Arthur St. Mr. Flores was born Dec. 9, 1945, in Plainview to Daniel and Sara Flores. He worked at Auto World Salvage. Mr. Flores was a member of St. Laurence Cathedral. Mr. Wheeler was born Nov. 17, 1924, in Hill County to the late Sterling Russell and Letha Jane Corgil Wheeler. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, and a son, Clifton Wheeler. Mrs. Canada was a longtime resident of Amarillo and was a member of Reorganized Church of Latter-day Saints. She worked at Pantex for 14 years. The family would like to thank all the caretakers of Hospice Care of the Southwest and the staff of Vivian's Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her mother, Leone Lewis of Denver City. "Bill" Pendleton STRATFORD - William L. "Bill" Pendleton, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gene Wynette, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Pendleton was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Hutchinson, Kan., to JR and Bernice Lee Pendleton. In 1928, his family returned to Sherman County, where they had interests in ranching. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1938 and enrolled in Texas A&M at the age of 16. When World War II broke out, he was allowed to complete his studies at A&M, graduating with a degree in animal husbandry and was immediately sent to Notre Dame for a naval officer's training course. Graduates of this training were called "90 Day Wonders." Bill joined his first ship in New York as a deck officer. It was also the first ship the Panhandle boy had ever seen. He served for 16 months in the Atlantic, participating in almost every major landing in Europe and North Africa and then transferred to the Pacific campaign for 16 months. He married Selma Mullins on Nov. 16, 1944, in First United Methodist Church in Stratford while he was being redeployed to the Pacific Theater from the European Theater. After the war, Bill and Selma settled in Stratford, and Bill partnered with his father in ranching and farming as JR Pendleton and Son. In 1950, they acquired a southern Colorado ranch and moved to La Veta, Colo., with their first-born son, Robert Forrest. Sons Tom and Lee were born in Colorado before the family returned to the Panhandle and built a home on their Dallam County property near Conlen. In 1960, Bill and Selma bought Sherman County Abstract Co. from Bill's Uncle Roy. Bill acquired his real estate broker's license and was very involved in the development of irrigated farming in the '60s and '70s. On Sept. 11, 1967, Bill received a birthday present, daughter Ann Pendleton. Not only did Ann and Bill share a common birthday, Bill's mother Bernice was born on Sept. 11. Bill was active in First United Methodist Church of Stratford, serving in whatever capacity was requested. He supported the community of Stratford and loved this part of the Texas Panhandle. He knew most of Stratford's residents and was known as "Daddy Bill" by his children's friends. Drives in the country were part of his daily routine throughout his life. Bill's greatest pride and joy was his family. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Wilson, and a daughter-in-law, Ann McCarthy Pendleton. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bob Forrest Pendleton and wife Barbara of Snyder, Tom Pendleton and wife Debra of Dallas and Lee Pendleton and wife Shelia of Oskaloosa, Iowa; a daughter, Ann Jones and husband Roy of Blanket; eight grandchildren, Lisa Williams and husband Cody, Michael, Andy, Sydney, Ali, Lauren, Julie and Hannah; and two great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Tanner. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Lakeview United Methodist Church with Brad Crosswhite officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. Haney passed away Dec. 29, 2006, in Dallas. She was born on a homestead near Obar, N.M., on Oct. 6, 1912, the year New Mexico became a state. Her parents, Thomas Adam Welch and May Matthews Welch, were among the early settlers in the area. Vic married Stroud Herbert Haney in Portales, N.M., on Sept. 11, 1930. Vic's family came from Missouri and Texas, and Stroud's family came from Pennsylvania. To this union three children were born, Dorothy, Marion, and Herbert. Vic lived all of her 94 years in Dalhart and the surrounding area, establishing a home on Oak Street while Stroud worked for the Rock Island Railroad. In 2006, she moved to Richardson to be near a granddaughter. Vic was a lifelong homemaker and mother, who accumulated an uncountable number of friends. She was an expert seamstress and designer who enjoyed sewing for her family and professionally. She enjoyed making quilt tops and quilting and helped to start the Quilter's Group at the Dalhart Senior Citizens Center, where she spent many wonderful hours quilting. For more than 60 years, from FDR to Clinton, Vic took pride in having worked at the polls in every election. She belonged to many organizations through the years. She was a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Homebuilder's Class. She was also a member of the Rhem Home Demonstration Club, Reader's Guild, Rock Island Fireman and Engineers Ladies Auxiliary and was a Room Mother and Girl Scouts Leader. Vic Haney was the loveliest person you could ever know. She will be missed by many friends and loved ones. She influenced many people by the way she lived her life. Both young and old have been touched by Vic's kind and caring heart through the years. When she saw a need, she did what she could to help those less fortunate, even until her passing. On July 14, 1979, Vic lost her dearly beloved Stroud. Others who preceded her in death are: her grandmother, Sara Jane Matthews of Dalhart; her parents; a granddaughter, Kelly Haney; a son-in-law, John Scott Martin; two sisters, Lake Fitzner and Esta Fitzner; and four brothers, Verner Welch, Emmitt Welch, Glenn Welch and Paul Morrison. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Martin Oliver and John Oliver and Marion Simpson Crosswhite and John Crosswhite; a son, Herbert Haney; a sister, Doris Farley; a brother-in-law, Julius Fitzner; and eight grandchildren, Sharen Burden, Karen Luyties, Rob Martin, Kent Crosswhite, Brad Crosswhite, Mark Simpson, Candace Boyd and Tom Haney. Arrangements are by Schooler Armstrong Chapel, Claude. Mr. Hubbard was born April 14, 1920, in Miami to William Miller Hubbard and Ruth Hubbard. He moved to Claude in 1949, where he resided the rest of his life. He was the local manager of the Southwestern Public Service Claude office. He retired from SPS in 1983. Mr. Hubbard was a Sunday school teacher and member of Church of the Brethren in Pampa. He was also an active member and deacon at Trinity Fellowship Church. He was member of Gideons International, past president and member of the Amarillo Downtown Lions Club, past president of the High Plains Eye Bank, founding president of the Claude Chamber of Commerce and founding president of the Armstrong County Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eldon Hubbard and Bryce Hubbard; two sisters, Laverne Rose and Juanita Price; his first wife, Betty Dean Duniven Hubbard of Claude; and a son, Keith Hubbard of Amarillo. Burrow and Nellie Vigil Burrow. She graduated from Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla., and worked as a guard in both the Neal and Clements Units of the Texas Department of Justice Units in Amarillo. Mrs. Ferguson was born Dec. 7, 1949, in Shamrock to Beuron and Frankie Lynette Stevens. She moved to Wheeler in 1960. Mrs. Ferguson graduated from Wheeler High School in 1968. She attended beauty school in San Angelo. She worked as a beautician in Wheeler, Shamrock and Pampa. She married Gene Ferguson on Aug. 6, 1971, in Wheeler. Mrs Ferguson worked at Hylands Pharmacy for 15 years. She was a member of Country Chapel, P.T.A. president at Briscoe and a former member of the Xi Epsilon Eta sorority. Box 155, Wayside, TX 79094. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Robert Lee French ODESSA - Robert Lee French, 63, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006. Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. French was born Oct. 29, 1943, in Littlefield. He was 6 years old when his family moved to South America. For the next eight years, he came back and forth during the summers to live with and help his maternal grandparents, Buhl Lee and Inez Harding, (now deceased) on their ranch in Causey, N.M. He moved back to the States and graduated from high school at Cisco in 1961. He went to college at Texas Tech, graduating in 1966, with a BS degree in agriculture. In 1964, he married Diana Sue Slaughter of Odessa. He taught Vo-Ag at Fort Hancock and Socorro until 1969, and then was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged and received a Bronze Star in 1971. Coming back to Odessa, he worked with his father-in-law, S.L. Slaughter, later moving to Oklahoma City to work in the lumber yards. He took up square dancing as a hobby. In 1975, he squared danced on to Amarillo, where he became a licensed plumber for Allen's Plumbing Co. for 16 years. He was also an avid hunter and loved Colorado. In 1991, he moved to Odessa to help care for his wife's parents, Pearl and Stant Slaughter, now deceased. Robert then had his own health battles to fight, and he fought them with such dignity and pride, never losing his sense of humor. He leaves behind many relatives and friends who loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his parents; both sets of grandparents; a brother, Dennis Wayne French; and a very beloved nephew, Billy Jack Slaughter. Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Jackye Smith of Amarillo and her daughters, Denise Smith, Kelly Ford and Tammy Johnson, all of Oklahoma, and Missy French of Odessa; three brothers, Jack D. Mrs. Mapp was born Oct. 30, 1928, in Lawn to Isaiah Volon Sanders and Maggie Lee Chism Sanders. She graduated from Port, Okla., High School and Southwestern State College. She married Vernon Mapp in 1952 in Hammond, Okla. He died on Dec. 3, 2006. Trannie was an elementary teacher in Port, Cotton Center and Hart for 27 years. She retired from teaching in 1990 and moved to Plainview in 1992, where she lived until January 2005, when she moved to Lubbock. Trannie had three main loves in life, those being her faith, family and friends. She also enjoyed her calling as a school teacher and her life as a farm wife. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Dorothy Lorraine Sanders and Verna Lee Perkey.
