Mrs. Cartwright was born Jan. 3, 1938, in Seymour and was a resident of Canyon before moving to Claude 36 years ago. She married John Edwin Cartwright on Feb. 2, 1957, in Canyon. She was the Armstrong County Justice of the Peace for 21 years before her retirement in 1998. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Claude. Mr. Ramon was born April 8, 1932, in St. Francis to Ignacia Avila Ramon and Zaragoza Gonzales Ramon. He had lived in Stratford since 1940 and was known as "The Happy Painter," being a self-employed painter by trade. Gordie was a poet and permanent fixture in the community. He was a devout Christian and had been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1946. He was preceded in death by a brother, Zaragoza Ramon, and a sister, Pat Matherly. Mrs. Looby went to be with the Lord as his tears rained down on Dalhart at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2006. Nancy Ann Knapp was born Nov. 26, 1946, in Gloversville, N.Y., to Jack and Alice Thompson Knapp. Her parents both served in the U.S. Army and came to Dalhart when Nancy was a very small child. Nancy attended schools in Dalhart. She and Randy Looby were married on June 15, 1996, at the Lutheran Church in Dalhart. She will be remembered by many as the Panhandle Transit driver, which she had driven for more than 13 years. She also worked at the movie theater for several years and also for Coronado Feeders and Smith Trucking. Nancy was an outdoor type and enjoyed yard work and gardening. Family and friends will remember her as a people person who loved her job and would do anything for anybody, anytime! She was preceded in death by her parents. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in White Deer Cemetery in White Deer. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Don Shepherd officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Frederiksen was born Sept. 28, 1919, in Ashland, Kan., to Mary Helen Major and Onia Robert Major. She was raised in White Deer and met Ivan Frederiksen of Groom, whom she married on Jan. 29, 1939. Together they had three sons, Gary Bruce, Theodore Gene and Paul Earl. Dorothy Jean's life was filled with music. She could play piano, organ, trumpet, guitar, accordion and even ocarina. She played basketball at White Deer High School and also played trumpet in the marching band. It was through the band that she met Ivan who was in the Groom High School band. She taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school and was an active member of church choirs, including the Sanctuary Choir of First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo. She was a member of the Amarillo Chapter of Sweet Adelines, singing in the chorus and several quartets, one of which received honorable mention in a competition in Houston. She was a member of the Carol Lynn Singers and the Amarillo Civic Opera Chorus. Dorothy Jean served as the president of the McDowell Music Club, the Philomathic Music Club and the Women's Federated Clubs of Amarillo. Dorothy Jean was a wonderful cook and homemaker. At one time, she owned one of the largest, if not the largest, collection of cookbooks in the Panhandle. She had several recipes which were her original creations, some of which appeared in the Presbyterian Women's Cookbook at First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, and two sons, Bruce and Ted. Survivors include a brother, Ted Major of Levelland; a sister-in-law, Frances Major of Canorado, Kan.; a son, Paul and wife Nancy of Amarillo; two granddaughters; four grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
