One of his passions in life was baseball. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Bryant was born in Horstel, Germany, on July 17, 1924, to John William and Gertrude Frische Kuhles. Her family immigrated to Umbarger in May 1928. She graduated from West Texas High School at Canyon in 1942 and attended Draughon's Business College. She married James H. "Jim" or "Shorty" Bryant on Nov. 27, 1945. She and her husband started Shorty's Bear Safety Service in 1960. After her husband's death in 1965, Mrs. Bryant focused on raising their six children. She resumed her career as a secretary at Blessed Sacrament Church and retired from Amarillo High School in 1981. After her retirement, she spent time enjoying her family, doing the banking for Shorty's Bear Safety Service, crocheting and reading. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law, Price Hargrove; a sister, Gisela Kuhles; and a brother, Karlchen Kuhles. Bell St. Mr. Smith was born Sept. 6, 1976, in Amarillo. Jeff died after a lengthy battle with kidney disease. He enjoyed watching the Houston Texans and Texas Longhorns as well as going to car shows. Jeff was a loving and sincere son, brother and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother and grandfather, Geneva and James P. Maloy; and an uncle, John Maloy in 2003. Crumrine Bernice M. Crumrine, 92, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006. Memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Mrs. Crumrine was born Feb. 18, 1914, in Temple. She was reared in Sweetwater and attended public school in Sweetwater. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio, many years ago and came to Amarillo in 2005 to live and be with her sisters. Both of her sisters passed away in 2005, Laura L. Burrell on Sept. 2, 2005, and Ferlean McPherson on Nov. 16, 2005. Survivors include a niece, LaShawn Matthews Perry of Arlington and other relatives. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anise Tourk Anise Tourk, 55, of Amarillo died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Kevin Dotson of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating and Leslie Richardson as facilitator. Anise was born Nov. 25, 1950, in Damascus, Syria, to Fiaz and Fatima Tourk. He was raised by his dear grandmother until she died when he was 14, then Anise lived on his own. He came to the United States with his young family in 1976, living in Washington, D.C. In 1997, he would become a U.S. citizen, knowing more about American history than most of us who grew up here. It was following the sudden death of his beloved wife and daughter that Anise moved to Texas in 1979. He attended Mary Hardin Baylor, studying psychology and religion. Living in the Amarillo area since the early '90s, Anise worked for Hastings, United Way and AIG Insurance, and enjoyed his own successful computer business. But his most important contributions were the gifts of his time, love and heart to countless people and organizations. He had a special tenderness for needy children and the elderly, but had the greatest love for his family and especially adored his grandson, Kamal. He loved food and cooked the most delicious Mediterranean (Greek) dishes, but his greatest passion of all was his music. He listened to everything from Beethoven to Eric Clapton, and owned every B.B. King album ever made. Anise's door was open to everyone and he cared for them all as if they were his own. He will be so very missed by his family and friends. Special love to Allison, Cynthia, Jessica, Bobby, Tiffany and Andrew. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn, and his wife, Almaz, both on Dec. 20, 1978; his American adopted mother, Barbara Dowlen, in 2001; and a brother, Ahmad Tourk, in 1952. Miller, 86, of Amarillo died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Dru Ferguson officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Oak Grove Memorial Cemetery in Irving. Mr. Miller was born July 27, 1920, in Collinwood, Tenn., to Samuel and Octa Miller. He graduated from Collinwood High School and went on to attend business college. He married Ruth Carpenter on April 16, 1944, in Texarkana. He began his career with United Transport and later with Jack Cooper Transport as the terminal manager that lasted 49 years until his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed yard work and took pride in his yard. First and foremost was the great love he held for his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998; three sisters; and two brothers. Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl White and husband Larry of Irving and Janet Varela of Amarillo; two sons, Forrest Miller of Los Angeles and Joseph Carl Miller of Denver; a brother, Newt Miller of Florence, Ala; eight grandchildren, Rebecca, Wade, Regina, Rachel, Lisa, Jose, John and Anthony; 14 great-grandchildren; and his special companion, Ivy, his Boston terrier. Perkins Jr., 83, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Childress Cemetery with the Rev. Kerry Wood officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Perkins was born April 2, 1923, in Paducah to Maidie Woodley Perkins and Clyde E. Perkins Sr. He grew up in Tennessee Valley and Kirkland. While attending Texas A&M University in College Station, Mr. Perkins enlisted in the Army Air Forces on Dec. 15, 1942, during World War II combat with Japan. He served as an airplane electrical mechanic specialist. He was stationed in Guam, Okinawa and Quadline Island. After receiving an honorable discharge on April 4, 1946, as a disabled veteran, Mr. Perkins returned to Childress County, where he farmed in Kirkland and Chalk. Mr. Perkins was gentle, kind and caring, and never turned down helping others. He was a loving and loyal son devoted to the care of his parents. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include a brother, James R. Perkins of Oak Leaf; three sisters, Maidelle Mitchell of Denver, Mary Frances Lovelace of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Shirley Alexander of Weatherford; three nieces; and three nephews. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thelma Catherine Eubank SUNRAY - Thelma Catherine Eubank, 97, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Sunray Church of Christ with Jim York, minister of Stinnett Church of Christ, officiating, and Shawn Davis, minister of Sunray Church of Christ, and Dennis Cady of Wichita Falls assisting. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Eubank was born April 17, 1909, in a dugout in Hansford County to Andrew G. and Laura C. Barnes Browder. She was married to Beebe Eubank from October 1923 to 1951. They farmed in Texas north of Sunray. In the 1930s they homesteaded 160 acres of land in New Mexico. In 1951, Mrs. Eubank moved to Pontiac, Mich., where she attended business college. Upon the completion of her studies, she worked as a secretary for Motor Car Transport Co. for 10 years. Mrs. Eubank then decided to do mission work for the Church of Christ. In 1962, Mrs. Eubank went to Southeast Asia for 14 years as a missionary, serving in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. When she returned to the states in 1976, she retired to Sunray. She was a member of Sunray Church of Christ, where she taught a ladies class for many years. She worked as a "Grandmother Volunteer" for Sunray Elementary School in the VIPS program (Volunteers in Public Schools), where Mrs. Eubank read stories to students, and in turn, they read stories to her. Mrs. Eubank also worked with Meals on Wheels until her health prohibited her from working. "Her children rise up and call her blessed." (Proverbs 31:28a) Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Laura Browder; three brothers, William Luther Browder, Andrew Wesley Browder and Roy Wood Browder; a sister, Julia Helen Sparks; a daughter, Thelma Hazell McRae; two sons, Dudley Luther Eubank and Roy Wesley Eubank; a son-in-law, Joe Crenshaw; and two granddaughters, Jean Crenshaw and Shannon Eubank. Survivors include a son-in-law, Loye McRae of Sunray; Gwin and Paul Barnum of Sebring, Fla.; Betty Crenshaw of Sunray; and Andrew and Wilma Eubank of Canadian. She was blessed with 25 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 30 great-great-grandchildren who will miss her. She is also survived by her church family and a host of family and friends. Douglas was born April 22, 1925, in Eldorado, Okla., to Ira and Ima Lawrence. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served as a medic in World War II until 1946. He owned and operated Lawrence Furniture in Dumas from 1971 to 1988. He was a member of First Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Louise Lawrence; and a great-grandchild, Jay Douglas Lawrence. Burial with military honors will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mr. Lockeby was born April 27, 1977, in Memphis to Lonnie C. and Becky June Rogers Lockeby. He had lived much of his life in Clarendon before moving to Dowagiac about eight years ago. He was self-employed as an auto mechanic, and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Clarendon. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Lakeview by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Martin was born Dec. 30, 1913, in Cook County to Eli and Vira Davis Floyd. She married Aubrey Martin in January 1933 in Lakeview. She had been a resident of Brice and Hall County most of her life. She was very influential as being a missionary. She helped feed children in Africa and Kenya. She also helped establish a Christian-oriented library in Kenya. She was involved in anything that was educational or spiritual. She always was meeting the needs of the Brice community. She was a compassionate lady and served selflessly. She also ministered to the people at Memphis Convalescent Center during her time there. She loved the lord, her family and the community. She was a homemaker and a member of Community Fellowship Church in Clarendon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Aug. 11, 1982; two brothers; two sisters; and a grandson, Blaine McWhirter. (Malesheski) Boberg LAMPASAS - Raymond W. (Malesheski) Boberg, 89, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, in Temple. Memorial services were Oct. 28 in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mr. Boberg's body was donated to medical research at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Arrangements were by Sneed Funeral Chapel. Ray was born Jan. 28, 1917, and had lived in numerous places in the United States and Canada until the late 1940s, when he started a printing business in Winona, Wis. Ray married Joyce Bartle on Jan. 11, 1963. He moved his family and business to Amarillo in 1963, where he lived until 2004. In May 2004, Ray moved to Lampasas, where his nephew, Alvin W. Boberg, and family reside. Survivors include a son, Tom Boberg and wife Tonya of Amarillo; and two grandsons, Fredrick Boberg and Blake Hill. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Barbara "Carlene" Helm Messer LUBBOCK - Barbara "Carlene" Helm Messer, 74, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006. Memorial services of celebration will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with Dr. D.L. Lowrie officiating. Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Home. Barbara "Carlene" Helm Messer entered this life Oct. 5, 1932, and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at 74 years young. Carlene was the second of three children born to Carl and Ellen Helm. She grew up in Fort Worth with her two brothers, Herbie and Don Helm. She cherished her family and the memories of her childhood vacations. Carlene loved the Lord with all her heart and decided from a young age to dedicate her life to him. She was baptized on Easter Sunday when she was 16 years old. She graduated from Arlington Heights High School in the spring of 1951 and moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University, where she met her husband. Gene and Carlene were married Feb. 23, 1952; she said marrying Mr. Messer was her greatest accomplishment. They were blessed with a son and a daughter, and she took such great pride in watching them grow up into beautiful adults. Carlene was blessed to be able to stay home with her children and she proudly stood alongside her husband as he built his automobile empire. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her many wonderful friends and writing. She was a very involved member of First Baptist Church of Lubbock. She was an active part of the Women's Missionary Union and helped with the English as a second language program for a number of years. She had the vision for "Penny Sunday" and helped implement the offering, which continues still today. Carlene also worked on the board and was instrumental in starting the Prayer Chapel at First Baptist. She constantly ministered to her family and friends. She was a quiet background servant and did so much for so many people without ever wanting any recognition. Carlene was a loving, caring, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend. Through her writings, she closed this chapter of her life in her own words, "Dreams of life filled with love, joy, blessings from God - What more could I ask for!" Carlene was reunited in Heaven with her parents, Carl and Ellen Helm; her big brother, Herbie Helm; her and Gene's faithful caregiver and friend, Mark Reagan; and many cherished friends. Survivors include a long list of loved ones, first and foremost her devoted husband of 54 years, Gene Messer; her loving son, Michael Messer and his beautiful wife, Christy; her loyal daughter, Michele Messer Martin and husband Larry; seven beloved grandchildren, Sara, Amy and Lauren Messer, Brandon Guinn and wife Sherrill, Tarah Guinn Walter and husband Rick, Carisa Clayton and husband Cole and Meagan Martin; six great-grandchildren, Dylon, Hunter, Connor, Alex, Colby and Ian; a brother, Don Helm and his wife Carol; a sister- in-law, Phala Helm; four nephews, Craig, Darren, Matthew, Christian and their families; her wonderful caregivers, Debra, Liz, Rita, Angie and Rene; and a countless number of cherished friends. Services were private. Arrangements were by Geo. H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Directors of Houston. Mr. Lilla was born Sept. 14, 1924, to Lucretia Sloan and Henry Allen Lillia Sr. in Kansas City, Mo. Hal attended the Albany Academy in Albany, N.Y,, Georgia Military College, the University of Missouri and the University of Mexico in Mexico City. Following college he worked for radio station NBC-KMJ in Fresno, Calif. He worked for Cabot Corp. in Boston, Charleston, W.Va., Pampa and Houston, where he retired in 1987 after 36 years of service. Music, from being in numerous choral groups and musical productions to his love of opera, played an important role in his life. He was an avid world traveler with special interests in medieval art, history, Aztec and Mayan cultures and archaeology. The family wishes to extend special thanks to his guardian and longtime friend, Dan Mahanay of Pampa, for his unwavering care, especially during these last difficult years. Services were May 20 in Our Lady of Cenacle Church. Burial of cremains was Thursday in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas. Amarillo arrangements were by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. She was buried alongside her mother and stepfather, Margie and Roosevelt Allen. Billie was born Jan. 28, 1931, in Greenville, Texas, to Margie and Willie Ganaway. Her early years and education were in Amarillo. After receiving her B.A. in sociology, she moved to Chicago. She later moved to New York and was employed as a social worker for the state. Upon receiving her master's in sociology, she specialized in working with handicapped children. In Amarillo, she was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, her mother and her stepfather. Survivors include a cousin, Dr. and Mrs. Kain R.
