Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Angel Funeral Home Chapel, 2209 S. Arthur St., with Deacon Hector Gallegos and Margarita Ulibarri officiating. Mass will be at 2 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with Monsignor Rex Nicholl officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Arredondo had lived in the area for more than 24 years. She was a loving mother and a housewife who enjoyed cooking for her children and her family. She was a Guadalupana and loved to help her church in any way she could. She will be dearly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Arredondo; a son, Juan Jose Arredondo; two daughters, Josefina Arredondo and Catalina Arredondo; and her parents, Nemecio Mota and Alejandra Fabela. Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Mendoza and Maria E. Arredondo, both of Amarillo; two sons, Isaias Arredondo and Pasqual Arredondo, both of Amarillo; 36 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great- grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pat Burdett Pat Burdett, 66, of Amarillo died Monday, Sept. 18, 2006. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Coulter Road Baptist Church with Daryl Roach, pastor of More Fellowship, officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Burdett was born in Paris and had been a resident of Amarillo since 1958. She received her master's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. She was a Christian marriage and family counselor and had a private practice. She loved to serve others through her counseling practice and desired to see relationships healed. She also worked for many years at High Plains Dialysis Center as a social worker. Mrs. Burdett was a member of Coulter Road Baptist Church, where she served on the staff as a counselor and also was the church librarian. Mrs. Burdett was a member of the WAGGS RV Club and enjoyed RVing with her husband. She also loved to sew, read and spend lots of time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Richard Burdett of Amarillo; three children, Steve Burdett and wife Tammy, Robin Shurbet and husband Todd and Brad Burdett and wife Elaine, all of Amarillo; her mother, Berniece Dixson of Amarillo; a brother, Bill Dixson; two sisters, Sandra Hanna and Kim Brawley; and seven grandchildren, Sydnee, Brady, Allie, Brent, Collin, Conner and Brianna. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marian L. Smith in 1950 in Pomona, Calif. They moved to Amarillo from Alvarado in 2000, and moved to Tulia this year. She was an avid china painter and loved being "GG" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Southlawn Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel W. Hunter. Survivors include her husband, Fred P. Edwin was born Dec. 30, 1947, to Henry Calvin Rue and Verona May Purcella Rue in rural Chaves County. He grew up in Roswell, graduated from Goddard High School in 1966 and was co-owner in C & E Painting, moving to Amarillo in 1990 to continue in the painting business. Edwin was a big-hearted, much-loved son, dad, grandpa, companion and friend, who was generous to all and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Calvin Rue; and two sisters. Guy, 77, of Canyon died Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church of Canyon with the Rev. Clark Williams and the Rev. Donna Johnston officiating. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Duane Francis Guy was born Dec. 26, 1928, in Atwood, Kan., to Ellen Ruhaak and Franklin Earl Guy. The Guys later moved to Hays, Kan., where Duane graduated from high school. He married Lynette Pearson in McCracken, Kan., on June 5, 1955. Guy served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 and was stationed in Korea for 14 months of that time. Guy received bachelor's and master's degrees in history from Fort Hays State University and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Kansas. He came to now West Texas A&M University in Canyon in 1958 as a history professor. In 1967 he became head of the history department, later history and political science, a position he held until his retirement in 1994. He was recipient of the Faculty Excellence Award in 1985 and was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus in 1995. He served as sponsor for the Interfraternity Council at WT for many years and was an avid WTAMU basketball fan. Guy served as editor of the Panhandle-Plains Historical Review for 13 years; the 1976 Review was a definitive work on Palo Duro Canyon and has been reprinted by Texas Tech Press as "The Story of Palo Duro Canyon." He was the author of "A History of the Panhandle Bankers Association" and "Texas 47-Deaf Smith," co-editor of "A Joyful Journey, A History of the First United Methodist Church, Canyon, Texas, 1889-1989" and a contributor to "Continuing A Joyful Journey." He was active in community affairs: He coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams; he was house manager at the historical drama "Texas" in Palo Duro Canyon for 14 years; he was a member of the planning and zoning board for the city of Canyon and served on the Canyon Area Library building committee. He was a faithful member of Canyon's First United Methodist Church and served as chair or member of many of the committees and boards of the church. He was a member of Westerners International, a lay western-history organization, and Phi Alpha Theta, honorary history fraternity. He was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma social fraternity at Fort Hays State. He served as chair of the 1976 American Revolution Bicentennial Committee of Amarillo and chair of the Canyon/Randall County Bicentennial Committee and was a member of the Texas Colleges and Universities Bicentennial Committee. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard E. Guy and Ralph R. Guy. Survivors include his wife, Lynn; a son, Marc Guy and wife Sue of Carrollton; a daughter, Patti Reeves and husband Ron of Plano; and four grandchildren, Jonathan and Jennifer Reeves and Alexa and Aric Guy. "A Lost Treasure" Venita Crocker Mastin passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, at the age of 84 at her home in Clarendon. Venita was raised in a loving farm family in Godly, Texas. She had four sisters and one brother. As a young woman, she moved to Dallas, married and raised three children. In her retirement years, she moved to the Texas Panhandle. You may remember a silver-haired, blue-eyed lady in a denim hat and red vest that could be seen at most garage sales for more than 20 years. Few knew she was an accomplished freelance writer with many published novels, magazine articles, newspaper columns in "The Dallas Times Herald" and wrote jokes for Phyllis Diller and Henny Youngman. She even appeared doing stand-up comedy in the "Amarillo Little Theater." She also worked for Sears and as a secretary for the Dallas County Agriculture Department. She always had a smile on her face and a scripture to share on Bible prophecy. Being one of Jehovah's Witnesses and sharing her knowledge of the Bible was her favorite thing to do.
