Mr. Grays was born July 12, 1925, in Cameron. He married Alice Harris on June 9, 1958, in Pampa. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Chiquita Grays of White Sands, N.M., Cassandra Watkins of San Antonio, Patrice Grays of Amarillo and Sheila Evans of Houston; two sons, Thomas Kerry Grays of Richardson and Kizer Kip Grays of Pampa; eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Walton officiating and Kelly Raymond, pastor, assisting. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery by Bailey-Ware Funeral Home. Mrs. Brooks went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006. She was 78. She was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Kingsmill to Jesse and Beulah Jenkins Dykes. LaVerne lived her entire life in Gray County. She was a 1946 graduate of Pampa High School. She was also a longtime member of First Baptist Church, McLean, and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. LaVerne married Edgar Earl Brooks on June 29, 1946, in Pampa. They were married for 37 years until he died in January 1983. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and three sisters, Lorraine Dykes, Needa Joyce Johnson and Laura Mae Eddleman. Survivors include two sons, Ed Brooks and wife Heather of McLean and Dennis Brooks and wife Letha of Burleson; a daughter, Cindy Walton and husband Joe of Stamford; a brother, Jesse Dykes and wife Vivian of Pampa; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- HELEN MARILYN JOHNSON CHILDRESS - Helen Marilyn Johnson, 71, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006. She was a longtime resident of Brice before moving to Childress in February 2001. She married Max Carl Johnson on Sept. 26, 1962, in Amarillo. She had been very active in the Phi Beta Kappa sorority several years ago. She was a writer and had published a significant amount of religious poetry on the Internet and had two books of her poetry published. She was a homemaker and a member of a non-denominational church. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Stephanie Collins and husband Michael of Durham, Okla., and Tammy Logsdon of San Antonio; a son, Steve Johnson and wife Mary Ann of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Margaret Milner of Sacramento, Calif., and Carol Jowel of Hereford; five brothers, Richard Alston and Dan Alston, both of Plano, Virgil Alston of Park City, Utah, Steve Alston of Bedford and David Alston of Dickinson; six grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. Young Clarence V. Young, 74, of Amarillo died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Young was born Feb. 8, 1932, to Roark and Oma Young in Red Oak, Okla. He came to Amarillo in October 1955, when he was released from his three years of service in the 378th Ordnance Company of the U.S. Army. He married Frances Rice Young on April 4, 1956, in Amarillo and lived the last 51 years of his life in Amarillo. He was the founding owner of Tascosa Office Machines in 1967 and sold the company in 1977. He then started Tascosa Business Machines and sold the company in 1986. He was then part owner in Wolfe Office Equipment. After retiring, he enjoyed his grandchildren and their many activities. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Lloyd Young Jr. Survivors include his wife; a son Ronald Darrel Young and wife Rita; a daughter Vicki Beck and husband Ricky; three sisters, Faye Webb and Frances Walker, both of Oklahoma, and Bobbi Humes of California; four grandchildren, Steven Beck and wife Christin, Stephanie Beck, Tara Young and Traci Young; a great-grandson, Brayden Rye Beck; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Jarrell Weston Wilma A. Jarrell Weston, 96, of Amarillo died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Westlawn Memorial Park in Borger with the Rev. Don Boren, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Borger, officiating. Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Park Place Towers in Amarillo with the Rev. Mrs. Weston was born May 29, 1910, in Newlin to Sarah Adeline Long Jarrell and Dennis Marvin Jarrell, and she was the second of five children. After a successful academic career, she began teaching in Collingsworth County in 1928. Mrs. Weston continued her education, earning her teaching certification from West Texas State Teachers College in 1937. From 1937 through 1947, she taught at Sam Houston Elementary School in Pampa. After marrying D. Russell Weston in 1947, she moved to Phillips and taught at Phillips Elementary School until her retirement. For 46 years, Mrs. Weston taught hundreds of first- and second-graders, whose lives have been enhanced by her love for each child and her exceptional teaching. Mrs. Weston was a member of Texas Retired Teachers Association, Beta Sigma Phi and United Methodist Women. In 1995, the Westons moved to Park Place Towers in Amarillo. After their retirements, she and her husband found great pleasure traveling extensively throughout Europe, Asia, South America and the United States. Her surviving family members and friends will miss Wilma beyond measure. She loved us all unconditionally and forgave us before we knew we needed forgiveness. Wilma was the consummate aunt, godmother and friend. She was a blessing to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Russell; two brothers, Raymond Jarrell and Jack Jarrell; a sister, Almeda Fraser; a nephew, John Jarrell; and a niece, Nicki Lyon. Survivors include a sister, June Jarrell Atkins; six nieces, Linda Chilton, Anne Patin, Stephanie Stanley, Nancy Atkins, Sammie Jarrell and Janis Parsons; two nephews, Lee Fraser and Bill Fraser; and a goddaughter, Laura Skalak. Mrs. Crownover was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Midland to Boyce and Rose Webb Eidson. Bess married Frank Crownover in January 1944. They were married for 55 years. During that time, they farmed in the Fairview community before moving to Canyon in 1987. Mrs. Crownover taught fifth grade for 25 years in Claude and Groom. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress and most of all - a dedicated family woman. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000; a son, Bobby Crownover, in 2004; and a brother, Bob Eidson, in 2005. Survivors include a son, Charles Crownover and wife Lajo of Briscoe; a daughter, Ann Green and husband Robert of Hartley; a daughter-in-law, Mary Crownover; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
