Road High School as a special education resource teacher, and served on the district's advisory committee. Her accomplishments include the invention of assistance equipment for the physically disadvantaged, completion of the Leadership Amarillo Program, the North Plains A.C.L.D. and Teacher of the Year award. During her teaching years, she accomplished another dream by designing and building her mountain sanctuary, a family cabin in Angel Fire, N.M. There, she was able to regularly gather her growing family for holidays and retreats, holding her annual Grandma's summer camps for her ever-expanding number of grandchildren. She retired from teaching, but never retired from being the Christian example for the next generation of her family, friends and students. De Rose never met a stranger. Her optimistic and cheerful attitude graced everyone who knew her. Her selflessness for her family and students will undoubtedly be the grace that rewards her soul with eternity in heaven, where she once again will be embraced by her loving parents and brother until her family can join her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Inez Wittenburg; and a brother, Odus Wittenburg of San Angelo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Stephen United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Smith officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Harris was born in Tulia. He graduated from Kress High School and West Texas State University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta. He married Terri Lynn Cox in Pampa in 1978. Mr. Harris was the founder of Harris Financial Group Inc. He was also a full-time agent and senior partner of the New England Financial Dallas Agency, where he was a top producer of both the agency and the company on a national level. Mr. Harris had been in the financial services profession for 31 years and had been with New England Financial since 1988, where he served on numerous boards. Terry was a Chartered Life Underwriter and Financial Consultant. Terry worked extensively with cooperatives in Texas and with parents and guardians of children with special needs. He was currently serving as a board member of the Amarillo Area Estate Planning Council. He was chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Business Council and served on the city of Amarillo's Planning and Zoning Commission. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Second Baptist Church with the Rev. George Haddox officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Costas was born Jan. 27, 1938, in Philadelphia to Albanian immigrants, George and Maria Costas. He went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 25, 2006. He was raised in Philadelphia and had been a resident of Amarillo for more than 40 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a paratrooper in the Korean conflict. He was a commercial painter in Amarillo for many years. He worked for Consolidated Paint Contractors and owned and operated Dan Costas Paint contractors. He worked for Page & Associates General Contractors, where he worked at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch for 15 years. After retiring, he continued working for Hatcher Painting and did other jobs on his own. He was proud of his Greek heritage and was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church for many years. He was also a member of Second Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Samaritan Sunday school class. He was active with the Amarillo Jaycees for many years. He was a loving husband and father and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary Spiro. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Cody McCain and Charlie Malmberg officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home. Albert was born Jan. 10, 1930, in Matador to Mack Darrell and Ida Ozborn Marshall. He grew up in Matador and graduated high school with the Matador class of 1947. He was a lifetime resident of Motley and Cottle counties. Albert later joined the U.S. Army and served our country while stationed in Germany. After his time in the Army, Albert went to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He retired from the USDA as a district director after 42 years of service. On Aug. 3, 1975, Albert married LaWanda Moss in Lubbock. He was a member of Paducah First Baptist Church and also a Mason. Albert received his 50-year Masonic Lodge pin several years ago. He also served as the Democratic chairman of Cottle County for 10 years. Albert was a hard-working man who still managed to find the time to contribute to his community. He will be missed by all who knew him and especially by his family that he loved so much. Amarillo Globe-News, July 28, 2006 ======================================================================== Shelby Lee Baker Sr. DUMAS - Shelby Lee Baker Sr., 86, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Don Poole, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Hartley Cemetery in Hartley with military rites by the American Legion of Dumas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas. Shelby was born Feb. 4, 1920, in Olustee, Okla. He moved to Hale Center at an early age and lived there until he entered the Air Force on Dec. 8, 1941. He served in the 12th Air Force 47th Bomb Squadron for nearly four years in the European Theater, where he participated in 62 missions as a flight engineer and a tail gunner. He married Jean E. Friedmann on May 9, 1946. They were married 60 years. Mr. Baker farmed for 37 years, most of the time on the north plains, in Dallam, Moore and Sherman counties. He also farmed the home farm in Hale County. He served as a director of civil defense at Hale Center in 1957, when a tornado hit the town, and worked extensively for American Agriculture in Dalhart. Mr. Baker was a life member of VFW Post 9022, a member of Friends of the Library and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, all in Dumas. He was a member of the Lions Club in Hartley and any other organization where he felt he could be of service. Shelby and his wife retired from farming in 1979, and he used his expertise as a farm consultant. He worked five years in Saudi Arabia raising wheat, a year in Africa raising corn and also spent four years selling farm equipment to Mexican farmers. He spent months at a time in Mexico teaching the use of the equipment he sold. He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma V. Woodard; his father, Homer Lee Baker; his stepfather, Gus W. Cox of Hale Center; and a 3-year-old granddaughter, Allison. Survivors include his wife, Jean; two sons, Dr. Terry Baker of New York and Shelby Baker Jr. of Wisconsin; a daughter, Trina Baker of Houston; five grandchildren, Deborah Landers of Atlanta, Alexandra Baker of New York, Kiersten Marie Fischer and Eric Fischer, both of Houston, and Brent Baker of Carrollton; and seven great-grandchildren. Ruby was born July 21, 1921, in Mena, Ark., to the late Dave and Bertha Heath Miller. She married Alfred Eugene Bebout on Nov. 23, 1972, in Plainview. Ruby was a resident of Bowie for the past 12 years after retiring in Amarillo. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
