Life celebration Mass will be at 2 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with Monsignor Rex Nicholl officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur St. Mr. Ballin was born May 19, 1946, in Amarillo to Estevan and Esperanza Ballin, and was a lifetime resident of Amarillo. He graduated from Caprock High School in 1963. He then joined the armed services, serving in the 25th Infantry during the Vietnam War at Dau Teng. After his honorable discharge as a specialist class 4, Mr. Ballin began a career in law enforcement that covered the Potter County Sheriff's Department as well as the Veterans Administration Medical Center, where he retired after more than 20 years of combined service. Along with his professional life, Mr. Ballin was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, raised a family and belonged to various groups and organizations that included the Knights of Columbus and the GI Forum, as well as volunteering at the VA hospital the past several years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Esperanza Leal Ballin. Survivors include his father, Estevan A. Ballin; three brothers, David Ballin of Dallas, Macario Ballin of Anaheim, Calif., and Armando Ballin of Amarillo; two sisters, Delia Rodriguez of Phoenix and Irma Arellano of Amarillo; the mother of his children, Amalia E. Thomas West "Tom" Fulks was born April 24, 1930, in Canadian to George and Janie West Fulks of Gageby. Tom graduated from Briscoe High School in Briscoe. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent most of his years in the military in Stuttgard, Germany. He worked as a farmer on the family farm. Survivors include three sisters, Dollie Fulks, Georgia Weathers and husband Ronnie and Shirley Neff and husband Carl, all of Amarillo; a nephew; four nieces; two great-nephews; four great-nieces; and a great-great-niece. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Hill was born Oct. 19, 1917, in Canyon and has lived in Amarillo since 1947. He married Mavis Harden in 1939 at Clovis, N.M. They were married for 56 years. He graduated from Canyon High School and West Texas State University, where he majored in industrial arts and earned a master of education degree. Mr. Hill taught school at Goodnight and Horace Mann Junior High School in Amarillo. He was assistant principal at Palo Duro High School from 1955 to 1969 and was the sponsor of the Palo Duro High School Key Club during those years. Mr. Hill was the assistant registrar and director of admissions at Amarillo College from 1969 until 1979. During World War II, Mr. Hill served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant in the Pacific. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo and a member of the North Amarillo Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis; and a son, Forest Hill, Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Maralyn Price and husband Dennis of Amarillo; four grandsons, Grant Price and wife Tasha, Stephen Price, Austin Price and wife Amber and Mark Price, all of Amarillo; and a great-grandson, Kason Price of Amarillo. Mrs. Vincent was born Nov. 11, 1914, in Amarillo to the pioneer family of Gertrude and Jeff Blackburn. She was an Amarillo High School graduate and a lifelong Amarillo resident. Her father, Jeff Blackburn was co-founder of Blackburn Brothers clothiers where she worked as a bookkeeper for many years. For many years she was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. She married H.C. Vincent in the early 1960s and he preceded her in death in the early 1980s. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude and Jeff Blackburn; and a brother, Henry Blackburn. Mrs. Narducci was born Dec. 25, 1912, in Little Italy, New York City and died Aug. 1, 2006, in Amarillo. One afternoon in 1932, in a New York diner, a beautiful young Sicilian girl locked eyes with a handsome Italian boy. A great love was born that day! After a 10-year engagement, Maria married Murray on April 26, 1942, in New York City; lasting 56 years, that love grew stronger every day. Grandma spent her life giving and loving. Her greatest love after her family was her cherished dolls. Everyone who met her became a grandchild in her heart, and she blessed each of them with a handmade doll. She will be greatly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her husband; four sisters; and two brothers. Survivors include two sons, Maurice Narducci and wife Deborah of Amarillo and Thomas Narducci and wife Ann of Great Easton, England; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Narducci of Dallas; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 4, 2006 ======================================================================== Canyon Sally Fugate Nester Sally Fugate Nester, 92, of Canyon died Wednesday, July 26, 2006. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Don McDonald officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Sally Nester was born Oct. 27, 1913, in Live Oak County. She graduated from Kingsville High School at the age of 16, and attended nursing school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where she received her degree. This was also where she met Charles R. Nester, and the couple was married in Houston in 1932. In 1948, the family moved to Canyon, where Mrs. Nester was very active in community and area activities. Mrs. Nester was a Sunday school teacher and youth advisor at the Presbyterian Church where she was also a member of the women's association and helped to create the Chrismon decorations and the "web" that adorns the church. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, and helped raise funds to build the Scout house in Canyon. She was instrumental in starting the Canyon troops' summer day camp. In recognition of her efforts, she was named Canyon's Citizen of the Year in 1967. She was recognized by the Amarillo Council of the Girls Scouts as a "Woman of Distinction" in 1996. She was a member of Canyon's Sewing Club and enjoyed hosting many of their Christmas and Fourth of July gatherings. She was a life member and early supporter of the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation. She helped to start a candy stripers' program at the local hospital in early 1960s. Mrs. Nester was superb role model to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and to young women who were Scouts. The family would like to extend special thanks to Cathy Oaks, Imogene Turner, Dora Lineman, and the entire staff of Hospice of the Southwest. She was preceded in death by her husband; two grandchildren; and a son-in-law. Born Nov. 19, 1927, Connie was the ninth of 10 children born to Floyd County pioneers Nellie Harper and Harvey Samuel Bolin. She attended schools in Plainview and graduated from Texas State College for Women in 1950. Connie married Charles L. Eubanks and moved to Amarillo in 1951. Professionally, she worked in the library system at Amarillo College for 20 years. Her last years were spent with family in Wichita Falls. Connie will best be remembered for her strong work ethic, unselfish nature, strength of character and love of friends and family. She loved the outdoors and possessed a true pioneer spirit. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Rolling Meadows for their dedication and love to Connie.
