Conley Jerry L. Conley, 60, of Amarillo died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007. Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. today in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Monsignor Harold Waldow officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery East. Mr. Conley was born in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Wayland Baptist University. He served in the U.S. Army. He retired from the Amarillo Police Department after 25 years of service, where he received three life saving awards. His favorite job as a police officer was recovering stolen automobiles. He served as president of Mensa and was a member of Intertel. Jerry was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir. He also sang in the civic chorus of Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Conley, and a brother, Dana Conley. Survivors include his wife, Pat Conley; his children, Jason McIlhaney and wife Maria of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Michelle Gallier and husband Tory of Amarillo, Carole England of Wylie, Gwendolyn Dubravec and husband Martin of Cadillac, Mich., Sarah Moore and husband Shane of Muskogee, Okla., and Becky England of El Paso; his mother, Carol Conley of Odessa; seven grandchildren, Jason and Joseph McIlhaney, Joshua and Jessica Gallier, Nicholas and Cecilia Dubravec and Josiah Moore; a niece, Helen Futrell and husband Jan of Odessa; and a nephew, Eric Conley and wife Michelle of Austin. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ronnie Pierce Ronnie Pierce, 60, of Amarillo died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007. Georgia St. Mr. Pierce married Katha Cleaver in Ocean Port, N.J., in 1972. He was employed as an area police officer and worked for the Department of Energy for more than 30 years. Roach officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery with Masonic Rites by Palo Duro Masonic Lodge No. 1239. Mr. Thomas was born March 8, 1922, in Kahoka, Mo., to Grover and Chloe Thomas. He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. He met his wife of 62 years, Edith Bell Blackwood at a church function. He joined the U.S. Navy and served as a signalman for three years during World War II. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he moved to Amarillo in 1944. He soon began working for Marsh Electric Supply until his retirement in 1987. He earned a Master Mason's Degree and was a member of Amarillo Lodge No. 731. He was also a Masonic York. As a Shriner, he was Patrol Captain and earned a Distinguished Service Medal. He was preceded in death by his wife. Survivors include a daughter, Dee Ann Saunders and husband Randy of Amarillo; a son, David L. Thomas and wife Lynn of Houston; a sister, Dorothy A. Longnecker of Des Moines; three granddaughters, Lori Ann Saunders, Amy Dee Saunders and Stacy Ellison; a grandson, Chad Thomas; and two great- grandchildren, Nicolle L'Nae Springer and Chandler Ellison. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St. Mrs. Barnes was born July 5, 1922, in West Fork, Ark., to Garland Henry and Sylvia Rieff. During her early childhood, the family moved from Arkansas to Texas. She attended school in Cotton Center. She met George Stewart Barnes in Hale Center in 1944, who was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. She and George married on Jan. 2, 1944, and they were married for more than 63 years. Their son Richard was born to them on Nov. 8, 1946. Mrs. Barnes' life consisted of faithfully serving in her church and lovingly caring for her family and friends. She never met a stranger and greeted others with a warm smile and handshake. She insisted on making you feel at home wherever you were. She wrote that she wanted to be remembered "for my smile and my love for other people." She was referred to as "Nana" by her grandchildren, and "Nana" would not hesitate to put her family first and her needs second in order to make others feel comfortable. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; a brother; and three brothers-in-law. Survivors include her husband; a son, Richard Barnes and wife Karen of Canyon; a brother, Henry Rieff of Cotton Center; four sisters, Ruby Teeter of Little Rock, Ark., Naomi Weathers and Edith Sims, both of Plainview, and Mildred Hammit of Hale Center; four grandchildren, Richard Barnes and wife Tousha of Tulia, Brenda Key and husband Kenny of Round Rock and Kim McDaniel and husband Roderick and Chad Farmer and fiancée Hope Lea, all of Amarillo; five great- grandchildren, Kylie and Major Key of Round Rock and Ashley Farmer, Zana and Whitney Steele, all of Amarillo; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she greatly treasured. Private family burial in Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. McGill was born May 26, 1928, in Ardmore, Okla., to William Curtis McGill and Ethel Roberta McGill. He married Dorothy Baird on Nov. 3, 1945, in Wheeler. He was a member of the city council for 28 years, the volunteer fire department for 15 years and the Rodeo Association. He prided himself in raising his cattle the last few years of his life, loved to dance and was a doting Papa to his seven grandchildren. The family would like to say a special thanks to his dear friends who helped him during his illness. McBrayer, M.D., 69, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, in Amarillo. A memorial Mass of celebration will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. John Valdez officiating. Arrangements are by Hereford Heritage Funeral Home. Duffy Ervin McBrayer was born Nov. 20, 1937, in Fort Worth to Duffy Ervin McBrayer and Martha Francis McBrayer. On Easter 1976, he married his sweetheart and bride of 30 years, Claudia Marion Green McBrayer and enjoyed a lifetime of pleasures and traveling together. He was a graduate of Texas Christian University on a science scholarship. He studied for two years at the Heart Research Institute in New York before attending medical school at Southwestern in Dallas. Duffy completed his internship and residency before joining the U.S. Coast Guard, where he served as a lieutenant on the Cutter Mackinac. Dr. Duffy McBrayer moved to Hereford in 1968 and established his medical practice. During his years in practice, he served as the chief of staff at the Hereford Regional Medical Center for many years. He served as warden and lay minister at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hereford, as president of the Hereford Community Concert Association and was on the opera board of Amarillo. Duffy had a passion for singing. He loved to sing opera. A retired Hereford physician, longtime Hereford civic leader and entrepreneur, Dr. Duffy McBrayer made numerous contributions to the community of Hereford. On Jan. 13, 2005, he was presented by the Chamber of Commerce the prestigious Hereford "Bull Chip" Award and in February 2006 was honored as the Hereford Lions Club's "Citizen of the Year for 2005." Dr. Duffy was an entrepreneur in many ways. Most recently, he led an all-out effort as chairman of the steering committee to locate a branch campus of the Amarillo College in Hereford. The campus has grown such that it surpassed all expectations of both Dr. Duffy and Amarillo College. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lance of Lubbock and Jeff of Albuquerque, N.M.; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sunray Baptist Church with the Rev. Philip Hilton, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery with flag detail by American Legion Post 224 of Dumas. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Rousser was born Jan. 16, 1921, in Kress to George Frederick Rousser and Edna Frances Myers Rousser. He served in the Army during World War II from 1942 until 1945 in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe and received several commendation medals. On Jan. 8, 1950, he married Mary Frances Chandler in Clovis, N.M. He had been a Sunray resident since 1955, serving on the Sunray Fire Department for 25 years and as fire chief for two terms. He retired from the Sunray Co-Op in 1983 after working 15 years as fuel manager. He was a member of Sunray Baptist Church He was preceded in death by an infant son, and a great-grandson, Conner Mason. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Judy Mason of Sunray; a son, Doug Rousser of Fritch; two sisters, Ramona Mallow of Plainview and Marguarite Bowman of Redondo Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren, Robby Mason, Todd Mason and wife Denise and Amber Mason; and two great-grandchildren, Cole Mason and Kamryn Mason. Dr. Moore was born Nov. 9, 1919, in Gorgas, Ala. He graduated from Baylor University and the University of Louisville Medical College. He served in the U.S. Army as a medical officer from April 1946 to February 1948. Dr. Moore moved to Canyon in 1951 to begin a medical practice and continued until his retirement in 1991. Dr. Moore was very involved in the community; he served on the Canyon ISD Board of Trustees for nine years, also serving as president, helped found the Babe Ruth League baseball program, was a member of the Rotary Club of Canyon and served as the music leader for years, served on the WT Foundation Board and the Board of Development at Baylor University. He was a very active member at First United Methodist Church of Canyon and served on the finance committee, the building committee and sang in the choir. Dr. Moore provided scholarships to both WTAMU and Baylor University. He was awarded "Citizen of the Decade" by the Canyon Chamber of Commerce for the 1970s. Dr. Moore was the medical director of the Care Unit, a drug and alcohol rehab center at Palo Duro Hospital. At his retirement, he auditioned and was accepted to play in the WTAMU Symphonic Band. His band, the Fabulous Five, entertained throughout the Panhandle for years and raised numerous funds for the band scholarship at WT. Dr. Moore was a loving father, grandfather, friend and upstanding citizen of Canyon. He was preceded in death by a brother, Weston Moore; his father, George Dudley Moore; and his mother, Evelyn Leisk Moore. Dr. Moore was a devoted husband to his wife, Lillis, and a loving father to their eight children: Skip and Jamie Moore and Bea and Wink Clark of Canyon, Joe and Dema Moore of Waco, Gary and Paula Moore of Amarillo, Richard and Angel Thompson of Rockwall, Bill and Elaine Moore of Sugarland, Anna Bland and Scott Aston of Dallas, Eloise and Steven Kissner of Lewisville; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
