Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Faye Roberts, pastor of River Road Fellowship, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Bates was born Nov. 21, 1935, in Amarillo to Ernest and Marie Bates. He married Lillian Light on Nov. 24, 1954, in Clayton, N.M. He loved to hunt and fish and was an avid member of the NRA. Wayne and his family had lived in Alaska for more than 20 years, where he had worked as an air traffic controller. He was a veteran in the U.S. Navy and a member of Cliffside Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lee Bates and wife Michele, and Dewayne Bates and wife Andrea, all of Amarillo; a brother, Kenneth Bates and wife Madeline of Amarillo; and six grandchildren, Jessica, Brandi, Lilly, Ashley, Jarryd and Frankie. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum with the Rev. Roy Wheeler, pastor emeritus of Hillside Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. LeGate was born Aug. 21, 1923, in Electra to John and Daisy Beasley. She married Wayne LeGate on Feb. 22, 1942, in Wichita Falls. They moved to Amarillo in 1942. She was a member of Hillside Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 5, 1974; her parents; two sisters; and two brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Mohr and husband Ron of Denver; a son, Terry LeGate and fiancee Lynn of Panhandle; a sister, Theresa Bianco of Cleveland; four grandchildren, Frank Hembree and wife Crystal, and Terry W. LeGate Jr. and wife Jennifer, all of Amarillo, Brandi Beagle and husband Clayton of Perryton, and Matt Hembree and wife Tammy of Belton; and seven great-grandchildren. "Dick" Shelley, 78, of Amarillo died Friday, Jan. 26, 2007. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive. Military burial rites will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Mr. Shelley was born Nov. 10, 1928, in Guthrie Center, Iowa, to Emerson Lyle Shelley and Minnie O'Brien Shelley. He grew up in Guthrie Center and also lived in California. He graduated from high school in Sacramento and joined the Air Force in 1948. Dick was stationed in many places around the world throughout his long and decorated military career including Korea, Vietnam, Spain, Morocco and Roswell, N.M. He was an E.O.D. Specialist and received a meritorious recognition from J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI for his assistance in a dangerous disarmament mission in the early 1960s. He married Lovetta Manning in Roswell in 1951. After retiring from the Air Force in 1972, Mr. Shelley earned an associate's degree in electronics from Amarillo College and owned and operated his own G.E. television dealership and repair shop for 15 years. He later worked for the Texas Department of Labor for three years. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather and was respected by all who knew him. He coached Little League baseball for 12 years. Dick loved all sports, especially baseball and the San Francisco Giants. He enjoyed playing pinochle and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kathy Spencer; and a brother, Joe Shelley. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dana Shelley of Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter, Terrie Blasi and husband James of Wichita Falls; a son-in-law, Ken Spencer of Amarillo; and six grandchildren, Chris Cates and husband Billy, and Whitney Spencer, all of Amarillo, Morgan Shelley and Jordan Shelley, both of Tulsa, and Tarah Blasi and Shanen Blasi, both of Wichita Falls. Mr. Counts was born March 4, 1978, in Borger. He was a registered nurse. She worked for the federal government for a number of years, her last job being reports editor at the Bureau of Reclamation. She married Horace Randall Smith Jr. on Feb. 14, 1951. He preceded her in death in 1992. Mr. and Mrs. Smith spent a number of years overseas, traveling to Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Survivors include two sons, Horace R. Smith III and wife Merrie of Austin and their children, David, Dhal and Elaine, and Robert F. Smith and wife Wendy of Dallas and their children, Brendan, Ryan and Kaitlyn; two daughters, Shelley I. Mrs. Wooten was born Oct. 30, 1945, in Clovis, N.M., to Verl and Leona Lambert. She was a homemaker and loved her grandchildren more than anything. Mr. Riggan was very active in First Nazarene Church and was the former music director. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany. He was a faithful employee of the Borger News Herald from 1957 until 1992 in many different positions. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; two sons, Roger Riggan of Abilene and Rodney Riggan of Lubbock; two daughters, Helen Riggan and Darlene Johnston, both of Fritch; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
