Rodgers Clara W. Rodgers, 72, of Amarillo died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in New Beginnings with Travis Shannon and Carolyn Gabel officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Clara was born Oct. 18, 1933, in Ralls. She married Eddie Ray Rodgers on Aug. 24, 1950, in Clovis, N.M. She had worked as a telephone operator for Amarillo Relay for years. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 13, 1988. Survivors include three daughters, Carol Herber of Panhandle, Vandetta Perkins of Angel Fire, N.M., and Janice F. Brooks of Granger, Ind.; a brother, Donald R. Evans of Amarillo; a sister, Mary Francis Ferris of Amarillo; four grandsons, Robert Dixon, Steven Dixon, Sean D. Brooks and Darryl R. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Howard Lee Lauder of Amarillo died on his 79th birthday, Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006. Mr. Lauder was born in Amarillo on Sept. 26, 1927, to Mabel Easum Lauder and Howard Frank Lauder. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1946. He married Patsy Newby, also of Amarillo, on Sept. 3, 1950. Mr. Lauder retired from Pioneer Natural Gas in 1987 after 37 years of loyal service. He enjoyed numerous activities and interests including singing in the chorus and quartet of S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. (barbershop quartet), water skiing, softball (playing and then coaching his daughters) and motorcycling. Mr. Lauder also played semi-professional baseball with the Amarillo Gold Sox in the late 1940s. He was a lifetime member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Connie, Carol and B.J. of Hospice Care of the Southwest for their compassionate care of Howard Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert E. Lauder; and two sisters, Virginia May Lauder Bush and Ruth Lynn Lauder Brown. They were co-partners and owners of Hughes Construction Quality Built Homes. They built many homes in Dumas, Amarillo and the surrounding area for 40 years. They lived in Dumas since 1942 and moved to Amarillo in 1994. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Homer Cook. She was employed as a registered nurse with King's Manor Methodist Retirement Home and was currently the director of the Assisted Living Program. Jacque was very involved in her work and created several special programs for King's Manor. She started the Samaritan Hospice Program, the Home Health Hospice Program and the Adult Day Care Center. Mrs. Grogan was born Jan. 27, 1919, in Tomkinsville, Ky. She married Reed Grogan on Sept. 15, 1940. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1983. She worked as bookkeeper for Simmons Chevrolet in McLean for many years. She was a member of McLean Church of Christ and served as Worthy Matron for both the McLean and Shamrock chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star. Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Holliman was born Jan. 17, 1920, in Floydada to Carr Scott and Clara Jane Scott. She married Horace Holliman on Oct. 16, 1935, in Hollis, Okla. He died in 2001. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the VFW Auxiliary and Chaparral Sams RV Club and was active in Keenagers. Mother was a talented seamstress who used her expertise to ensure that her children would always look the best. She spent many hours while we were asleep to make sure we had that special outfit. Mother was also a wonderful cook, the grandkids can attest to this. We learned to cook at our mother's knee. She loved to share her homemade goods with others, taking food to neighbors, friends and family. Everyone loved to get a dish from Cathern. She was also preceded in death by seven brothers and a sister. Survivors include two sons, Horace Bo Holliman and wife Patricia of Wellington and De Holliman and wife Dottie of Panhandle; two daughters, Alcie Estes and husband Bill of Vernon and Rebecca Owens and husband Ralph of Wellington; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Elder St. Fallbrook, CA 92098. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- W. Ronald "Ron" Hill MIDLAND - W. Ronald "Ron" Hill, 82, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Methodist Church in Midland with the Rev. John Rech officiating. Private burial was in Resthaven Memorial Park by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Ron was born Sept. 4, 1924, in Newton, Kan., to Wilbur and Sylvia Hill, and attended public schools there, graduating in 1942. He worked for the Santa Fe Railway Co. prior to entering the Air Force in February 1943. As a sergeant, he was awarded the Bronze Star medal for meritorious service in the Pacific theater of the war and was ultimately appointed to warrant officer at AAF headquarters in Hawaii working directly with the commanding general. Ron attended and graduated from Kansas University in Lawrence with a B.S. in business administration, and Santa Fe's Institute of Business Economics at USC. He was a charter member of KU's Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, an organization he remained affiliated with throughout his life. He resumed his career with the Santa Fe Railway, which spanned some 45 years, starting as a bill and voucher clerk and rising through the operating department secretarial ranks until being named secretary to the president in Chicago in 1959. He was named transportation inspector at Wellington, Kan., three years later and general transportation inspector in Amarillo in 1964. He was promoted to assistant office manager in 1966, office manager in 1968, and assistant to the general manager, a role he maintained until 1977. At that time he was named vice president, Santa Fe Land Improvement Co. and general manager of real estate and industrial development for the Santa Fe Railway Co. in Los Angeles. He was later moved to Chicago as assistant vice president of personnel and labor relations until his retirement in 1986. Ron and Darlene then returned to Amarillo, Texas, where he accepted a position with the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce. They recently relocated to Midland to be closer to family. Ron was an active member of Paramount Baptist Church in Amarillo. During his years in Amarillo, he participated in a number of organizations, serving terms as president of YMCA Board of Directors, president of the Amarillo Chapter of the American Cancer Society and was a tireless advocate of United Way of Amarillo. He was a longtime Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow in that organization. Ron was an avid tennis player and golfer and served on the board of the Amarillo Country Club. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed his time with family and friends. Ron's unassuming, generous nature, contagious smile and witty sense of humor will be greatly missed, but we rejoice in the assurance of his eternal life. Ron is survived and deeply missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Darlene Steele Hill; two children, Pebble Winters and husband Glenn, and Roc'C Semmelbeck and husband Mark, all of Midland; six grandchildren, Katie Stepp and husband Patrick of Dallas, and Sara Hartsfield Valadez, Rachel Hartsfield, Ashley Winters, Sharee Semmelbeck and Christopher Semmelbeck, all of Midland; and a great-granddaughter, Matilyn Valadez of Midland.
