Georgia St. Ms. Hoyler was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Shamrock to Clarence and Irene Ward. She owned and operated Bette's of Pampa and Bette's Plus of Amarillo for more than 20 years. She was a devoted mother whose memory will be cherished. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Hoyler and partner Lynn Gibson of Amarillo; a son, David Hoyler and wife Ruth of Amarillo; a daughter, Dana Hoyler and partner Ron Milner of Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, Deni Reid and husband Branch of Amarillo; a sister, Barbara Paschal of Bridgeport; a brother, Jim Ward of Pampa; her children's father, Ernest Hoyler of Unionville, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Wayne Jones. Mrs. Rankin was formerly of Salem, Pa. She married Ira A. Rankin in Maryville, N.Y., on Jan. 7, 1932. He preceded her in death in 2000. Mrs. Rankin assisted her daughter and son-in-law with Life Challenge for five years, where she served as a seamstress and Grandma to everybody. Mr. Brown was a life member of the VFW in New Haven, Conn. He served his country as a fireman in the Navy during World War II and was awarded the Victory Medal, American Area and Good Conduct medals. He loved boating and picnicking with his family. He was a creative man of many talents. Mr. Brown was also a member of Jehovah's Witness Quail Creek Congregation. Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Clarendon College Harned Sisters Fine Arts Auditorium with the Rev. Darrell Burton, pastor of Martin Baptist Church, and the Rev. Milton Gage, family member, officiating. Additional overflow seating will be in the Clarendon College Bairfield Activity Center. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mr. Hawkins was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Hobart, Okla., to Cecil "Spud" and Vera Wilkes Hawkins. He attended school in Higgins and graduated from Higgins High School in 1953. He married Glenda Borden on June 3, 1960, in Clarendon. Jerry went on to receive his bachelor's degree in animal science from Texas Tech University in 1957, and then his master's degree in agriculture education from Texas Tech University in 1964. He had been a resident of Clarendon since 1968. Mr. Hawkins had taught at many schools during his career as an agriculture teacher. He had taught at Clarendon, Groom and Spearman high schools, and then taught at Clarendon College from 1968 to August 2003. While at Clarendon College, Mr. Hawkins was the chair of the Agriculture Department; coached the livestock judging teams from 1974-2003; initiated the ranch portion of the Ranch & Feedlot Program; initiated the Horse and Meats Judging Program; was director of Area I FFA Leadership Camp, which was the largest in Texas; was coordinator of Clarendon College Invitational Judging Contest, which draws 2,000 high school students from five states; was coordinator of Greenbelt, Top of Texas and Amarillo District FFA Leadership events; was coordinator of Area I Leadership Contest; judged livestock shows at five state fairs and in Chihuahua, Mexico; and was the recruiter for academic and vocational programs at Clarendon College. Mr. Hawkins also coached many national championship judging teams while at Clarendon College. His judgers came to be known as "Jerry's Kids." He then worked at New Mexico State University as a recruiter for the College of Agriculture and Home Economics. Mr. Hawkins had many awards during his life as well. He received the State Farmer Award from the Texas FFA, was president of the Clarendon Lions Club from 1974-1975, president of the National Jr. College Livestock Coaches Association from 1983-1985, named Outstanding Alumni Texas Tech Block and Bridle 1986-1987, West Texas A&M University Round Up Award in 1994, Outstanding Clarendon College Employee 1996-1997, Texas Vocational-Agriculture Teachers Association Outstanding Service 45-year service award in 2005, Clarendon College Employee of the Year in 1998, Panhandle District Friend of Extension in 2000, Clarendon Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 2000, Texas Tech Distinguished Animal Science Alumnus in 2001, Friend of Texas Hereford Association in 2001, Texas FFA Blue & Gold Award in 2002, selected as judge for Performance Simmental Shows in 2002, New Mexico State FFA Honorary State FFA Member. He was a member of First Christian Church in Clarendon. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Glenda; two sons, Doug Hawkins and wife Daphne of Cleburne and Dean Hawkins and wife Jaye of Las Cruces, N.M.; a sister, Gwen Cochran of Oklahoma City; a brother, Jack Hawkins of Cameron; and five grandchildren. Lamoine Weston "Blackie" Blacklock, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, following a lengthy but courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. "Blackie" was born March 30, 1923, in Munday. After serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, he returned to Munday to Blacklock's Grocery, a family business. Upon retiring from the U.S. Postal Service in Arlington, he enjoyed living at Lake O'the Pines and traveling. He was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Flora Lee and Ben Blacklock; and a sister, LaRue Blacklock.
