Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with John Curry officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Lively was born Feb. 25, 1922, in the shadow of Nichols Mesa at La Garita, San Miguel, N.M., to Allene Nichols Tipton, La Garita postmistress, and Stuart B. Tipton, foreman of Tipton Ranch. Elaine attended elementary school in Amarillo and Austin, where she graduated from Austin High School in 1938. In 1940, she moved to Pampa as the area secretary for the Texas Department of Public Welfare. On April 20, 1942, she married Aviation Cadet Travis C. Lively Jr. in Corsicana. She was a legal secretary for A.J. Carubbi and John Warner and later served as secretary for the Gray County Attorney. In the 1970s, she and her husband bought his father's half of Pampa Hardware Co., and in 1998, they opened Top of Texas Awards and Gifts. Elaine was a member of First Methodist Church in Pampa since 1942, and was a member of various PTAs, Beta Sigma Phi and the Panhandle Chapter of TROA. She became a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International and volunteered for several years for UNICEF, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, American Torch Society and St. Jude Children's Hospital. She also volunteered for several years for her family friend, Gov. Allan Shivers. She was preceded in death by her precious daughter, Carol Jean Lively; and her beloved dancing partner, Travis Coy Lively Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Janis Lynn Lively of Pampa; a son, Clay Lively and wife Mary McGuire Lively of Round Rock; four grandchildren, Michael Lively and wife Karen Kindley Lively, MD of Edmond, Okla., Jennifer Lively of Amarillo, Courtney Carter and husband Augustus Trautweiler of Osceola, Mo., and Fitz-John "Andrew" Davis and wife Devin Holcombe Davis of San Antonio; and four great-grandchildren, Megan, Rebecca, Julia and Adelia. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis. Mr. Collins was born June 6, 1922, in Memphis to Andy B. and Ada Webb Collins. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1940 to 1945, and was a farmer. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Ruben was born Oct. 3, 1987, in Chicago to Angel Arreola and Paula Vargas Arreola of Amarillo. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and worked in the family business, Carniceria La Popular. He also enjoyed sports and played football at Austin Middle School. He ran track and played soccer at Tascosa High School, and loved to go horseback riding and hiking. He was very athletic. Private burial will be in Llano East Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount. Mrs. Eastland was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Big Spring to a prominent Howard County ranch family. She attended West Texas State and Amarillo College. She enlisted in the Navy (WAVES) during World War II and was stationed in New York City. She met and married Roy P. Eastland Jr. in New York City while in the service. Mrs. Eastland was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo and was active in the Presbyterian Women's Organization and Ann Nassau Circle. She also served as a member of the High Plains Baptist Auxiliary. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Eastland Cornes and husband Jim of Lexington, Ky., and Rebecca Eastland Peterson and husband Chris of Annandale, Va.; two sons, Roy P. Eastland III of Amarillo and Florida and Walter D. She came to Amarillo in 1943 and attended Patten High School. She worked as a nurse (LVN) at Bryan Manor, Vivan's Nursing Home and St. Anthony's Hospital. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for many years. She married Clifton Lawrence on Oct. 14, 1982, in Rockwall. Survivors include her husband, Clifton Lawrence; three brothers, John E. Mr. Nelson was owner and operator of Red's Trucking Company. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Sister Heliodora was born May 28, 1907, in Dagmersellen, Canton Luzerne. She received her initial religious training in Tubach, Switzerland. She traveled to Colombia, South America, in 1931, and made her first profession of vows in August 1933. She was sent to the United States in 1936, and served as a housekeeper in various places in Colombia, Panama and the United States. She retired from active ministry in 1992, remaining in Amarillo until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include a nephew; as well as the Franciscan Sisters of the United States. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ronald E. Sherman Ronald E. She was born and raised in Lockney and graduated from Lockney High School. Mrs. Cline had been a seamstress and also worked at the cosmetic counter at Parson's Rexall Drug Store in Dimmitt. She loved her many friends in Dimmitt and all of her new friends at Palo Duro Village in Canyon. She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Cline; an infant son; and a grandson, Clayton Bright. Mr. Lopez was born April 13, 1940, to Manuel and Josefita Rivera Lopez in Santa Rosa. Mrs. Leach was born May 17, 1910, in Riley's Switch, which later became Clovis, to Thomas Jasper and Frances Floyd Seay Cook. She married Ray Leach on July 21, 1934. Survivors include two children, Tommie Harris of Rio Rancho and Eddie Leach of Jonesborough, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Thelma Donohoo Stuarti MIDLAND - Thelma Donohoo Stuarti, 79, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Ellis Funeral Home Chapel in Midland. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park. Thelma Donohoo Stuarti was called home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007. She was born Nov. 23, 1927, on a ranch in Hooker, Okla. At the age of 12, in May 1940, Thelma moved to the Falling Star ranch in Clayton, N.M., where she lived with her family. It was here where she learned to love music and developed her many talents in verse, song and various musical instruments. At the age of 20, she moved to Midland and met Henry Donohoo. Thelma and Henry married when she was 21. The Donohoos were prominent in the restaurant business and were managers of the Midland County Club, Donohoo's Sea Food, Henry's Steak House and other eating establishments in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Being a co-owner of the Midland Indian Baseball Club developed a lifetime love of the game and sport of baseball for Thelma. In 1952, the growth and need of clerical and technical assistance in the offices of the oil and gas industry created a need for ladies ready-to-wear through the establishment of The Career Girl. Thelma owned and managed The Career Girl until 1974, when she married the internationally renowned Italian tenor Enzo Stuarti in Indian Wells, Calif. For the next 26 years she was the loving wife of Enzo, as well as his business manager and stage production technician. It was during these years of international travel, Thelma met and became friends with kings, queens, potentates, presidents, baseball heroes, golf greats and all the "Best" of the Hollywood crowd. In October 2004, Thelma and Enzo returned to Midland to complete their retirement years. The family would like to take this opportunity to express their appreciation to Patricia Johnson, Diane Wright, Ann and Ronnie Williams and the entire staff of Green Tree County Club for their special love, affection, and care. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin Leonard Franz and Agnes Martens Franz; her husbands, Henry Donohoo and Enzo Stuarti; a sister, Elvina Franz Harder; and a brother, Marvin Franz. Arrangements are by Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home. Lou was born July 29, 1915, in Hollis, Okla., to the late Wyatt "Bud" and Dora Cox King. She married D.C. Thomason in 1935. She later married Jack Knowles in 1953. Lou worked as a beautician in Muleshoe and Floydada, where she owned her own beauty shop. She served as a dorm director at West Texas State University in Canyon, retiring in 1982. She was a hostess for the Muleshoe Heritage Foundation and an Avon representative, winning the President's Award numerous times. She was a member of Muleshoe Church of Christ and later a member of Orient Street Church of Christ in Stamford. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Debra Pauline Knowles Aguilar; a sister, Juanita Harris; and a brother, Charles King. Patterson, 96, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006. Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Central Church of Christ in Hereford, Texas. Arrangements are by Hereford Heritage Funeral Home. Mrs. Patterson was born Nov. 22, 1910, in McLean, Texas, to William Henry and Nettie V. Chambers. She was baptized on the same night as her future husband, Elmer Patterson, and they married six years later on June 7, 1931. They were married 61 years, living in Hereford for 48 years and in Tulsa for the remainder. Bessie graduated from Canyon High School and West Texas State College, receiving her B.A. in 1930, and her M.A. in 1950. She was the first local news reporter for Hereford's radio station KPAN. She taught speech, English and journalism at Hereford High School. As a freelance writer, she served as a correspondent to the Amarillo Globe-News for 15 years and authored "A History of Deaf Smith County" and four women's Bible study books. She and Elmer were devoted members of the Church of Christ, where Elmer served as an elder. They were both very active in congregations in Hereford and Tulsa, but also taught classes throughout the United States, the Bahamas and Jamaica. Mrs. Patterson was a member of the following organizations: president of La Plata Study Club, president of Deaf Smith County Federation of Women's Clubs, member of the board of directors of West Texas Ex-Students' Association, two- term president of Panhandle Pen Women, member of Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation, member of the Hereford Council of Camp Fire, lifetime member of Deaf Smith County Chamber of Commerce, life member of Texas PTA and Lubbock Christian College Associates and president and life member of Oklahoma Christian Women's Association. Articles she wrote were published in Christian Journal Magazine, West Texas Today, Texas Parade, Progressive Farmer, Western Livestock, Southwestern Crop and Stock, The High Plains Farmer, The Denver Record-Stockman, the Amarillo Globe-News and the Hereford Brand. She was preceded in death by her husband; six brothers; four sisters; and two grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 27, in Prairie Grove Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Talihina Funeral Home. Elizabeth Irene Bates joined her Lord on Jan. 6, 2007, after a long, hard- fought battle with complications from surgery for lung cancer. She was 71 years old. Irene was born May 5, 1935, in Garden City, Kan., the third child, to Alma and Joseph Roberts. Her youth was spent playing and working with her older brother and sister, Joseph Jr. and Geraldine "Jerry." In 1952, she met Jack Bates Sr., who became her lifemate and husband for 52 years. Two children, Starla and Jack "Joe" Jr. shared this union, benefitting from the example of unconditional love and devotion their parents displayed for each other. Irene devoted her life to the field of nursing. In 1962, she graduated from Amarillo College School of Vocational Nursing as an LVN. During the next three years, she worked with Dr. Karl B. Absolon as the only LVN in the state of Texas qualified as a heart-lung nurse, pioneering the idea of specialization. She had the privilege to be trained in Palo Alto, Calif., by Dr. Shumway and Dr. Jarvick, the inventor of the first mechanical heart. She returned to nursing in 1965 and attained her associate degree in nursing, becoming an RN. Her love of the field and people gave her the opportunity to experience every aspect of the nursing field. She continued her work as a surgical nurse for two more years, then explored the various opportunities of the field, including director of nursing, flight nurse, emergency room nursing, prison nursing, adolescent nursing and floor nursing. She excelled at all her positions but always kept her family as her number one priority. She always said that pediatric nursing was her favorite specialty. Her final nursing position was as administrator of Superior Home Health Care Inc. in Talihina from 1991 to 1998. This business allowed her to share her strength and hope to the small community of Talihina, and brought her family together. Irene loved her Lord and served Him daily. She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; and her brother.
