Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Tom Riley, a nephew, of Iowa Park, and the Rev. Dennis Williams, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home. Mrs. Chapman was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Fairlie to George Thomas Riley and Mary Ann Riley. She lived in Wheeler County all her life. Mrs. Chapman attended Briscoe school and graduated from Briscoe High School. She married Oddie Albert Chapman in 1954 in Sayre, Okla. She worked at Clay Grocery Store for several years and then operated the flower and gift shop in Wheeler. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Wheeler. Mrs. Chapman was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999; a son, Don, in 1979; five brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include two sons, Jim Atherton and wife Audie of Hoover, Ala., and Von Chapman and wife Cindy of Wheeler; a stepdaughter, Tootie Nickell and husband Dossie of Amarillo; two sisters, Wilma Barker and Minerva Jones, both of Wheeler; a brother, Earl Riley of McLean; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. "Pat" Joyce, 87, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with Tim Easley, her nephew, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery. Mrs. Joyce, a longtime resident of Moore County, was born Feb. 15, 1919, in Childress. The family moved to Oklahoma, where they farmed when she was a small child. Pat and M.M. Joyce were married on March 23, 1945, in Ponca City, Okla. Soon they moved to Moore County, where they lived at the Cactus Ordinance Works, which later became Phillips Petroleum Co. The couple had two children, Johnny and Lynda. Pat loved her home, family and friends very much. On June 7, 1999, her husband of 54 years, M.M., died. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Sarah and Will Frye; two sisters, Mary Hager of Dumas and Margaret Ropollo of Lake Tawakoni; and a brother, Jack Frye of Dumas. Mr. Conway was born April 7, 1934, in Watertown, Conn., to Russell Powell Conway and Nellie Susan Hailey Conway. He was a Marine Corps veteran, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He had been a resident of Stratford since 1990. He lived in Texhoma, Okla., from 1969 until 1984. He married Guadalupe Nanez on July 31, 1987, in Flagstaff, Ariz. He was an agricultural pilot in the farm chemicals industry. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Thomas; his mother and stepfather, Nellie and George Parson; and his stepmother and father, Mary and Russell Conway. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. Mrs. Rohan was born July 11, 1910, in Rhineland to Ben and Jane Urbanczyk. Her parents purchased land in the White Deer community in 1911 and were among the original settlers to establish the first Polish colony in the Texas Panhandle. Her Polish heritage was a source of great pride for Dalen. She continued to speak Polish as her second language until her death. Dalen was a graduate of White Deer High School. She married George Rohan on Nov. 14, 1933, in White Deer. Their first home was in Karnes City. After moving to Panhandle in 1935, George and Dalen farmed a small parcel of land. Together, they built their holdings to include more land and engaged in cattle enterprises. Dalen was active in the Home Demonstration Club, St. Theresa's Guild and the Children of Mary. She was a woman of great faith and took part in and supported the activities of St. Theresa's Church. She loved gardening and was well known for her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed China painting and genealogy. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; two brothers, Bennie and Vincent Urbanczyk; and a son-in-law, Jack York. Mr. Wright was born Oct. 10, 1939, in Shallowater to C.W. and Juanita Scott Wright. He married Pat Barker in 1963 in Tucumcari, N.M. He had been a resident of Friona since January 1954, moving from Shallowater. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a farmer and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Friona. "Bob" Lovett Robert L. "Bob" Lovett, 78, of Amarillo died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2101 N. Bell St. Mr. Lovett was born in Greenwood County, Kan., and had been a resident of Amarillo since 1952. He was an independent insurance agent. He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 50 years and had served in various callings, most recently, as stake patriarch. Mr. Lovett and his wife served missions in Ireland for 18 months and in West Africa for 18 months. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and an avid volleyball player to the age of 77. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout as a young man. Mr. Lovett married Ellen Brock in 1951 in Dumas. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Margaret Adams and husband Marlin of Thomaston, Ga., and Stephanie Updike and husband Peter of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two sons, Dr. Brock W. Amarillo Glob-News, Sept. 17, 2006 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Troy M. Mays Troy M. Mays, 82, of Amarillo died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Winfred Moore, pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church, and Dr. Howard Batson officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Mays was born Jan. 13, 1924, in Searcy County, Ark., to W.A. and Agnes Mays. His childhood was spent in the Harrison, Ark., area and in St. Louis for a short time. The family moved to Amarillo in March 1936. After graduation from Amarillo High School in 1941, he attended Baylor University until the attack on Pearl Harbor. He joined the Navy in 1942 and spent three years as a quartermaster on a landing ship median. He returned to Amarillo after World War II and went into the auto finance business with his father and an uncle. The family branched out and formed numerous companies and trusts with interests in ranching, apartment complexes and shopping centers. He was president of First State Bank for a short time, a former partner in Texas Salvage Sales and previous owner of Cathey-Fullingim Hardware and Eva's Fashions. He had been a faithful member of First Baptist Church since 1936. Mr. Mays was a longtime member of and president of the High Plains Kiwanis Club, where he received the George Hixon Fellowship award in 1998. He spent nine years each as a trustee of Cal Farley's Boys Ranch and High Plains Baptist Hospital. He was an active member of the Mainland Advisory Board of the Hawaii Baptist Academy and was a past trustee of Park Place Towers. From 1976 until 2005, he was a driver for Meals on Wheels and was a past board member. Mr. Mays loved working with the family foundation and trying to do good deeds for the Amarillo community and various Baptist causes. He received the distinguished Benefactor Award from Wayland Baptist University in 2004. At Baylor University, he was a member of the Development Council and loved anything connected with the university. A dedicated sports fan, Mr. Mays was a member of the President's Circle of the Baylor Bear Foundation. The Troy and Betty Lou Mays Endowment for the Director of Student Foundation was established in 1993 and the Betty Lou Mays Memorial Soccer Field was dedicated in 2000. Mr. Mays was a member of the Endowed Scholarship society and was honored twice at yearly philanthropy banquets. On Jan. 30, 2006, Mr. Mays was awarded Baylor's highest honor, to be named a Founder of Baylor University. Special thanks to his wonderful caregivers the last few weeks - Ed, Samantha, Lori, Annette and Brandie. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Taylor P. Mays; and his first wife, Betty Lou Mays, in 1998. Survivors include his wife, Billye B. She was raised in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School. She married Charles Hooker on July 18, 1946, in Plainview. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed working in her garden and her special greenhouse and watching things grow. She was a member of Palisades Fellowship Baptist Church and was a member of the Red Hatter's Club. She was active in the CHIC Investment Club, the Palisades Home Demonstration Club and was also the co-owner of The Cleaning Connection. She loved to cook and entertain guests in her home. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend. Born Dec. 6, 1949, Yvonne lived her life as a kind-hearted friend to all. The second oldest of seven siblings, Yvonne naturally had a spontaneous, unique personality all her own. Yvonne was a graduate of Canyon High School. She loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, animals, cooking and traveling. Yvonne had lived in Colorado, Houston, Oklahoma and New Mexico, but spent the last decade living near her family in Amarillo. She was always a good friend, a hip aunt, a funny sister and a treasure hunter. Yvonne had compassion for everyone she met. She loved her friends and family, and they loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernestine and A.R. "Pee Wee" Friemel. Mr. Sherwood was born Sept. 9, 1936, in Woodward, Okla., but he "got to Texas as quick as he could," at age 5 months. He graduated from Panhandle High School in 1955. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Texas and a master's degree from West Texas State University. During his coaching career, he touched lives at Baker Junior High in Austin, Comanche, Dalhart, Liberal, Kan., Kermit, Spearman and Plainview. He also served as principal in Vega. He was the athletic director for Lubbock Independent School District until he retired in 2001. He married Jaquelyn Hartsell on Dec. 17, 1955, in Panhandle. He was a member of Monterey Church of Christ, Texas High School Coaches Association and Texas Athletic Directors Association. The family would like to express its appreciation to Dr. Martinez, Gail Hargrove and the staff of the Lubbock Cancer Center and to the special nurses on the 10th floor of Covenant Hospital for 15 months of loving care. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Weston Sherwood.
