She worked as a waitress and homemaker. She had a kind and giving heart. She loved her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She married Robert Crawford in 1960 in Clovis, N.M. He preceded her in death in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; a sister; and a grandchild. Brown on May 5, 1948, in Wheeler. He died in 1991. She graduated from WHS in 1948 and was a former member of the Wellington Country Club and the Kiwanis Club. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and First United Methodist Church. She retired as assistant cashier of Wellington State Bank in 1995. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Elbert Bettis. Georgia St. Mr. Bacon was born in Achille, Okla., to John Elliott Bacon and Marjorie Bacon. He served in the U.S. Army. He married the love of his life, Linda Crump, on April 4, 1964, in Dimmitt. Mr. Bacon was a farmer and truck driver until his retirement two years ago. He was preceded in death by his wife in April 2002 and a son, Terry Bacon, in January 2001. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 6, 2006 ======================================================================== Joe Storey Joe Storey, 93, of Amarillo died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Director Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Ochiltree Cemetery in Perryton. Mr. Storey was born April 2, 1913, in Amorita, Okla., to William Bill Storey and Ruth Monroe. He was an active member of the Amorita community. Joe had a twin brother, Kelley, and a big "Sis," Maymie. They all played musical instruments and were noted for their musical talents. He was well-known for his excellent fiddle music, but he also played the alto saxophone. He spent a lot of time playing the fiddle for the nursing homes in Amarillo. Music was a wonderful part of his life. His father, Bill, was born in Illinois then came to Amorita to make the Land Run of the 1893 opening of the Cherokee Strip. He staked a claim two miles north and one and a half miles west of Amorita. After staking the claim, he left a friend with a shotgun to protect the claim for him, while he rode horseback to Alva to file the claim for $5. Joe married Nellie Pendeel. She was the love of his life. Joe and Nellie moved to Perryton, where he bought some property, and they began their lives together. When they were first married, Joe won a trip to New York City in an alto saxophone competition, and that is where they spent their honeymoon. Nellie died when she was 44 years old after suffering heart failure. Joe then moved to Amarillo. While in Amarillo, he leased his farming property in Oklahoma and Perryton and spent a lot of his time playing the fiddle and enjoyed the company of his friends, neighbors and fellow musicians. Joe had no survivors. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Mr. Hampton, "Brother-in-Law," was born Sept. 25, 1941, in Vernon to Elzie and Beatrice Hampton. As a youth, he lived in several small West Texas towns before moving to Amarillo in 1953. He attended North Heights Elementary and Carver High School. He was a faithful member of New Light Ministries, serving as a deacon and choir member. He was a chef by trade and was sought by some of the finest restaurants in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife, Kirby Hampton; three sons, Christopher and wife Alandra of Albuquerque, N.M., and Carl and Frankie, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Cecelia Johnson and husband Kevin of Amarillo; four brothers, Nathan Hampton and wife Joyce of Cameron, Larry Hampton and wife Ann of Atlanta, Elzie Hampton Jr. of Snyder and Jesse Hampton of Amarillo; two sisters, Esther Henley and Wanda Henley, both of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Arden Road Baptist Church with Dale Bigham, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Wigington was born Aug. 16, 1925, in Brady to John J. and Gracie V. Wigington. He graduated from high school in Achille, Okla., and attended Frank Phillips College. In 1943, he entered into the U.S. Army and served during World War II. Life would change for him when he met the love of his life, Betty L. Floyd. They were married on Jan. 10, 1952, in Dumas. For more than 54 years, they celebrated their union. He retired from Phillips Petroleum as the laboratory supervisor after 34 years of employment, moving to Amarillo from Borger after his retirement. As a young adult, Mr. Wigington gave his life to Christ and faithfully served in the church throughout his life. Most recently an active member of Arden Road Baptist Church, he served there on the support staff for 10 years. He taught Sunday school classes to youth and adults for at least 53 years and enjoyed singing in the choir or leading the music for many of those same years. In fact, he taught Sunday school up until March of this year. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; three brothers; and a daughter, Paula Jeanine. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Charmaine Holmes and husband Ken of Amarillo and Delaine Hobart of Austin; six grandchildren, Scott Holmes, Brad Holmes and wife Suzanne Holmes, Jeanine Hobart, Jeffrey Hobart and Joshua Hobart; a great-grandson, Brady Holmes; and many loving nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 6, 2006 ======================================================================== Agnes Edmunds Fitz ARNETT, OKLA. - Agnes Edmunds Fitz, 89, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006. Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Shaw Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Debolt Cemetery. Mrs. Fitz was born Dec. 2, 1916, on a farm near Glasgow, Ky., the third of four daughters to the late Chase and Lou Ella Emerson Edmunds. Agnes attended grade school and high school in Glasgow. She attended Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College, now Eastern Kentucky State University, in Richmond, Ky., where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and journalism in 1939. On Aug. 29, 1939, in Richmond, Agnes was united in marriage with Dord Edward Fritz. She and Dord lived in Richmond and Colorado Springs, Colo., during World War II. In 1947, they moved to Lexington, Ky., where Dord was a professor of art at the University of Kentucky. In the summer of 1951, Agnes, Dord and their three children, Brewster Edmunds Fitz, Carolyn Emerson Fitz and Dale Edward Fitz, moved to a ranch in Ellis County, about 20 miles south of Shattuck. There, she was homemaker, rancher and recordkeeper for Dord, who had an art gallery in Amarillo, Texas. In the summer of 1956, Agnes earned a teaching certificate. She was an English teacher at Arnett High School during the 1956-1957 school year. Agnes was fond of reading biographies, novels, poetry and history. She was an admirer of Oliver Wendell Holmes, Harry S. Truman and John F. Kennedy. She was an avid Scrabble player. She enjoyed travel in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Greece and Egypt. She was active in the Federated Women's Club and Democratic Party of Oklahoma. After Dord's death in 1989, Agnes lived on the ranch until 1996, when she moved to Golden Oaks Village in Stillwater. Survivors include a sister, Lucy Edmunds Harvey of Clearwater, Fla.; a niece, Marjorie Ann Wade of Clarksville, Tenn.; two sons, Brewster Edmunds Fitz of Stillwater and Dale Edward Fitz of Houston; a daughter, Carolyn Emerson Fitz of Sewanee, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Vello E. On Saturday, June 3, 2006, we were blessed with the arrival ofour son, Gabriel Kaden Fox. He was born at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound, 13 ounces and measuring 13 inches long. He spent his days with us at the Medical Center of Plano Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, fighting for his life. On Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, exactly two months after his arrival, the fight became too hard. Reluctantly and with heavy hearts, we had to say goodbye to our sweet little boy. It was time for our angel to join the other angels. He finally went home to be with our heavenly father. His time with us was short, but in that time, this little boy was able to touch so many lives. We will all miss him so much, and there will never be another like him. Rest in peace our sweet little angel, Mommy and Daddy love you!
