Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. Grover Neal, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford- Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Mrs. Evans was born March 6, 1926, in Wichita Falls to Jeff and Jessie White Coulter. When she was young, the family moved to San Angelo, where she attended Blackshear Elementary and graduated from Blackshear High School. After moving to Artesia, N.M., she married Earnest R. Evans, and they had eight children. In 1966, Mrs. Evans moved to Amarillo. She was a loyal member of St. John Baptist Church and a member of Wroten High Plains Court of Calanthe. Survivors include five sons, Harry Coulter of Oklahoma City, James Coulter of Las Cruces, N.M., and Ronald Evans, Maurice Evans and John Roberson, all of Amarillo; four daughters, Sybil Evans, Gwendolyn Evans and Deborah Evans, all of Amarillo and Judy Roberson Perkins of Arlington; 36 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. The family will be at 2013 N.W. 14th Ave. and 4027 N.E. 26th Ave. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Harold Edward Fickling Harold Edward Fickling, 71, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Dr. G.A. Roach, chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Mr. Fickling was born Sept. 27, 1935, to John and Viola Fickling in Newcastle, where he was raised from childhood. He married Barbara Ann George in 1957. They had three children. He married Linda Manning in 1976. He joined the U.S. Army in 1953, leaving the Oklahoma National Guard in 1979. During his service, he received the Oklahoma Commendation Medal for conspicuous performance of military duty. Harold worked for Rowen Drilling Co. from 1956 to 1966 in the oil fields while still an Oklahoma National Guard reservist. He had also worked as superintendent of parks and recreation in Weatherford, Okla., for more than 13 years. He later retired from the VA Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., as a medical-supply technician. He was a perpetual member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, 32nd degree Mason, in Weatherford, as well as a member of the Khiva Shriners. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda; a brother, Joe; and a sister, Janet. Survivors include a sister, Mary Thomas of Burleson; a brother, Jim Fickling of El Paso; a daughter, Annies Lovett of Amarillo; two sons, Calvin "Dean" Fickling and wife Bertha and Evan Fickling, all of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Sassy. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- William "Bill" F. Rawlings William "Bill" F. Rawlings, 75, of Amarillo died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Rawlings was born April 17, 1931, in Shamrock to Edna Childers Rawlings and Robert Roy Rawlings. He graduated from Horace Mann Junior High in 1946 and from Amarillo High School in 1949. Mr. Rawlings married Margaret Duke in January 1951 in Amarillo. Bill was a member of the Downtown Lions Club and a member of SPEBSQSA Inc, from 1948 to 1964. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1949 to 1956. From 1957 to 1962, he sang baritone for the Pioneers Quartet and was a funeral director and embalmer for N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Home. Mr. Rawlings was a former director of the Pride of Palo Duro Sweet Adeline's Chorus and was a general partner of Canyon Creek Apartments from 1976 to 1982. He was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church. He was also a member of Amarillo Association of Life Underwriters and had been a life insurance agent since 1964. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Danny Rawlings of Amarillo and Darryl Rawlings of Huntsville, Ala.; two daughters, Debbie Masters of Dallas and Diane Dobbs of Wichita Falls; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with John Elser, chaplain of Thomas E. Creek Veteran Affairs Medical Center, officiating. Miss Gillett was born in Estherville, Iowa. She was a longtime resident of Amarillo. Miss Gillett served in the U.S. Army's Women's Air Corps during World War II, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. She received the WAAC Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Miss Gillett was the owner of Amarillo Canine Country Club, which furnished pet grooming, boarding and pet cemetery, from 1956 to 2003. She had received numerous ribbons and trophies for show dogs and in 1982 received a life membership in the Panhandle Kennel Club. "My loving pets I will always remember." Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rivero married Teodoro Rivero in 1956. Mrs. Rivero moved to Amarillo from Mexico in 1988 with her husband. She was an active member of Jehovah's Witnesses congregation. Mr. Rivero passed away in 1999. He loved his job, his computer and his X-Box and was looking forward to attending Amarillo College in the spring. He was a member of The Door Christian Fellowship Church. She married Cecil A. West on Dec. 12, 1939, in Woodward. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a sister, Helen Wade. Survivors include a son, Ronald West and wife Karen of Goddard, Kan.; a sister, Mary Biggers and husband Don of El Reno, Okla.; two stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mildred Laverne Frost Smith Mildred Laverne Frost Smith, 94, of Amarillo died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the original building of First Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Hubbard, pastor of Lake Tanglewood Community Church, and the Rev. Alan Williamson, chaplain at Park Central Retirement Center, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Smith was born July 11, 1912, in Jester, Okla., a small town in Greer County founded by her grandfather, D.C. Jester. Her father, O.C. Frost, was a "wildcat" oil man, and her mother, Oda Pearl Jester Frost, was a wonderful cook, seamstress and homemaker. She grew up in Norman, Okla., where she graduated from Norman High School. She was active at First Christian Church and enjoyed music and drama. Mildred earned a degree in French from the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member and president of Alpha Phi Sorority. She was also chosen as a "Goodfellow" in the OU yearbook. On Aug. 25, 1935, she married Frank Duggan Smith Sr. They moved to Salina, Kan., and Hutchinson, Kan., with his work at C.R. Anthony. In January 1939, they moved to Pampa, where they owned and operated a shoe store. With the help of loyal employees, Mildred ran the store during World War II while Frank served overseas with the 9th Army Combat Engineers. Mildred and Frank lived in Pampa for 30 years and were involved in the PTA, Parent Ed. Study Group, Presbyterian Church, 20th Century Culture Club, Jr. Service Club and other art, social and civic activities. Mildred was a volunteer at Pampa Hospital as well as with the Red Cross and Salvation Army. They reared two sons in the community of Pampa, and in 1969, sold their business and moved to the Lake Tanglewood community outside Amarillo. There, they were also involved in many social, civic and church club activities. They were founding members of Lake Tanglewood Interdenominational Community Church, where they served on the church board. They enjoyed many years at Lake Tanglewood with their children and their five granddaughters. Mildred was an avid golfer and artist. She enjoyed reading, painting, quilting, cross-stitch and visiting her great- grandchildren. Mildred resided at Ware Living Center in Amarillo since 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years; her parents; a brother, Clarence Frost; and two sisters, Francis Rusk and Katie Pace. Survivors include two sons, Frank Duggan Smith Jr. and wife Ruth of Granbury and David Jester Smith and wife Verna of Dumas; and five granddaughters, Deborah Hoag and husband Jeff of Cypress, Diann Ainsworth and husband Alan of Weatherford, Crystal Koenig and husband Alan of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Karie Mueller and husband Dennis of Amarillo and Callie Cleere and husband Rayce of Enid, Okla. She enjoyed 14 great-grandchildren, Matthew and Luke Hoag, Alexandra and Jake Ainsworth, Zachary, Maegann, Mark, Joseph and Kathryn Koenig, Tyson, Jessica and Taylor Sparks and Virginia and Athena Cleere; and three stepgreat-grandchildren Kara, Aaron and Matthew Mueller. "Danny" Ramirez, 55, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Pete Valdez, deacon, officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Hereford with Jon McCollough, pastor of New Wine Assembly, officiating. Mr. Ramirez was born March 2, 1951, in San Benito. He was raised in Sterling, Ill., and lived there until he was 18. He joined the Army and served his country during the Vietnam War as a medic. He later moved to Hereford and worked as an emergency medical technician there. He later returned to Sterling and worked as an EMT there as well. He married Fidila Sustaita in 1975, and they had six children together. He married Teresa Knox in Amarillo in 2000. He worked as a construction worker at the time of his death. He enjoyed camping, carpentry, writing and singing his own songs and playing the harmonica. He was a hard worker and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel; a son, Jamie; a daughter, Sarah; a brother, Luis; and a sister, Stella. Mrs. Axe was born June 17, 1915, in Arkansas to William Frank Zemer and Bessie Lois Yarbrough Zemer. She grew up in New Orleans. She married Anderson "Andy" Axe on Oct. 27, 1946, in Elk City, Okla. They moved to the family farm in north Castro County that Andy's parents had homesteaded in the early 1900s. She lived on that farm until her death. She was a member of Frio Baptist Church, where she taught preschoolers in Sunday school for many years and was a G.A. leader. She had been a 4-H leader and was a member of the Hereford Garden Club. "MeeMaw" loved to sew, cook, crochet, read and work in her yard. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979; her parents; and four brothers. She was a housekeeper for Borger Health Care. A memorial and celebration of Shelby's life will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Follett United Methodist Church in Follett. Mrs. Brown, beloved wife and mother, daughter and sister, died Sept. 19, 2006, in an automobile accident in rural Pennsylvania at the age of 51. Shelby was born Feb. 14, 1955, in Houston. As a child of a career military officer, she traveled the world, eventually living in Germany, Pennsylvania, Michigan, California and Hawaii by the time she graduated high school summa cum laude from Culver Academy for Girls in Culver, Ind. Shelby went on to graduate from California State University at Hayward, and began her career as a certified public accountant in 1979. She became a systems analyst for Exxon and worked for many years in corporate America, rising through the ranks. In her late 40s, she decided to follow her heart and her love of farming, and she left her traditional lifestyle to begin life anew as the proprietor of Earth Mother Farms and the Anala Goat Co. Shelby and her husband, Teg, built their business in Beasley, acquiring a reputation as top-quality goat breeders with their prize-winning stock. They began their raw goat milk dairy in 2003 and have offered their exceptional line of dairy products in farmer's markets all over the Houston area. Shelby was especially proud that the farm was finally beginning to show a profit. She was committed to the importance of raw goat milk for the overall wellness of her many customers and loved to speak about its health benefits. Shelby was the earth mother of Earth Mother Farms and loved to laugh about her radical lifestyle change. She leaves a legacy of fearless adventure to all who loved her. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. A person as unique as her name, Mrs. Ray passed away after courageously battling illness for several years. She was born Oct. 25, 1945, in Flour Bluff. Genelyn grew up and attended high school in Amarillo and was a 1967 graduate of Texas Tech University, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority and president of the Association of Womens Students. She was an inspiration to her family and friends through her love, courage, wit, wisdom, strength and compassion. Genelyn enjoyed reading, collecting, learning, traveling and spending time with her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Cannon. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in St. John's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.) Cemetery by John Ireland Funeral Home of Moore. Mrs. Barfield was born March 4, 1930, to Dr. D.G. "Mike" Willard and Vera Louise Griffin Willard, lifelong residents of Norman. She was also the granddaughter of Dr. David Griffin and Flora Mae Phelps Griffin. Dr. Griffin was the founder and first director of Griffin Memorial Hospital. She graduated from Norman High School and attended the University of Oklahoma, where she majored in physical education. She was member of the Phi Beta Pi sorority and the Ducks' Swim Team. While attending OU, she married Oliver E. Barfield of Amarillo, Texas. They moved to Amarillo and raised their four children. Carol returned to Norman in 1974 and worked at Griffin Memorial Hospital. As the activities director of the Outreach Program, her 20 years of work with Transition House clients reflected her compassion and dedication to the many lives she touched. She was involved in Norman's drug and alcohol community as a certified substance abuse counselor and active in helping people with addictions and recovery. She was also a friend of Bill W. She often brought her grandchildren to St. John's Episcopal Church on Sundays, where she and her family had been lifelong members. Carol was a docent at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art and the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History. She swam several times a week at the YMCA. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She was a great "little buddy." She was preceded in death by her father; her mother; and a brother, Gordon G. Willard of St. Louis. Phelps Barfield and Matthew Willard Barfield and wife Alicia, all of Norman; a daughter, Leigh Bell and husband Richard of Norman; six grandchildren, Capt. Zachary Bell USMC, currently stationed in Baghdad, Iraq, and wife Melissa of San Diego, Lt. Oliver Eakle Barfield III USAF, stationed in Austin, Texas, Nicholas Barfield of Billings, Mont., and Heather Barfield, Kenna Littlefield and Kale Littlefield, all of Norman; and two great-grandchildren, Hayley and Ashley Bell, both of Norman.
