Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Jay Roberson, pastor of Tascosa Road Fellowship Church, officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Marie was born Sept. 12, 1912, in Checotah, Okla., to Emmitt and Sue Cargill. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1929, and had lived in Amarillo more than 80 years. She married Ernest Albert Bates in 1929 in Amarillo, and was a charter member of Cliffside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Bates and wife Madeline and Wayne Bates and wife Lillian, all of Amarillo; a brother, Emmitt W. Cargill Jr. of Cottonwood, Ariz.; three grandsons, Eric, Dewayne and Lee; a granddaughter, Melanie; five great-granddaughters; and a great-grandson. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Southwest Baptist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Westley was born Aug. 5, 1978, in Amarillo, and was raised here. He was a 1996 graduate of Amarillo High School. While in High School, he sang in the Bel Conto Choir. Music was a very big part of his life. He had also lived in California, Clayton, N.M., Clovis, N.M., and Dumas. He married Bambi Cox on July 30, 2004, in Amarillo. He was a commercial and residential painter. He worked with Steve Kirkpatrick and also owned and operated A&R Painting in Amarillo. He was very skilled and talented in his craft. Westley loved the outdoors, fishing, camping and hunting and will be deeply missed by many. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Lloyd Lane and Orlando Alarcon; and an uncle, Joe Lane. Survivors include his wife, Bambi; two sons, Tristen Stambaugh and Kalan Cox, both of Amarillo; two daughters, Allyah Ramos and Karma Cox, both of Amarillo; his parents, Patricia Vincent of Amarillo and Kevin Alarcon of Dumas; three brothers, Donny Vincent of Amarillo, Ryan Alarcon of Dumas and Jeremy Fry of Sunray; two sisters, Ronda McNeill of Amarillo and Barbara Day of Pampa; his grandmothers, Dora Lane of Amarillo and Mary Alarcon of Tucumcari, N.M.; and many aunts, uncles and extended family who loved him very much. Mrs. Frazier was born March 8, 1948, in West Virginia. She was employed by Furrs Cafeteria in Amarillo for six years. Mrs. Frazier was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen B. Smith; her father, John L. Sams; and a daughter, Ruby Marilyn Frazier. Survivors include her husband, Ronald D. Frazier; four daughters, Angelia Barrow, Billie Frazier, Rose Williams and Nancy Frazier, all of Amarillo; two sons, Ronald D. Carol Jean Lohr, a woman of great courage and unwavering faith, spent her first Christmas with Jesus this year. Mrs. Lohr passed away on Christmas Eve in Amarillo after a long illness at the age of 78. She joined her husband of 60 years, Robert Lohr, who passed away five weeks earlier on Nov. 18, 2006. Carol was born July 27, 1928, in Steamboat Springs, Colo., to John W.C. and Dollie Mae Rogers. As a child, she lived in Colorado, New Mexico and Washington state, traveling with her mother and father, a road construction engineer. Carol graduated from Loveland (Colo.) High School on May 30, 1946. She married Bob Lohr, her high school sweetheart, on June 23, 1946, in Estes Park, Colo. They raised their two children in Loveland until 1964, when they moved to Hereford. There Carol completed LVN training and became a nurse. Since 1994, she lived in Amarillo. Hospitality and generosity were two of Carol's many gifts. A gracious hostess, Carol regularly opened her home to family, friends and even strangers who had nowhere else to go. This was her ministry: to serve others. In 2006, Carol gave each of her loved ones a unique Christmas gift: her reminder that the best gifts are not waiting around the Christmas tree, but sitting around the Christmas table, sharing God's love. "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights." Mr. Mabry owned and operated the Korral Drive-Inn in Slaton. He moved to Amarillo to be owner of S&K Ice Cream, named for Sarah and Kaylee, his granddaughters. He was known as "the ice cream man." He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Mabry; a son, Clayton Dean Mabry; and his father, Truman Mabry. He received his associate degree from the University of Florida and his law degree from South Texas College of Law. Robert served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. He worked for the city of Amarillo, then his own private law practice until 1985. Later, he helped his son with Jeff's Greenhouse. He was a huge Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys fan. He married Virginia Derr on Nov. 11, 1962, in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; a son, Jeff Smith and wife Helen of Amarillo; and two grandsons, Jeff Smith and fiancee Amanda Williams of Dallas and Andy Smith of Amarillo. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church. He married Nina M. Hobgood on Dec. 14, 1946, in Dumas. She preceded him in death on March 5, 2000. He married Marguerite Christensen on Aug. 21, 2005, in Sunray. Morrison Gene W. Morrison, 85, of Canyon died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors. Longtime Canyon resident and civic leader, Gene W. Morrison, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007. Mr. Morrison was born in 1921 in Donley County, and worked as a cowboy across the plains of Texas before settling in Canyon in 1940. He was a member, former chaplain, 50-year pin holder and recipient of the Golden Trowel Service Award of the Canyon City Masonic Lodge No. 730. Active for years in numerous civic activities including Canyon Little League, Canyon Boy Scouts, the Texas Panhandle Historical Society, the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation, the Canyon Concert Series and the West Texas Buffalo Club, Morrison was named Outstanding Kiwanian of the Year in Canyon in 1960. Morrison invested in service stations and real estate in Canyon and Hereford, beginning in the 1950s, and was an early supporter of the effort to establish the Pioneer Amphitheater in Palo Duro Canyon State Park. He is best remembered by multiple generations of Canyon children for the years he portrayed Santa Claus at the Panhandle Plains Museum Christmas Open House. During World War II, Morrison served in the 670th Field Artillery in the 3rd Army under the command of Gen. George Patton in the European theater of operation. Along with W.A. "Bill" Wilson, Morrison was one of the first two original reserve deputy sheriffs of the Randall County Sheriff's Office and was one of the first Canyon volunteer firemen to graduate from the Texas A&M firefighting school. He was active as a member of the King's Men Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church in Canyon at the time of his death. Survivors include his wife, Betty; a son, Gene Vaughn and wife Cheri of Canyon; and a grandson, John David Morrison of Canyon. Jimmie Truett Brinkley, a decorated combat officer who always said he loved being a soldier in the U.S. Army, but that he "loved being a soldier in the Lord's Army more," went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006. Brinkley passed away at his Abilene home at the age of 68. Brinkley was born Aug. 29, 1938, near Bailey, and graduated from high school in Kress. He graduated from West Texas State University at Canyon in 1961 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army through college ROTC. Brinkley completed two tours in Vietnam, totaling more than 3,000 flying hours in combat. After Vietnam, he was an assistant professor of military science at Hardin-Simmons University where he also earned a master's degree in guidance and counseling. Brinkley retired with more than 20 years of Army active duty and surrendered to the Lord's calling to full-time Christian service. He served as administrator of Aspendale Baptist Encampment in Cloudcroft, N.M., for three years as a Mission Service Corps Volunteer. Brinkley then held the same position at Big Country Baptist Assembly in Lueders for 11½ years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewel Truett and Ollie Belle Brinkley; and a sister, Mattie Lois Brinkley.
