Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Panhandle Church of Christ with Leonard Harper of San Jacinto Church of Christ and John Dale Kelly, elder, officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. Mr. Humphrey was born Oct. 30, 1933, in McLean County, Ky. He had been a resident of Panhandle for 36 years. He was a farmer for many years in Kentucky and Texas, owned a welding shop in Panhandle, and most recently was a truck driver for Plains Transportation in Amarillo. He was a captain in the Kentucky National Guard, where he served for 15 years. He was a great storyteller, loved to fish and, most of all, loved his family and his grandchildren. The family wishes to express special thanks to Annette and Betty and all the wonderful nurses at BSA Hospice, as well as Pam, Kristy and Sue of Pampa BSA Hospice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Fara Humphrey; two sisters, Mary Linda Turner and Ruth Edds; and a granddaughter, Carson Harding. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Sandra Humphrey; three daughters, Felecia Brewer and husband Dave of Amarillo, Denise Doggett and husband Jesse of Mesa, Ariz., and Jennifer Hall and husband Wesley of Panhandle; two sons, Chris Humphrey and wife Christine of Fort Collins, Colo., and Corey Humphrey and wife Jenny of Lubbock; a brother, Hubert Humphrey of Falls of the Rough, Ky.; two sisters, Julia James of Johnson City, Tenn., and Mildred Niceley of Adrian, Mich.; and 19 grandchildren. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105 or to the High Plains Children's Home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jimmie Pronger STRATFORD - Jimmie Pronger, 85, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gene Weinette, pastor, officiating and Steve Baskin, longtime family friend, assisting. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Pronger was born May 2, 1921, in Lindale, Smith County, to Henry and Inez Adams Herring. She graduated from Tyler Junior College and Sam Houston State Teachers College. Jimmie taught elementary school in the Tyler area. She married Alfred Pronger Jr. on June 8, 1947, in Tyler. Alfred and Jimmie settled on the Pronger Bros. Ranch in Sherman County, where they have lived for 59 years. Jimmie was a homemaker and was very active in the community. She was a charter member of the Prospectus Study Club and was a Top of Texas District life member. Jimmie was active in Study Club fundraisers to build a new Sherman County Library and was instrumental in getting SCOT (Sherman County Older Texans) started. She also enjoyed many years in Sherman County Extension Clubs and 4-H work. She was honored both as Clubwoman of the Year and 4-H Leader of the Year. Jimmie Pronger was a member of First United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school and worked with the youth fellowship groups. She was active in the Women's Society of Christian Service for many years and held several offices. She was an avid supporter of the scouting programs, both for girls and boys. Jimmie was district and neighborhood chairman for Girl Scouts and was a Cub Scout den mother for seven years. Jimmie was also active in the county historical committee and volunteered at the Sherman County Museum. She helped write "God, Grass and Grit," a history of Sherman County. Jimmie served on the Sherman County Library Board and volunteered with local literacy and pre-school programs. She was known and loved far and wide as "Mimmie" to all of her children and grandchildren and their families and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters; a brother; and a half brother. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Jana Pronger of Borger and Jill Killian and husband John of Stratford; three sons, Fred Pronger and wife Marsha and Jeff Pronger, all of Stratford, and David Pronger and wife Karen of Burleson; eight grandchildren, Janell Miller and husband Jason of Aspermont, Patrick Pronger and wife Sarah of Sunray, Katie, Kavan, Blaine and Bryce Killian, all of Stratford, and Caroline and Brent Pronger, both of Burleson; and a great-grandson, Landry Miller of Aspermont. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 30, 2006 Amarillo Vivian Fern Slagle Thomas Vivian Fern Slagle Thomas, 94, of Amarillo died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, in Lubbock. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church with Tommy Ewing, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Thomas was born July 15, 1912, in Worth County, Mo., to Lura Owlet Shaw and Dillard Lee Slagle. In 1918, she and her family moved to Panhandle. Vivian graduated from Panhandle High School in 1929. She went to Draughon's Business College in Lubbock and graduated in 1939. After graduation, she worked for a dairy farm in Lubbock keeping their books. In the early 1940s, she returned to Panhandle to work at Carson County Courthouse and Triple A Agricultural Administration. In the late 1940s, she moved to Amarillo to work for the Bureau of Reclamation. In 1954, Vivian went to work for the Amarillo Air Force Base, working as a civil service employee until 1969. Serving next as office manager for Drs. Sansing, Sticksel, McCarty and Cowan, she retired in 1982. Upon retirement, Vivian gave countless volunteer hours to Ronald McDonald House and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Vivian married the late Garnett Elon Thomas on March 3, 1951. She was an active member of Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by an older brother, Belmont Slagle and wife Bonnie of Panhandle, and a younger brother, Francis Slagle, whose wife Joyce still lives in White Deer. Survivors include a daughter, Sherrie Fern Thomas Green and husband Robert Edward Green of Midland. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Jennifer Ann Green and Elizabeth Ann Green Delaney and husband Craig, all of Atlanta, and twin grandsons, Kurt Taylor Green and Christopher Thomas Green, attending the University of Texas in Austin. Vivian was aunt to David Lee Slagle and wife Karine of DeSoto, Johnny Al Slagle and wife Rebecca of Aguascalientes, Mexico, Fran Slagle Leiss and husband John of Austin and Wiley Kim Slagle and wife Dobbie of Bandera. He grew up in Spring Creek and graduated from Borger High School and Texas Tech University. Mr. Phillips served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was with Texaco for more than 30 years as a petroleum engineer and safety coordinator. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Phillips married Dixie Jean Fraley on June 10, 1967, in Borger. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Shan Phillips and wife Katrina and Cade Phillips and wife Shelley, all of Amarillo; two sisters, Jean Elledge and husband Harold of Farmington, N.M., and Melba Acheson and husband Denny of Omaha, Neb.; and two grandchildren, Jody and Megan.
