Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Day, of Columbus, formerly of Amarillo, where she had resided for 63 years, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, from a heart condition in Columbus. Ersey was born Dec. 9, 1920, in Rule. She moved to Littlefield at age 4 and then moved to Amarillo in 1940, where she met and married Alton Miles Day on Aug. 3, 1941. Over the years, she and her husband owned and operated several restaurants until retiring in 1977. In 2003, Ersey moved to Virginia Beach, Va., to live with her daughter, Linda Theis, and later, they moved to Columbus. Ersey was baptized when she was 13 years old and had been a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church and the Truth-seeker Bible Class for many years before moving to Columbus. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 30, 1990. Survivors include two daughters, Juanel Aldrich of Elizabeth, Colo., and Linda Theis of Columbus; a son, Alton Day of Amarillo; a brother, Eugene Cawthon of Temple; 12 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Hethcox was born April 10, 1918, in Wellington to Thomas and Alice Hethcox. He married Emma Jo on June 10, 1939, in Memphis. He had lived in Amarillo since 1946. He worked as a food brokerage representative for many years. He retired after working for the City of Amarillo at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport. Roy was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2004, and a son, Dennis L. Hethcox, in 1999. She graduated from Amarillo College. She worked for Dr. Jan Werner Sr. from 1961 until 1975 as a vocational licensed nurse. She was a member of First Christian Church and Daughters of the Nile No. 70 Avihk Temple. She married Bert Cavanaugh in 1937 in El Dorado, Kan., and he died in 1970. She married Johnnie F. Ray in 1976 in Amarillo, and he died in 1981. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Graves. Survivors include a sister, Shirley Moran of Aurora, Colo.; a niece; and five nephews. Mrs. Stamper was born in Brownsville and had lived in Amarillo for 33 years. She was non-judgmental, loving, giving and an excellent cook. Mrs. Stamper was a homemaker and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Crutchfield; two brothers, Ikey Schnieder and Junior Schnieder; and her two husbands, James Stamper and Homer McDonald. Mr. Graves, "Uncle Bob," was born April 26, 1943, in Alva, Okla. He attended school in Waynoka and graduated from Alva in 1962. He moved to Amarillo with the Santa Fe Railway in 1963. He served his country in the 101st Airborne B Company 1st of the 327 in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969, where he made staff sergeant. He was a lifetime member of the Pioneer Gun Club. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He married Coy Ann Schuster in 1973 in Clayton, N.M., and they lived all but one year of their married life in Amarillo. Bob was a disabled veteran, great husband, uncle and friend. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Coy; twin nephews, Mark and Sam Schuster, whom he was raising; three daughters, Mary Lynn Shuckman of Wichita, Kan., Shae Clark of Derby, Kan., and Rebecca Preciado and husband Paul of Amarillo; his mother, Eva Cleary of Summerville, S.C.; his stepmother, Bobbie Graves of Enid, Okla.; six sisters, Pat Reid, Carolyn Beagley and Donna Koehn, all of Enid, Jan Hutchman and Connie Hada, both of Oklahoma, and Angela Erickson of Charleston, S.C.; four brothers, Roger Graves of Alva, Michael Graves of Calumet, Okla., Leslie Cleary of Georgia and Allyn Cleary of New York; a special nephew, Tim Miller and wife Tammy of Enid; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many aunts, nieces, nephews and very special friends. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Gorden Edward Chamberlain PANHANDLE - Gorden Edward Chamberlain, 81, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. Mr. Chamberlain was born July 23, 1925, in Vernon to Newt and Bessie Chamberlain and raised in Ringling, Okla. He married Doris Jean Gaddis on Nov. 11, 1945. Gorden served in the Army in Germany during World War II, worked the family farm after the war and later worked in the oil fields. He and Jean moved to the Texas Panhandle in 1958, where Gorden worked at Pantex until retiring after 30 years of loyal service in 1988. Jean died July 29, 1994. On June 15, 1996, Gorden married Nelda Dills. Gorden loved his family, the church and his country. He loved to travel, work in the yard and beat Wes at the "dumb game." The children gave Gorden a Life Achievement Award "80 Years Strong" in 2005. Presented to Gorden E. Chamberlain, Dad, Grandad, Husband and Friend. "Thank God for our Dad." This says it all. He shall be missed. Mr. Jenkins was born July 6, 1932, in Dallas and had been a resident of Miami since 1934. He graduated from Miami High School and attended Texas Tech University. He married Monett Treadwell on July 10, 1956, in Wheeler. He was involved in farming and ranching in the Miami area from 1955 until his death. Mr. Jenkins was a member of First Baptist Church of Miami and the Miami Volunteer Fire Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Miami American Legion Post. He was preceded in death by a son, Karl Jenkins, in 1960, and his parents, Theo and Effie Jenkins. She was an elementary teacher in the public school system and taught private piano and organ lessons. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 5, 1990, and two daughters, Marilyn Mae McClelland on Sept. 8, 1998, and Yvonne Elizabeth Dreier. He was raised in Mills and Swisher counties and attended Tulia schools. He graduated from Tulia High School and then attended West Texas State Teachers College, where he graduated in 1935. He married Annie Julian on Oct. 23, 1935, in Plainview. They moved to Kelton, where he taught at Kelton High School until 1942. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, where he served 34 months. He taught in Groom for two years and moved back to Wheeler County in 1947. He operated the vocational school in Wheeler for 14 years and then taught at Wheeler High School until he retired in 1977. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge of Wheeler. He also was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Wheeler County. Survivors include two sons, Donald Gandy of Panhandle and Mike Gandy of Pampa; a daughter, Carol Glazner of Lubbock; two sisters-in-law, Doris Borum of Plainview and Ola Mae Graham of Plano; six grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
