Amber was born Dec. 24, 1986, in Amarillo, was raised here and was a graduate of Tascosa High School. She lived in Amarillo most of her life until moving to Edmond, Okla., in 2004. She was attending the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. She was Miss Greater Edmond in the Miss Oklahoma Pageant in 2004. Amber loved life, being a mother, music, butterflies and fairies. She always looked at life as an adventure. She was a member of First Baptist Church most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Arden Road Baptist Church. She was the greatest mother of them all! She married R.V. McDowell on June 22, 1940, in Clovis, N.M. Survivors include her husband, R.V. Dial PANHANDLE - Doris E. Dial, 87, formerly of Amarillo and Panhandle, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, in Canadian. Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Wednesday in St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Panhandle with the Rev. Mieczyslaw Przepiora officiating. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the church with the Rev. Przepiora officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. Mrs. Dial was born Doris Elizabeth Kraker in Wahpeton, N.D., where she was raised and attended school. After graduating from the State School of Science in North Dakota, she worked as a secretary in Washington, D.C., during World War II. Following the war, she met and married Earl C. Dial, and they moved to the Panhandle in 1946. They raised four children on a farm northeast of Amarillo. In 1972, they moved to a farm south of Panhandle, where they farmed until Earl's death in 1994. Doris remained on the farm and was an active member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church. In recent years, she lived at the Marjorie S. Hudson House in Claude and finally at the Edward Abraham Memorial Home in Canadian. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kimberly Lay Cisneros, in 2000. Survivors include four children, Joe Dial and wife Dawn of Canadian, Kathleen Dial of San Marcos, Mary Taniguchi and husband Reuben of Crowley and Dennis Dial and wife Kelly of Argyle; a sister, Luella S. "Bill" Pendleton, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gene Weinette, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Pendleton was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Hutchinson, Kan., to JR and Bernice Lee Pendleton. In 1928, his family returned to Sherman County, where they had interests in ranching. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1938 and enrolled in Texas A&M at the age of 16. When World War II broke out, he was allowed to complete his studies at A&M, graduating with a degree in animal husbandry and was immediately sent to Notre Dame for a naval officer's training course. Graduates of this training were called "90 Day Wonders." Bill joined his first ship in New York as a deck officer. It was also the first ship the Panhandle boy had ever seen. He served for 16 months in the Atlantic, participating in almost every major landing in Europe and North Africa and then transferred to the Pacific campaign for 16 months. He married Selma Mullins on Nov. 16, 1944, in First United Methodist Church in Stratford while he was being redeployed to the Pacific Theater from the European Theater. After the war, Bill and Selma settled in Stratford, and Bill partnered with his father in ranching and farming as JR Pendleton and Son. In 1950, they acquired a southern Colorado ranch and moved to La Veta, Colo., with their first-born son, Robert Forrest. Sons Tom and Lee were born in Colorado before the family returned to the Panhandle and built a home on their Dallam County property near Conlen. In 1960, Bill and Selma bought Sherman County Abstract Co. from Bill's Uncle Roy. Bill acquired his real estate broker's license and was very involved in the development of irrigated farming in the '60s and '70s. On Sept. 11, 1967, Bill received a birthday present, daughter Ann Pendleton. Not only did Ann and Bill share a common birthday, Bill's mother Bernice was born on Sept. 11. Bill was active in First United Methodist Church of Stratford, serving in whatever capacity was requested. He supported the community of Stratford and loved this part of the Texas Panhandle. He knew most of Stratford's residents and was known as "Daddy Bill" by his children's friends. Drives in the country were part of his daily routine throughout his life. Bill's greatest pride and joy was his family. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Wilson, and a daughter-in-law, Ann McCarthy Pendleton. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bob Forrest Pendleton and wife Barbara of Snyder, Tom Pendleton and wife Debra of Dallas and Lee Pendleton and wife Shelia of Oskaloosa, Iowa; a daughter, Ann Jones and husband Roy of Blanket; eight grandchildren, Lisa Williams and husband Cody, Michael, Andy, Sydney, Ali, Lauren, Julie and Hannah; and two great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Tanner. Mrs. Vaughan practiced health occupations as a surgical and psychiatric registered nurse in Colorado and California. She moved to Texas in 2005 after 18 years in Pismo Beach, Calif. Carolyn Dee Davidson, 72, passed from this life into the presence of God's glory where many loved ones await her. She was born Dec. 15, 1934, in Gladewater, the only child of Willard "Buck" and Lorraine B. Davidson. She died Dec. 31 at her home in Spearman. She knew her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, and was a member of Spearman Church of Christ. Carolyn spent several years of her life in Colorado, Wyoming and Texas, where she enjoyed hunting, fishing and just life in general. She was an exciting and fun-loving person who was loved by all who knew her. Her passion was her pets. In her early 20s, she became the editor of the Rangely, Colo., newspaper for eight years and was the youngest editor in Colorado at that time. She also worked at Gordon's Drugstore in Spearman for 30 years. She will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her father in 1976 and her mother in 2001. She was the head girls basketball coach in Perryton for 10 years, with a record of 215 wins, 104 losses. Her team went to the playoffs nine consecutive years, winning four district championships. A highlight of her career was winning the championship trophy at the 2001 Caprock Holiday Tournament. She was married to Dennis Burrus in 1980, and they lived in Denver, Amarillo and Erick until Dennis' death in 2001. Mrs. Burrus loved life and loved her family. She was an elegant lady who taught her family by living a life of integrity. She enjoyed dancing and shopping. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Lonnie, Lucas and Junior.
