Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Llano Cemetery with Pat Clark, church reader of First Church of Christ, Scientist, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. She married A.C. Burleson on May 31, 1939, in Canyon. She owned and operated her own beauty salon for about three years and then opened and operated her own gift shop. She really enjoyed her trips to Dallas, where she would go to market and shop. She was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist. Survivors include her husband, A.C. Arrangements are by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Benny was born March 26, 1944, in Amarillo. He was a graduate of Palo Duro High School, and attended Draughons Business College and Amarillo College. While at Draughons, he met Blanche Thomas and they married on Jan. 15, 1972. Benny served two tours in Vietnam. He served his first as a U.S. Navy Seabee, and the second on the specially selected Seabee team. He was a member of Carpenters Local 665 as a millwright, and was host of "The Morning Coffee Club" that gathered at his house daily. Benny loved to bass fish and hunt. He also enjoyed giving others a hard time, and spoiling his dog, Hondo. Benny was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife; a son, Eric Swires of Amarillo; two granddaughters, Whittney and Gracie Swires, both of Amarillo; his dog, Hondo of Amarillo; and a host of friends who cared for him greatly. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church with Darrel D. Fincher, pastor, as eulogist and the Rev. Roger Battle officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Mrs. Versie "Honey Bunch" Alford Moore-Skinner was born Oct. 1, 1940, to the parentage of the late Delbert "Del" and Nina Alford in Clarksville, Red River County. The third of four daughters, she grew up and attended public schools in Clarksville and confessed her faith at an early age, uniting with Bryarly Baptist Church in Clarksville. She married Otis Moore in July 1957, and to this union one son was born. The family moved to Amarillo in December 1961, and she began attending Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church, uniting with the church in early 1963. Through the years, Mrs. Skinner was a faithful servant at Jenkins Chapel in the Women's Missionary Society, where she served as devotion chair for many years, and worked in the Ruth Circle, serving as treasurer. She worked in Sunday school and BTU/NBC and served as secretary of NBC. She was a member of the Amarillo Christian Council for more than 30 years; but the church work that she cherished most was being an usher. Mrs. Skinner served on the JCBC usher board for more than 40 years, and was also a member of the City Wide Ushers, where she served churches and funeral directors, working at funerals throughout the community. Bereaved families and funeral directors requested her services for many years because of the "special traits" she possessed as an usher. Mrs. Skinner was a member of the Pastoral Care Committee and worked on various committees over the years for annual programs at the church. She was well- known for her abilities as a fundraiser for special programs, and she received several awards for her contributions in raising funds for both the church and pastors. In 1962, she was united in marriage to Willie James "John" Skinner Sr., and to this union one son was born. She was preceded in death by her husband in May 2004; a son, Willie James "Babyson" Skinner Jr. in August 1984; her father in April 1992; her eldest sister, Valene Mims in January 1986; a nephew, Michael Paul Brown in May 1989; and her mother, just six months ago, in February 2006. Survivors she leaves to cherish her memory include a son, Delbert "D.L." Moore of Amarillo; two sisters, Pearlene Brown and Lillie P. Miller, both of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Chrystal Moore of Amarillo; three nephews, Leroy Mims Jr. and Joel E. Mrs. Whitfield was born Ethel Margaret Carter on Nov. 25, 1916, in Quay County, N.M. She attended West Texas State University and graduated in 1938 with a business education degree. She married C.G. "Glenn" Whitfield on Oct. 22, 1939. A resident in Amarillo for most of her adult life, she was a homemaker. Besides being devoted to her family, she enjoyed her volunteer work with the Northwest Texas Hospital Auxiliary and First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Mildred Carroll Circle. Ethel was a loving mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She greatly appreciated all the attention shown her these last few months by her caregivers that include Iris, Lisa, Corina, Barbara, Liz, the staff of Odyssey Hospice and her very special niece, Bobbie Broussard, of Baton Rouge, La. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002; and an infant son, Ronald, in 1940. Survivors include a son, Michael and wife Nadia of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Debra Burton and husband David; a grandson, Nathan Burton; a granddaughter, Sarah Cline and husband Matthew; two great-grandchildren, Daisy and Jacob Burton of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews; all were very dear to her heart. Mr. Huffaker died Saturday after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Huffaker was the son of the late Calloway and Nina Huffaker of Tahoka. He graduated from Tahoka High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in accounting from Texas Tech University. He then received the degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence in Law from the University of Texas. Returning to Tahoka, he joined his father and Harold Green in the law firm of Huffaker, Green and Huffaker. In 1968, he married Linda Cribbs in Throckmorton. Mr. Huffaker was a trial attorney, cotton farmer, cattle rancher and businessman. He was a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, a member of the Lubbock Bar Bankruptcy Association, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the State Bar of Texas Grievance Committee and the State Bar Committee for Unauthorized Practice of Law. He was past president of the Tahoka Rotary Club, past director of the South Plains District Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Red Raider Club and a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Tahoka. Mr. Huffaker loved fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He also held an ardent belief in the importance of education, which led to his founding of the Huffaker & Green Scholarship and the Linda & Gerald Huffaker Scholarship for Tahoka High School students. He was also a longtime contributor to the Red Raider Club and was a dedicated supporter of the Red Raiders.
