Sisk Sue D. Sisk, 71, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with Jerry Webb officiating. Private family entombment will be in Llano Cemetery Garden Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mrs. Sisk was born Aug. 26, 1935, in Amarillo, was raised here and lived here all of her life. She graduated from Amarillo High School and attended Amarillo College. She married R.O. Sisk on Aug. 21, 1952, in Amarillo. She worked for the Texas Employment Commission for 30 years before retiring. Mrs. Sisk loved to travel and loved being "Granny" to her granddaughter. Survivors include her husband, R.O. Sisk; a daughter, Shelley Barron and husband Rick of Amarillo; a sister, Pauline Gephart of Amarillo; and a granddaughter, Bailey Barron of Amarillo. Hughes St. Mary L. Allen was born June 30, 1937, to Willie and Louise Craig Young. She attended public school in Clarendon. After moving to Amarillo, she married Eddie Allen. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and the Women's Adult Sunday school class. Survivors include a son, Benny Clark of Dallas; four daughters, Sandra Craig of Moore, Okla., Celesinte Allen of Fort Worth and Josette Allen and Angelique Allen, both of Amarillo; five brothers, Forest Lee of California, L.D. He was a cook and part owner of the China Inn. Braxton Bobbie "B.E." Braxton, 79, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Robert Field officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery East. Mr. Braxton was born July 9, 1927, in McLean. He was a U.S. Marine and a veteran of World War II. Mr. Braxton was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1475 in Amarillo. He was a member of the USS Atlanta CL 104 reunion association. He was also a member of United Transportation Union Enginemen. After 37 years of service, Mr. Braxton retired from Santa Fe Railway as a locomotive engineer. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Sunny Braxton; a son, Gary Braxton and wife Janet of Amarillo; a daughter, Lynette Croft and husband Don of Arlington; and a stepson, Dana Kulow of Amarillo. Betty Jo was born March 28, 1932, in Ponca City, Okla., and moved to the Amarillo area in 1954. She worked at the Quarter Horse for 26 years as a bookkeeper, and then worked as a home health care nurse until her retirement. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother, who truly loved her family. She lived for them. She enjoyed collecting teddy bears, going on drives and loved fashion. Betty Jo was an energetic person full of life. She was an unselfish person, always putting others ahead of herself. Her grandchildren were her life. She loved the Lord, and was a member of Family Worship Center. Survivors include Frank Hussey; two daughters, Lisa Ann Moore and husband Jerry of Bedford and Debra Lynn Davis and husband Bob of Amarillo; two grandsons, Michael Jerrod Davis and Matthew George Mayes, both of Amarillo; three granddaughters, Aimee Michelle Moore and Lauren Allyn Moore, both of Bedford, and Jamie Lynn Jabalera of Amarillo; and five great-grandchildren. Phillips, 83, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Chaplain John Elser of Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery East Mausoleum with military rites by the U.S. Army, Fort Hood. Clyde J. Phillips died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at the Amarillo VA Nursing Home. Clyde was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Oklahoma, the youngest of five boys. Clyde and his family moved to Gilbert, Ariz., where he graduated from Gilbert High School. While in Arizona, Clyde met and married Marie Norris, his wife of 63 years. Shortly after he married Marie, Clyde enlisted in the Army and fought in two theaters in World War II as a staff sergeant in the 168th Infantry, a unit of the 34th (Red Bull) Division. He was twice awarded the Bronze Star for valor in combat and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in battle. He received a battlefield commission and achieved the rank of second lieutenant before returning home from the war. After military service, Clyde began his working career with the Rainbow Bread Co., where he worked for more than 30 years. Clyde, his wife Marie, and their three children, Jim, Annette, and Michael, lived in Arizona, California, Texas and Colorado, where he became the president of the bread bakery in Denver. After retiring from Rainbow, Clyde came to Amarillo and worked as the president of Meads bread bakery. After working for Meads, he moved to New Orleans where he and his sons, Jim and Michael, created a successful coffee business. After living in New Orleans, Clyde and Marie returned to Amarillo, where they retired. They were longtime members of Southwest Church of Christ, where they were very active. Clyde loved the game of golf and played avidly until he was physically unable to. He was a man who had unlimited energy and always gave his all. He had a great sense of humor and will be sorely missed by all the lives he touched. He was preceded in death by four brothers; and a son, Jim Phillips. Survivors include his wife, Marie Phillips of Amarillo; a daughter, Annette Miller and son-in-law, Bob Miller of Comanche; a son, Michael Phillips and daughter-in-law, Barbara Phillips of Fort Collins, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Earl Talmage Smith Earl Talmage Smith, 86, of Amarillo died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church with Monsignor Joseph Tash officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Earl Talmage Smith, known to many as Sleepy, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, of natural causes. He was born June 12, 1920, in Amarillo, where he resided the majority of his full life. In 1941, he entered the Air Force division of the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he eventually patrolled the North African coastline before winning command of all the allied radar stations in Corsica and Sardinia during World War II. He was commissioned lieutenant colonel at the age of 25. Within weeks of the end of that war, he piloted a P-61 Black Widow to a world speed record. It was in the Air Force that he continued not only his lifelong love of aviation, but formed friendships with many of the future titans of American business. After leaving the Air Force, he flew for Chicago-based Slick Airways for two years. His Air Force connections led to a job flying for the prominent drilling contractor, Howard P. Holmes, where he embraced the oil and gas business and was made general manager of that company until he returned to Amarillo in 1953. Horizon Oil and Gas Co. and Crest Exploration were some of his first venture before becoming an independent oil and gas operator under the name of Earl T. Smith and Associates in 1956. As well, he continued his love for aviation and entrepreneurship and started Century Aircraft Corp., with Rayjay as a division in 1972, later patenting the Century conversion for Citation jets. In the 1970s, he developed the Sleepy Hollow subdivision of Amarillo. But, apart from his business accomplishments, he will probably be best remembered by his love of the game of golf, and was one of the original members of the Vintage Club in Indian Wells, Calif., and Castle Pines outside Denver. Survivors include his wife, Susanne Carder Smith; a sister, Lois Smith Conway; daughters, Julie Shelton Smith, Elizabeth Smith Boston and Janie Talmage Smith; two stepchildren, Carolyn Carder Smith and Mark Stephen Carder; and five grandchildren, Ann Elise McCaffrey, Robert William Boston III, Lindsay Sue Carder, Travis Allen Carder and Lexi Susanne Smith. Bill was born July 17, 1964, in Roanoke, Va., to William and Edith Authenrieth. The family moved to Amarillo in 1973. In 1982 he graduated from Palo Duro High School, and went to work for his shop teacher at A.B. Fincher Body Shop, where he worked until his death. Mr. Godfrey was born Jan. 24, 1927, in Granite, Okla., to John and Pauline Godfrey, and came to Dimmitt as a child. On Jan. 4, 1947, he married Polly Young of Hereford. He lived in Castro County for 20 years. He loved the land and making things grow and spent most of his years in agriculture-related work. Having farmed and ranched in Dimmitt, Eva, Okla., and Clayton, N.M., he moved to Dumas in 1986. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pauline Godfrey; and two sisters, Faye Bloom and Argie McDonald. She worked as a bookkeeper for Midwest Implements for 15 years and for the Channing school until she retired in May 2001. She was a member of First Assembly of God in Dumas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Bertie Baumann; her husband, Willmer Crain; her stepmother, Alice Baumann; a sister, Jo Newland; and a granddaughter, Tara Crain. He was a 1940 graduate of Pampa High School and graduated from New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, N.M. He served in the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II in the European Theater, and he was discharged as a first lieutenant. He married Nancy Teichgraeber on Nov. 2, 1946, in Emporia, Kan. He was a longtime Gray County rancher and independent oil producer. He was a past president of the Panhandle Producers & Royalty Owners Association, and a director of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association for 35 years. He was a past commander of the American Legion Post. He was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, where he was a former senior warden in the vestry. He was a former Boy Scout Explorer post leader. He was formerly active in the Top O' Texas Rodeo Association and was past president of the Golden Spread Ostomy Association. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Rinehart. Jenkins CLAYTON, N.M. - Dr. Michael L. Jenkins, 61, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Directors. Dr. Michael L. Jenkins was born Feb. 23, 1945, in Seattle to E.C. "Hi" Jenkins and Ada Lu Kimble Jenkins. They moved to Clayton when Dr. Jenkins was very young. He attended school in Clayton and graduated from Clayton High School in 1963. He married Pam Hepplewhite on Dec. 21, 1968, in Albuquerque. Dr. Jenkins received his undergraduate degree from the University of New Mexico and then his medical degree from the University of New Mexico Medical School. He served his internship at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, and then received his surgical training from Louisiana State University-Shreveport Medical Center. Dr. Jenkins then practiced medicine in Clayton and served on the medical staff of Union County General Hospital in Clayton from 1981 until his death. He was one of the original members of the Union County Community Development Corp. and served as a City Council member for six years. He was preceded in death by his father on Sept. 25, 2000, and his mother on Sept. 17, 2002.
