Burial will be in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mrs. Martinez was born Nov. 23, 1941, in Amarillo to Frank and Paula Martinez. She married Ramon Martinez on April 28, 1984, in Amarillo. She was a homemaker. Combs, 88, of Hereford died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006. Private graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Rest Lawn Cemetery with Thane Wright, grandson, officiating. Arrangements are by Hereford Heritage Funeral Home. L.D. was born Oct. 8, 1918, in Paradise to Lilbern D and Mary A. Mann Combs. The family moved to Hayden, N.M., in 1923. He attended school in Hayden, playing basketball, which he enjoyed doing. They moved to Clayton, N.M., after the death of his father. L.D. married Velna Behimer in 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge, he started driving a truck, which he did until he went to work for CIG in 1950. He retired after 35 years with the company. After his retirement, they moved to Hereford, where his wife died in 1987. L.D. later married Thama Pearson in 1994 at Hereford. He loved to play the guitar and played with a local band. He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; two sisters; and a granddaughter. Survivors include his wife, Thama; two daughters, Conny Whitehorn of Hereford and Carol Brewer Roos of Leadville, Colo.; a son, Tony Pearson of Hobbs, N.M.; a sister, Margie Hartwig of Hereford; a brother, Robert Combs of New York, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Burial and graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Nowata, Okla., with Joe and Earl Sears officiating. Jean was born Aug. 5, 1917, in Nowata to James Elmer and Bridget Ann "Biddy" Burgess. She grew up in the Nowata/Bartlesville area in Oklahoma, and after graduating from high school, married Jesse Herbert Pfaff. They lived in Shidler, Okla., and Pampa, as well as a number of years in Borger. In 1961, after moving to Tulare, Calif., they purchased the Pfaff Motel and operated the business together until the death of her husband in 1974. She then moved to Bartlesville to care for her best friend - her Mother. In 2000, after her Mother's passing, she moved to Dumas to be near her daughter and son-in-law. Her zest for life endured many hardships and personal losses. To know her was truly to love her. Her brilliant sense of humor, love for family and life itself were overshadowed only by her tremendous gift of generosity. AND - everyone just loved her down-home cooking - especially when she was "building pies"! When asked, she would credit all of these wonderful characteristics to her undying faith in the Lord. She became a Christian in 1949, and was an active member of First Baptist Church for many years. She is loved dearly and will be greatly missed by all family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three daughters, Jeri Wright, Patricia Mostoufi and Kathryn Milligan; a son, James "Herby" Dean Pfaff; and a brother, Jack Burgess. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Batson, pastor, and Jess Armas, brother-in-law, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Verlin was born June 4, 1933, in Two Buttes, Colo. He served his country in the Army with great dedication, and received an honorable discharge. In the mid-1950s, Verlin worked for Hill Motor Freight while he earned his BBA degree from West Texas A&M University. After his graduation he was the Amarillo manager for William Volker Home Furnishings, and later was the manager of the Towne Crier Steakhouse. Verlin founded Amarillo Deep Steam Carpet Cleaning, where he was the owner for many years. At the time of his death, Verlin was a member of the Henry Brown Sunday school class at First Baptist Church of Amarillo. He was intrigued with anything on wheels, especially old cars and motorcycles. He paid close attention to cars in movies, and you could guarantee he knew which type they were. Verlin was a devoted husband, father and friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Verlin passed away after a brief illness with cancer. Survivors left to cherish his memories are his wife, Carol Ann Vaughn of Amarillo; two sons, Victor Vaughn of Phoenix and Everett Vaughn of Amarillo; a foster son, Tommie Cannedy of Austin; two brothers, Les Vaughn of Portland, Ore., and Al Vaughn of Maupin, Ore.; two sisters, Marjorie Eldred of Buckley, Wash., and Mona Armas of Salem, Ore.; three grandchildren by choice, Michelle Langley, Alex Sengsoury and Andrew Cannedy; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Lasher graduated with a BA from West Texas State University in art. She was a talented artist, specializing in watercolor. She was co-owner with her first husband, Frank Hodnik, in their insurance business, known as the Frank Hodnik Agency and later as Insurance Associates Inc., until his death on Sept. 7, 1980. She was a substitute teacher for AISD and also was involved in the HOSTS Program. She married Myron Lasher on April 8, 1988. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Charles McCollom. Survivors include her husband, Myron L. Derrell Collin Henry, 87, a loving husband, father and grandfather died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at home following a prolonged illness. For many years, he was a respected member of the Texas banking industry and influenced the careers of many young bankers across Texas. He was born Sept. 12, 1919, in Floyd County to Melvin and Bessie Gregory Henry, graduated from Crosbyton High School in 1936 and lived in Texas his entire life with the exception of his military service during World War II. After graduation, he worked as administrative officer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and married Exie Lee Henry, the love of his life, on Oct. 12, 1940, prior to joining the Army Air Force. During the war, he was assigned to the Budget and Fiscal Division, 33rd Statistical Control Unit attached to the 20th Air Force, both domestically and overseas, and was honorably discharged with the rank of technical sergeant in February 1946. After his military service, he returned to Texas and served as assistant secretary treasurer of the Memphis and Lubbock Production Credit Associations before beginning his banking career by joining the American National Bank of Amarillo as vice president and director in 1950. His civic involvement included service as president of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce in 1966 and as a director for more than 20 years; director of the Permian Basin Oil Show; director of the Sandhills Hereford and Quarter Horse Show; vice chairman of the Medical Center Hospital Development Corp.; chairman of the board of the Odessa Industrial Development Corp.; president of the Odessa Community Chest and United Fund; director of the Odessa Family YMCA; board chairman of the Salvation Army - Odessa; director of the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum - Odessa; member of the President's Council of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin; chairman of the Board of Adjustment - Village of Lakeway; chairman of the Convention Study Committee - Village of Lakeway; and president and 8th District governor of the National Association of American Business Clubs.
