Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Amarillo South Church with Sherman Eastland, chaplain of Northwest Texas Health Care System, officiating. Arrangements are by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Ms. Cross was born Feb. 25, 1985, in Big Spring. She had lived in Amarillo most of her life. She was a 2003 graduate of Tascosa High School, where she was an honor student and received many academic awards. She was attending Amarillo College as a pre-law student at the time of her death. She was a loving and wonderful mother to her 3-month-old daughter, Haven. She loved to write poetry and was known for her beautiful smile and her kindness to everyone she met. Survivors include her parents, Kenneth and Nancy Cross of Amarillo; a daughter, Haven Schulz of Amarillo; her fiance, Binz Shulz of Amarillo; two brothers, Anthony Tufares, who is stationed abroad, and Isaac Cross of Amarillo; her great-grandmother, Berniece Spikes of Comanche, Okla.; two aunts, Debra Sykes and Donna Wood, both of Wichita Falls; and two uncles, Phillip Cross and wife Patsy of Big Spring and Doug Cross and wife Tina of Jacksboro. Banks Donald C. Banks, 74, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with retired Col. Clayton Hoffman, chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Banks was born July 17, 1932, in Saugus, Mass., to Bruce and Josephine Banks. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He retired from military service after 25 years of service. After his retirement from military service, he went to work for TEC as a veterans representative. He retired from TEC after 10 years. He was proud to serve as a member of the board of directors for the Panhandle Plains War Memorial. Mr. Banks was a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann; a son, Donald; and seven siblings. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Charlotte Groseclos of Ohio; two brothers, George Banks of North Carolina and Roy Banks of New Hampshire; a special friend and caregiver, Claudine Holland; two stepgrandchildren; and 22 nieces and nephews. Bell St., with Mr. Dunavin's brother, Roy Dunavin, Church of Christ minister of Fort Smith, Ark., officiating. Private family burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Dunavin was born July 8, 1938, in Terrell to Tandy Lee and Frankie Bell Dunavin. He had been a resident of Amarillo since 1963. He worked for Mur Tex Fiberglass Fabricators until 1969, when he became disabled. He was loved by his children and grandchildren and will be missed. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Paul Dunavin in 2001; a brother, Troy Dunavin; and his father. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Wayne Cemetery in Lewis, Kan., with Mr. Huffman's grandson, Steve Huffman, of Kingswood United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Huffman was born April 18, 1917, in Sedgwick County, Kan., to William Luther and Sarah Leona Huffman. He moved to Amarillo in 1996 to be with his family. Before moving from Kansas, he worked as a farmer and a machinist. He was a member of the Cross Manufacturing Twenty Year Club. He was preceded in death by a son, Eugene William Huffman, in 1969; and his wife, Nyra Alice Huffman, in 1985. Survivors include a son, George Huffman and wife Cynthia of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Steve Huffman, Aaron Huffman, Jennifer Cordon and Sarah Everett; and seven great- grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aubrey Stroup Aubrey Stroup, 94, of Amarillo died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Central Church of Christ with Dan Bouchelle and Warlick Thomas officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Aubrey was born March 5, 1912, in Paris, Texas. He graduated from Paris High School, and attended a year of business school. For 45 years he worked in the dairy industry with 25 years as a manager of Lane's Ice Cream in Amarillo. He retired as a private bookkeeper in 1996. Aubrey married his first love, Margaret Brown, on Dec. 17, 1933. They shared almost 60 years together before her death in 1993. On May 13, 1994, he married his second love, Jewell Moore. They shared their lives together until his death. Aubrey spent several years in the Optimist Club, served 14 years as an elder in Walnut Hills Church of Christ in Dallas and 26 years as an elder and member of Central Church of Christ in Amarillo. He was highly respected and loved by his many friends and family and touched countless lives with his kind heart. He will be greatly missed. The family gives their heartfelt thanks to Odyssey for their guidance and compassion during a difficult time. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret; his parents, W.G. Stroup and Ida May Aubrey Stroup; a brother, Vernon; and a sister, Mary Ida Gieger. Mrs. Brewster was born an only child March, 2, 1938, in Wichita, Kan. She married Bob Brewster on Aug. 21, 1957, in Las Cruces, N.M. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Stan Brewster of Mesa, Ariz., Scott Brewster of McKinney and Robert Brewster of Howardwick; a daughter, Lori Brewster of Fritch; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Howard "Cockleburr" Smith McLEAN - Howard "Cockleburr" Smith, 84, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006. Howard Lee Smith was born July 4, 1922, in Quitaque to Floyd and Luta Smith. He married Norean Ferris in December 1946 in McLean. They were married for 22 years until her death on Feb. 9, 1969. He served in the Navy during World War II. Although he worked in the oil field for several years, people knew him as a farmer who raised cattle and grew cotton, watermelons, cantaloupes and tomatoes. He donated much of his crop to nursing homes and to Loaves and Fishes. He was a good man to all. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Maydell Kimbell, Cleone Word, Joy Sunstrome and Rudene Williamson; and two brothers, Floyd Smith Jr. and J.W. Smith. Survivors include two sons, Earnest Smith and wife Helen of Amarillo and Terry Smith and wife Linda of McLean; two daughters, Brinda Hembree and husband Jerry of Dallas and Galynn West and husband Billy of Borger; five brothers, David Smith and Billy Smith, both of California, Wayne Smith and wife Pat of Washington, J.L. Mr. Shipp was born Aug. 30, 1932, in Waco to Lee and Abbie Shipp. He married Clara Stroud on Jan. 30, 1956, in Raton, N.M. She preceded him in death in 2002. He had lived in Perryton since 1955, moving from Lovington, N.M. He was a truck driver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served during the Korean War. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Michael Eugene McCain, in 1982.
