Though her mother went to family in Canyon for the birth of this first child, they spent the next years on different ranches. Only when Patricia was 3 years old did the family move to a home in Hereford. Her dad still worked on area ranches, coming home only on rare and short occasions. Patricia attended West Texas State College, receiving a B.A. degree in 1938 and her M.A. degree in 1960. She studied in Saltillo, Mexico, in Mexico City, at Texas Woman's University in Denton and at Texas Tech in Lubbock. She began her teaching career in Groom in 1938 and taught there for three years. Patricia was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was an active and participating member until the last few years. In the first years, she helped the primary department with a class and then Sunday morning worship programs. Later she served as a deacon, was on the worship committee and the nominating committee, attended the women's Bible study and studied the Bethel Series program. She was always particularly interested that the church be a family-oriented church. Patricia was a wonderful wife and mother, and thought the world of her family.
