Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of The Nazarene in Goodland, Kan. Burial will be in Goodland Cemetery in Goodland. Local arrangements are by Cox-Lagrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive, in Amarillo. Kansas arrangements are by Bateman Funeral Home. Melvin was born Dec. 11, 1920, in Athol, Kan., and was raised in Goodland. He served his country in the Army during World War II as an airplane mechanic stationed in New Guinea. After the war, he moved to Denver, where he was a supervisor for Industrial Textiles. In 1987 he moved to Yuma, Ariz., and was a longtime member of the Church of the Nazarene. Melvin loved to travel, and spent every summer in Amarillo since 1984. He also enjoyed sports, crossword puzzles and spending time with his family. Melvin touched the hearts and lives of many people throughout his life. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tammy Sue Borgman; a brother, Bernard Borgman; and his parents, Carl and Minnie Borgman. Survivors left to cherish his memories are his wife, Joy Borgman of Amarillo; two sons, Jack Borgman and wife Lori of Yuma and Jim Borgman and wife Marsha of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. "Ray" Clary, 88, of Amarillo died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Frederick Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Gaffney, S.C., by Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home. Local arrangements are by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive, in Amarillo. Mr. Clary was born Aug. 7, 1918, in South Carolina, where he was raised. He married Vivian Hopper on Nov. 15, 1944, in Gaffney. He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he was involved in the Pacific engagements at Pearl Harbor and the islands including Tokyo Bay during the Japanese surrender. After retirement from the Navy, he worked as an electronics technician for 30 years at the Charleston, S.C., Naval Station. Ray was devoted to his family, church and community. He was a longtime member and deacon of Charleston Heights Baptist Church. He moved to Amarillo in 2005 from Gaffney. Survivors include his wife, Vivian Clary of Amarillo; two sons, Charles Clary Jr. and wife Phyllis of Amarillo and James E. Clary of Tabor, Iowa; two daughters, Martha Ann Chacey and husband Kenneth of Bethesda, Md., and Donna Schell and husband Randy of Houston; a grandson, James A. Clary of Austin; a brother, Damon Clary of Cowpens, S.C.; and a sister, Ouida Osborne of Sandusky, Ohio. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ray Cox Ray Cox, 82, of Amarillo died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006. A celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with David Brown, pastor of Victory Church, and Windell Taylor officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega. Mr. Cox was born May 7, 1924, in Pasadena, Calif., to Wilber and Loraine Cox. He was a veteran of the Rainbow Division, U.S. Army, serving in World War II in France and Germany, and after re-enlisting, Korea. He was awarded two bronze stars, two purple hearts and was a POW in Germany. Mr. Cox was later employed by the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1984. He was a volunteer for the VA for 18 years, a lifetime member of the DAV and member of Victory Church. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his son, Raymond Richard Cox Jr. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Cox; two stepsons, Johnny Gann of Arizona and Thomas Edward Boling III of Florida; four stepdaughters, Debi Basson of Colorado and Theresa Lindberg, Janetta Lynn Sparks and Linda Hampshire, all of California; a sister, Annette Loraine Cox of California; two grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Scott Roberts, 83, of Amarillo died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006. Private family memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St. Mr. Roberts was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Tucson, Ariz., to Lucille and Noel "Bob" Roberts. He joined the Army Air Forces in 1942, and was stationed in San Antonio and Macon, Ga., where he was a member of the Army Air Forces band. While in Italy, he was in the 12th Air Force and continued to play in USO variety shows all over Italy. While in Tucson, Mr. Roberts played with The Wayne Webb Band and Cliff Juergen's Big Band. Mr. Roberts was a member of the Amarillo Masonic Lodge No. 731 and the Khiva Shrine in Amarillo. He was a musician in the Khiva Stage Band, The Dick Morton Band and other local bands in Amarillo for many years. He was preceded in death by an infant son; his parents; and his first wife, Jean. Mrs. Stevens was born July 5, 1931, in Watonga, Okla., to James and Eva Goodman. She was raised in Roaring Springs and California. She moved to Plainview in 1968. She married Ray Ware on Jan. 3, 1948. He died on June 21, 1990. She married J.P. Stevens in 1992. He died on March 18, 1997. She worked as a cook for several years at Hale Center Senior Citizens and Hi- Plains Hospital. She also worked as a private sitter for the elderly. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was past president of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary and served as an officer in the District Auxiliary. She was also preceded in death by two brothers; and two sisters. She graduated from Shamrock High School in 1934. She was a member of the Church of Christ and very active in the community.
