Services will be private. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. She was born Oct. 9, 1922, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, the elder daughter of Elizabeth Deweese and Verne Gould. Her formative years were spent in Sedalia, Mo., at the home of her grandparents. After graduation from high school, she attended Stanford University majoring in English and graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1942. She entered the U.S. Navy and served as personnel officer at Great Lakes Naval Station until the end of World War II. Lew married Robert Bothwell in 1951 in San Francisco. After he finished his tour of duty in the Navy, Bob joined the Petroleum Chemicals Division of DuPont Corp. During the ensuing years they lived in New York City, Beaumont, Minneapolis, Los Angeles and finally, Amarillo. Lew was a very knowledgeable gardener and became a Master Flower Show Judge. As a member of the Amarillo Botanical Center, she enjoyed working with the therapy program for many years. She found many friends in the Garden Clubs. In Amarillo, Lew found many friends with the same interests and tastes as hers. She was also active in the Amarillo Museum of Art where she was a docent. In later years, she was impaired by a fall which hampered her mobility and curtailed her participation in these interests. Her grandparents were members of Broadway Presbyterian Church in Sedalia, and as Lew often said, "We were there every time the doors opened." He married Dolores Read on Aug. 25, 1952, in Tucumcari, N.M. He worked for more than 25 years as dock foreman for Mead's Bakery. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002. He was preceded in death by two sons, and his father. There will be no viewing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Michael Jarnich John Michael Jarnich, 64, of Amarillo died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006. John was born April 6, 1942, in Maspeth, N.Y., to Mary and John Jarnich. He married Lillian Lannen on April 8, 1967, in Bronx, N.Y. John graduated from Chelsea Vocational High School in 1959. Having lived in New York for most of their lives, John and Lillian retired to Amarillo in 2004 to be near their family who had moved here. Lillian passed away earlier this year in March. "Big John" worked for 42 years for Pepsi-Cola. In New York, he was an active member of several antique car clubs, and loved attending both local and NASCAR races and going fishing at every opportunity. He was also an avid woodworker. In Amarillo, he was an active member of Grace Calvary Chapel and loved baby- sitting for his grandkids. Survivors include three sons, John Jarnich and Paul Jarnich and wife Kristine, all of Amarillo, and Matthew Jarnich of New York City; and two grandchildren, Edward and Victoria. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dalon C. Perkins Dalon C. Perkins, 68, of Amarillo died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in The Church at Quail Creek. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Perkins was born May 28, 1938, in Lela. He attended school in Lela through the eighth grade, and then attended Shamrock High School, graduating in 1956. He was well-known for his football talent as "Speedy Gonzales," and earned many awards. He attended Amarillo College and West Texas State University. He married Sharon LeBlanc in 1959, and they moved to Amarillo. Coach Perkins taught, coached and worked at Grace Christian Academy (aka Bonham Christian) for 13 years. He coached boys football, basketball and track, as well as girls basketball, volleyball and track. His teams won regional titles for several years in the Dallas area. One of his cherished achievements was winning the holiday tournament at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo. Mr. Perkins retired from ABF Freight in 2003. He had previously been employed by Central and had worked at ASARCO. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved taking his family with him to the mountains. He loved the Lord and served him faithfully. He was a member of The Church at Quail Creek. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Hazel Perkins; and two brothers, Tarlton and "Doc." Survivors include his wife, Sharon; four daughters, Cindy Whitten, Melony Carrillo and D'nette Whitlock and husband Justin, all of Amarillo, and Sheree Pittman and husband Dirk of Dallas; nine grandchildren, James Leake and wife Teri of Oklahoma, Jeffy Montanya and wife Andria of Dallas, Brandi and Bridgett Carrillo, Cameron and Chelsea Pittman and Coltin, Briason and Trason Whitlock; and four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Christopher Leake and Aria and Tytan Montanya. Ms. Winter was a dietitian for more than 20 years at the Harrington Cancer Center. She was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church as well as the Red Hat Society. Ms. Winter courageously overcame brain cancer in 1989. She lost a hard-fought battle to leukemia, and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Schaffer, of Baltimore, Md. Survivors include son; Ryan Winter of Wilmore, Ky.; a daughter, Tammy Morris and husband Wade of Denver; a brother, Robert Schaffer of Baltimore; her mother, Pauline Schaffer of Baltimore; and two grandchildren, Isaiah and Chloe. He had lived in Amarillo for 71 years. Mr. Allison had been married to his wife, Dorothy, for 58 years when she preceded him in death. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Allison was a fisherman and an owner and contractor of his own cement business. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Richard Briones Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Skyler and Emrald Allison. Survivors include two sons, Arthur G. Allison and wife Mique of Bonham and William E. After her retirement, Mrs. Cotter enjoyed knitting as her favorite pastime. She knitted many items including baby blankets for unwed mothers, footlets for nursing home residents and afghans for relatives. She also enjoyed gardening.
