Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Roy Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Llano Mausoleum. Gladys was born March 22, 1913, to Henry and Winnie Allen in Centralia, Mo. She married Ralph Cox on March 29, 1931, in Centralia. They moved to Amarillo in 1944. She was a homemaker and a partner in her husband's business. She was member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Special thanks to all who have given loving care to her from Goodcare Healthcare and the Odyssey Hospice team. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four sisters; and a brother. Survivors include a daughter, Jean Neel of Amarillo; two granddaughters, Sherri Evans and husband Joel of Montrose, Colo., and Lesa Lemke and husband Marc of Plano; and four great-grandchildren. Clark Daniel Janet L. Clark Daniel, 52, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in The Church at Quail Creek with Dr. Stan Coffey officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Daniel was born Aug. 28, 1954, in Roswell, N.M., to Woods and Marie Clark. She graduated from Roswell High School in 1973. She graduated from New Mexico State University in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in education. She also served as an officer in Chi Omega sorority. She received her master's degree in education from West Texas State University in 1985. She married Doug Daniel on June 25, 1977, in Roswell. She was a special education teacher at Crockett Middle School. In August 1988, she started with Region 16 Educational Service Center as Direct Services Migrant Counselor/Parent Involvement Specialist. In August 1996, she became the Mental Wellness Specialist with Head Start. Janet retired from Region 16 Educational Service Center on April 30, 2006. She was a member of The Church at Quail Creek. Survivors include her husband, Doug Daniel; two daughters, Brittany Daniel of Houston and Meagan Daniel of San Antonio; two brothers, David Clark and Greg Clark, both of Roswell; her aunt and uncle, Max and Lois Burleson of San Antonio; an uncle, Robert Reid of Shreveport, La.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was "A gift from God." Box 2247, Amarillo, TX 79105. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- James William Perdue James William Perdue, 55, formerly of Amarillo, died earlier this month. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Amarillo. James, who some knew as Jim, was born July 22, 1951, in Amarillo. He was the first son, but the second of five children, born to Joe and Barbara Perdue. James attended Palo Duro High School, where he proudly served the school as drum major from 1969 to 1970. He married Charee Fassauer on July 2, 1971. In September 1974, they welcomed their first child and son, Jameson Perdue, and four years later in October, they welcomed their daughter, Charessa Perdue. In 1987, James and Charee were divorced, and James moved to Dallas to continue his business of Jim's Trim and start his own dent repair business, The Dent Stop. He later met and married Sarah Walker in December 1989. They divorced in 1995. James continued to work and live in the Dallas area and finally moved to where he could enjoy his favorite pastime on the water at Richland-Chambers Reservoir in Streetman. Some of James' favorite times were on the water either skiing or fishing. This love was first developed with his family in Fritch, where his parents had a home. Many summers the entire family spent camping and playing on the water at Lake Meredith. Survivors include a son, Jameson Perdue and wife Melody and grandson Brandon; a daughter, Charessa Koontz and husband Eric; his parents, Joe and Barbara Perdue; a brother, Jay Perdue and wife Vicki; three sisters, Jacque Thompson and husband Jim, Jayna Anglen and husband Russell and Jennifer Perdue; and 10 nieces and nephews, as well as their spouses and families. Howard Jr. Clarence R. Howard Jr., 79, of Amarillo died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Holley Funeral Home Chapel in Canyon with Glen Hendricks officiating. Mr. Howard was born July 5, 1927, to the Rev. Clarence R. Howard and Oleta Marvel Howard. He married Jimmie Ellison of Bovina on March 4, 1945. He retired from JC Penney Co. in 1987. He was a loving son, husband, father and grandpa. He will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Jimmie; a son, Doug Howard and wife Tysha of Amarillo; three granddaughters, Melissa Treiber and husband Greg and Cassandra Hendricks and husband Glen, all of Amarillo, and Dawn Boozer and husband David of Pilot Point; and eight great-grandchildren he adored. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Shiloh Cathedral of Praise with the Rev. B.F. Roberts Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Golden Gate Mortuary, 1416 N. Hughes St. Ray Thel Jones, a native of Amarillo, was born Oct. 12, 1952. He passed from this life on Nov. 27, 2006. Ray graduated from Palo Duro High School and attended Western New Mexico University in Silver City, where he played football, baseball and ran track on an athletic scholarship. He worked for BNSF and Track Work for more than 30 years. He was a member of Shiloh Cathedral of Praise. Ray was a dedicated husband, father, brother and friend. His concerns were for the welfare of others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May the Lord protect Ray in His arms until we see him again. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alberta Jones; his father, Odell B. Jones Sr.; and a daughter, Toni Woods. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Penley was born April 22, 1912, in Reed, Okla., to James S. and Julia Knight. She attended schools in Sulphur and Vinson, Okla. Ruby married Charlie McCracken, they lived in Amarillo and he preceded her in death. She then married Loyd Penley, and he also preceded her in death. She was involved in Journey Street Baptist Church and Sulphur Baptist Church. She was a very special aunt to her nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; and a sister. Survivors include a sister, Opal Peeler of Reed; and many special nieces and nephews. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arturis Ivran Spencer Sr. Arturis Ivran Spencer Sr., 80, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. John Baptist Church with Vurn Martin, pastor of Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Brother Arturis Ivran Spencer Sr. was called to be with his heavenly Father on Nov. 28, 2006. Mr. Spencer was born Jan. 14, 1926, to Samuel Lewis Spencer and Samantha Walker-Spencer in Clarksville, Red River County. His mother died when he was a young child. His father married Pearl Owens, who raised him and his brother Eugene. Mr. Spencer received Christ at an early age and became a dedicated member of Haywood Baptist Church in Clarksville. After moving to Amarillo he became a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Growing up during the Depression, he was unable to attend school. He and his younger brother, Eugene, contributed to the family by chopping wood. Eventually he was able to return to school completing his high school education and continuing his education at Center Point College for Young Men. Mr. Spencer served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He later received an honorable discharge. He returned to Clarksville to marry the love of his life, Jennie Bell Baty, on Nov. 7, 1949. Out of this union three children were born, Thelma, Arturis Jr, and Victoria. The young family moved to Amarillo, where Mr. Spencer began work at the Amarillo Bus Station. He also worked for Clower Construction and Pantex before making a career working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 13 years. He was presented with the opportunity to become the union representative for equal opportunities at Asarco, and he eagerly made the career move. This new career inspired him to get involved with his community and politics. He retired from Asarco, and he also worked for Amarillo College. Mr. Spencer believed that all people should be treated equally. He had strong political convictions and spoke up for what he believed in. He actively worked for civil rights and in the Democratic party, serving as a Democratic state representative. Mr. Spencer was a member of the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats and the North Amarillo Political Action Committee. He also served as the civil rights coordinator for the Amarillo Chapter of the NAACP until the mid-1970s. Mr. Spencer helped organize the Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church in the early 1950s, where he was a dedicated, faithful and active member, serving as the president of the choir, Sunday School Supper Attendant, trustee, treasurer and deacon. In addition to all of his official duties at the church, he also maintained the yard and worked as a handy man. Just as he eagerly served his community, he also served his church. He believed this was how he received his "extra" blessings. Pawpaw will be greatly missed! But his memory will continue to live on .... He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother; two sisters, Thelma Thompson and Hazel Sanford; a brother, Eugene Spencer; and a grandson, Brandon Malone. Survivors include his loving wife, Jennie Bell Spencer of Amarillo; a brother, Luke Walker of Dallas; a daughter, Thelma White and husband Frank Sr., a son, Arturis Spencer Jr. and wife of Ruby and a daughter, Victoria Spencer Greene and husband Michael, all of Amarillo; eight grandsons; a granddaughter; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gladys White Gladys White, 94, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with Dale Travis, pastor of Family Life Fellowship, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. White was born April 24, 1912, to George and Leota James in Crandall, Kan. Her mother passed away when she was 6 years old. She spent the next several years moving from one home to another as her father was unable to keep the family together after the death of his wife. Mrs. White's lifelong dream was to teach school, but she never finished her senior year of high school. In October 1930, she married Clyde Wescoat and moved to Amarillo. They had three children, Max Jewell Wescoat, who died when he was just over a year old, Margaret Nadine who was born in 1934, and in 1936 Wilma Marie was born. In 1943 Gladys attended the San Jacinto Beauty School and opened a beauty shop in her home. For the next 25 years she worked, raised her girls and was a devoted wife to Clyde. Clyde passed away in 1957. It was after Clyde's death that Gladys decided to return to school to complete her high school diploma. In 1961 she married Bill Hall. He supported her dream of continuing her education and in May 1966 Gladys graduated from Amarillo College and enrolled at West Texas State University. Bill passed away in 1967. In May 1968, Gladys graduated with a bachelor of arts degree and traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico, for emersion schooling in Spanish. She returned to the states and accepted a teaching position in McLean, where she taught for more than six years. Gladys then accepted a teaching position at River Road High School, where she taught ninth- and 10th-grade English and speech until her retirement. In 1976 she married C.B. White, they were married for seventeen years until his death in 1993. Although Gladys suffered many losses throughout her life, she remained a loving, devoted mother, sister and mamaw. Her life revolved around her family, her life was her family. She will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Pauline and Cecile, a brother, Denver; and a daughte, Wilma, in 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Nadine Roberts and husband Paul of Amarillo; two sons, Nathan White of Amarillo and Jimmy White of New Mexico; three sisters, Ann Fonti of Houston, Maxine Darly of Washington and Martha Johnson of California; a brother, Wayne James of Utah; many loving nieces and nephews; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He graduated from Dumas High School in 2004. Joshua served in the U.S. Marines in Iraq. Humphreys, 85, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, in Amarillo. Burial will be in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Mr. Humphreys was born June 28, 1921, in Mineola to Ralph and Mattie Lou Humphreys. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during War World II where he flew more than 50 missions. He had been very involved in the Young Republican Club and the Homebuilders Sunday school class at Polk Street United Methodist Church. He also sold cars for many dealerships in Amarillo and he loved to fish. Survivors include his wife of more than 63 years, Marian Humphreys; three daughters, Cindy Stuart and husband David of Amarillo, Janet Kenney and husband Marty of Hampstead, N.C., and Vicky Richmond and husband J. Pat of Amarillo; a son, Max Humphreys Jr. and wife Sharon of Timnatha, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She married Louis Bichsel of White Deer on Jan. 22, 1977, and they resided together in Pampa, where they loved and enjoyed their animals as well as each other. Caroline was a devoted animal advocate, wood carver, artist and loving wife who will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her father, V.R. Bellflower of Pampa; and her beloved dog, Ringo. Mrs. Moody was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Donley County to Leonard A. Wall and Mattie A. Killian Wall. She married Waymon Moody on July 26, 1941, in Wellington. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She was the WISD cafeteria manager for 19 years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990; and three brothers, Arnold Wall, Billy Wall and Joe Wall. Mrs. Jones was born Aug. 25, 1918, in Paducah, Cottle County, to Elzie N. and Anita Renfro Jones. Sybil served in the Navy during World War II. She attended Traphagen School of Fashion in New York City. For 20 years she had her own greeting card business in NYC, where she personally created the designs and greetings. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; and two sisters, Myrtis Jones and Johnnie Leathers Howell. Survivors include two nieces, Paula Leathers Kohan and husband Stan of Dallas and Brenda Leathers Johnson of San Antonio; two great-nieces, Katherine Kohan of New York City and Jennifer Johnson and husband Dave Tidey of Greenwood, Colo.; a great-nephew, John Johnson and wife Shari of Abernathy; two great- great-nephews; and a great-great-niece. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- R.W. Standefer CARROLLTON - R.W. Standefer, 89, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Clifton Cemetery in Clifton. Arrangements are by Sparkman-Dickey Funeral Home of Dallas. R.W. was born March 23, 1917, in Clifton to Rufus Wm. and Jessie Prather Standefer. He was a ninth-generation member of the Standefer family, which came to America from Bristol, England, by way of the Barbados Islands off South America, to Baltimore, Md., in 1661. He attended Cayote and Clifton schools, graduating in 1934. He attended Clifton College for two years. He then enrolled at Texas Tech University in Lubbock and graduated with a B.S. degree in 1939. Later he graduated from West Texas State University with an M.E. degree in 1951. On Nov. 8, 1940, he married Frances Evelyn Krohn in Texline. He began his teaching career in 1939 at Texline schools. He was a teacher-coach-principal at Texline, Bovina and Vega schools. He was superintendent of schools at Channing, Stratford and White Deer-Skellytown for 32 years. RW retired in 1981, completing 41 years of service as an educator. After retiring, he worked for two years in Las Vegas. He then returned to White Deer and was elected mayor in 1984 and served eight years. In 1969 he was selected by the American Association of School Administrators as one of 30 to participate on their Comparative Seminar Team group to study schools in the Soviet Union of Russia. This group studied schools in Moscow, Leningrad, Yerevan, Tbilisi and Kiev. Upon his retirement in 1981, the AASA presented him with his Gold Card Emeritus at the National Convention for being a member and for serving 32 years as a superintendent of schools. He was a member of AASA, TASA, TSTA, White Deer Lions Club and past Command of the American Legion Post 519 in Bovina. He was a supporter of Boy Scouts, a member of Rock Island Lodge 869 in Dalhart and a York Rite Mason. He was a member of White Deer United Methodist Church and White Deer Senior Citizens. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Force for three years and five months with the rank of technical sergeant. He was preceded in death by his parents of Clifton; two sisters, Mrs. Lucyle Dailey of Greensboro, N.C., and Mrs. Louise Simril of Austin; a brother, Prather Standefer of Midland; and a daughter, Judy Mansfield of Dallas.
